M Ave I sat in the new caprice and the new Ford. I have to say the new Ford I thought had a lot of room. The chevy I was not really a fan of for a number of reasons. Right now anything has to be better then driving the Impala which is really the only vehicle left down in the city. Very few Vics left in some PCTs. I miss the vic already only because we have only 1 left where I am.

Michigan Highway Patrol did test the new cars in September 2010. http://www.allpar.com/squads/police-cars/MSP-cars-2011.html

Well reading your posts just pissed me off. I have a lot of pride in being a cop and I enjoy what i do. Maybe the area I work in sucks but I have fun. To say I as a NY cop or any of us cops for that matter don't take pride in our sector or post or we are not out their making arrest or working...You are way off base and seriously doubt you have any evidence to support your claim. I know plenty of us who take pride in our sectors and cops will tell you we don't like another sector picking up our jobs unless they absolutely have to. That's our sector and we will handle. Heavy job comes in (assault, robbery etc..) balls to the wall responding. Sometimes we get into back log because some guys are covering multiple sectors at a time and there are 3 cars out there for 7,8 or more sectors and we are holding jobs BECAUSE WE ARE THAT BUSY!! We don't take pride? Yeah ok. You worked as a dispatcher? I have a lot of respect for dispatchers but you are not out on the street with us. Your dad was a cop in a busy area? Good for him then he knows the job...NOT YOU! Your worked in a police supply store so you met and talked with cops. I was friends with lot of cops before I got on the job and thought I understood it. WRONG! You don't know what its like or how it feels just because you are friends with or hangout with a cop. Until you are out there on the street doing what needs to be done you don't have a clue. Never will. If I am wrong or off base someone tell me

Can't argue with you there

How about this police involved shooting in the Bronx last year. Perp pulled a gun on cops while they were conducting a vertical (pointed the gun at the cops head) The partner then pulled his gun shot the perp. The perp lived and the case was later DP'd....For those of you who don't know just about every case is DP'd (decline prosecution) in the Bronx. The case was DP'd because the ADA said the cops basically F%@ked up the evidence of securing the gun. The guy was out 2 days later and has numerous priors. Many, many more cases similar to this 1. Something has to be done. Perps or mutts have no fear because they know nothing will happen to them even if they assault a cop.

3 years here and always keeping my eyes and ears open and mouth shut. I am always thinking tactics.

True That!

FACT: some of the MTA employees are perps. This is not the first, nor will it be the last time you see something like this. Bus drivers are constantly running reds and almost causing accidents

Most transfers are on the list and when their number is called well lucky them they already have the training.

Team Work! and watch out for each other from day 1! If someone needs something one day whether its polish for shoes or some other BS thing help that person out! That's what this job is all about getting each others back! Don't be that person who only looks out for you and doesn't care about the person next to you, because it will be a long difficult road for you!

I believe it depends on how many towns/cities hire new PO's and what they have numbers wise

The new Fords the NYPD has are not the P.I. they are the Focus, another brilliant idea to try out hybrids for patrol work. The car is not made for police work nor are the Nissan Altimas and the room in the inside and the shifter on the floor doesn't work for a police vehicle. Its one thing for school safety or traffic to use them its another for NYPD patrol work. The new PI haven't even been produced yet, only a few models for shows.

I love the Ford over the Chevy any day of the week. If my PCT has the Vic available I am going with it. Chevy has had way too many problems. My unit took delivery of 3 new Impalas in April and all of them have been back to Chevy for work. Body can't take the beating and wear and tear it seems. Ford is a beast! Love how it drives and more room I think. I was impressed with the new Ford PI. I had the chance to take a look at one.

Read the book a "1000 years for Revenge" A great read and will tell you a lot about the life of Ronnie Bucca and what he knew about terrorism and Al.Qaeda. Ronnie was an expert, was probably the smartest guy ever to be in the FDNY and the FBI and JTTF should have listened to him. A great Book

And for your viewing pleasure. This is the shootout that occurred on the freeway on July 18.

