Yes I know I am getting off track what I am trying to say is ,why buy a very expensive tower ladder when you cannot use it to its full potential, for example if you district is a small 1or 2 story ranch houses with no hydrants how are you going to supply an elevated master stream (min of 350GPM) YES all Depts need an aerial device but it does not have to be the soup to nuts tower ladder. Question ? Do any Depts outside of the larger cities have a rear mount aerial. This is my last post on this subject Sorry to get off topic

What I am saying is if my fire respose area was made up of 98% 1 or 2 story buildings I would want money spent on Tankers or engines that could delivery water faster on the fire. Remember you are talking to firefighters on this board not JOE public that you are making a presentation to about buying a new tower ladder. I know if I worked or volenteered in a small town I would better serve the public with a new tanker then a new tower ladder Just my 2cents

1 thing i see alot of is all these small towns and villages buying 100ft tower ladders when the tallest building in the district is 3 stories at best, very few have aerial ladders Why is this?

All should look at these photo's I would say this is a 1-2 min time frame for all those who had never been above a fire take a good look and remember how fast things can go bad. 2nd means of escape, 1st hoseline to seat of fire or protecting the interor stairs

I know the paid depts in Westchester have a no beard clean shave policy, I have seen other vol. depts with members that look like members of ZZ Top

I think the home video shows a guy trying to get the driver to move the rig because its parked on a line I have seen this happen more then once and sometimes the results are very bad. As for the guy from Kentland screaming and yelling sure it looks bad to us because we are looking at it on video. I was driving in Oct at a job when a truck pulled up on my 2 supply lines I had to do alot of yelling to find the driver to move the rig. Remember this happened (or seems to) at the onset of this job. I am not here to bash them lets all learn from this (the parking on lines issue) and when you are driving and you pull upto a working job don't have tunnel vision see the big picture. Just my 2cents PS I am not a fan of Kentland I think the music video is something that looks like a bad movie trailer

The problem with critique on this board is you do not know where it is coming from, people with the most to say ( about fireground ops) are not even firefighters, I would not comment on a police incident I'm a firefighter and know nothing of there SOP's. What I am trying to say is what might look like a bad choice by a member or chief might have been in the best intrest of safety or a deparments SOP's. Don't bash, fill out your profiles and don't hide behide your computer talk like we were all sitting face to face in the same room

Since 1999, the number of volunteer firefighters in the state has dropped from about 135,000 to 100,000, according to the Firemen's Association. In the last decade, the number of volunteer emergency-medical technicians has plummeted from 70,000 to about 40,000. Why train them in 24years they will be gone

If the fire is not out in 20 min the building is going to be lost a fast team should be established 1st and foremost it seems that after 20 min no one should be in the building

Firehouse.com Home > News Headlines Ban on Florida Women Firefighters in Burning Buildings is Rescinded Updated: 09-23-2005 11:29:29 AM E-MAIL THIS STORY PRINT THIS STORY ASSOCIATED PRESS CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) -- A fire chief has rescinded an order that temporarily prohibited female firefighters from entering burning buildings because male colleagues allegedly threatened not to protect them. City officials said the women refused to cooperate with investigators. ''Our preliminary investigation has indicated that there is no immediate threat at this time,'' according to a written statement by city spokeswoman Joelle Wiley Castelli. Clearwater Fire & Rescue Chief Jamie D. Geer issued the directive Saturday after learning that the safety of some of the city's nine female firefighters had been threatened because they talked about quitting the local firefighters' union. Mayor Frank Hibbard said at least two female firefighters claimed to have been told that the next fire they fight could be their last, but the women refused to identify who made the threat. ''We can't follow up on it if they aren't willing to follow through and testify,'' Hibbard said. Geer did not immediately return a message left early Thursday