M' Ave I couldn't have said it better! Scott loved the fire service and I believe in my heart that in his future he would have been a great leader in the FDNY

You know what bothers me about this website sometimes and other forums....The person started this thread to basically ask what people thoughts were about the demo day and the equipment, not why does this towing company have red and blue and these types of lights. I wrote a response about the new police cars hoping to see what others thoughts were who were there and looked at them, since i only spoke to a handful of people about it. I don't think the person who started this topic meant for this huge discussion on tow trucks and if they can have this or that on their truck. This went way off topic and frankly in regards to some of these post it seems childish. i was hoping to get more opinions and I am disappointed that a good intelligent convo never came to be.

I went down to see the new police vehicles and I have to say I will give Ford a lot of credit they did it right and speaking to other cops briefly they seem to agree. The ford is obviously a whole new design which I think it was time for. The vehicle has a lot of room in the inside, wider foot space, head room and the seats are wider. What I was impressed with was with the way they had the computer set up is that if you have a partner sitting in the passenger side there is still a lot of leg space for that cop and the stand will not tough you. I have always liked the crown vic and speaking to the reps from Ford they were aware they had a great car in the crown vic but they listen to cops in the redesign and and improvements. I believe this will also be AWD? maybe someone can clear that up. The Chevy I give them a D+ on this and here is why: There really is no new design here. Basically chevy took the Malibu front end and the Impala rear end and put them together. sure maybe it has wider seats for your gun belt and little more leg room but there were other negatives. The shifter was on the floor in front of the center console, I hope this was something only on the demo vehicle and not something they are going to stay with. That can be very uncomfortable putting the car into drive quickly or from drive to reverse. Then the placement of the police radio in front of the floor shift. The whole set up is not police friendly. I am very disappointed with Chevy and maybe this explains why they are behind ford and recovering from chapter 11. Really seems very little thought went into the caprice. They need to get back to what they had in the '80's and 90's. Ford: B+ based on design in and out. Can't give it an "A" because didn't get to drive it. Chevy: D+ really no thought and consideration for police work. An Impala with new front design. On another thought Yonkers has some nice equipment and it was nice to finally see it up close.

I don't share many things on this site but I just happen to grab a few shots of the Working fire on Alexander Ave between 140 street and 139 street. 1 block away from the 40 PCT station house. If anyone has more details please feel free to post. I was told this was a 3 story brownstone vacant and in addition this came over as a stove fire. Some stove fire. Engine 60,83,Squad 41, TL 17, Ladder 29. I believe those were the first due.

JBE I was at Metro Tech a few weeks for the NYPD, they make us go to the training there and see how they operate and sit with the call takers and dispatch. When i was sitting with the call taker listening to the calls 1 was for a (10-59) NYPD code for fire. Person was calling from Queens stating they saw a fire in a backyard, but they didn't know the exact address only the street. The NYPD call taker is sitting there asking a lot of questions before she even sends it to the FD side. I would have to say it was a good 1.5-2min on the phone with the person, who by the way was out of breath and kept saying he saw fire. She is asking whats the address, the cross street and other important info. Now I am not saying this call taker did anything wrong but she even admitted she was not use to taking calls for FD jobs and said it should be sent directly to them. Now she takes the call and info then sends it to the FD and on top of that she has to go get her supervisor who has to rewind the tape and listen to the call over again. Now I never saw the old system first hand but from what you describe it was a great system in place. I had heard the horror stories by you and some other FF I know in the bronx who said the new system is a disaster and I saw it firsthand. I don't know what happened with the rest of this job and how it turned out (Wednesday afternoon a few weeks ago) but I hope nothing serious. You are right about 1 thing a lot of time is wasted and PD could be on the phone a long time getting info, if its even correct....but that's a whole other story for another day. So now I guess it has to be 4-5 min before the FD is even dispatched?
