  14. I agree with everything Jack said, I do contracting work for several MCd's in westchester/Rockland all free standing buildings are light weight construction (truss) most have a void space between new drop ceiling and old sheetrock ceiling. Mcdonalds goes through many changes over the years as the upgrade(ex new registers to take credit cards, new coffee machines) all these changes require plumbing and electrical work, most of this is run through the void space in the ceilings all MCD's are built on slabs(free standing) MCD's express can be put in a strip mall or taxpayer. If its on fire evacuate and go devensive

  16. A short rundown of what I seen going on, Large volume of smoke seen from Radford and South Broadway in route, 74 at location smoke from rear coming over top of building and exp 2,4 alleyways.(this was the rear porches burning but did not know this right away)All 4 members of 74 where grabbed by civilians as we were getting off the rig screaming, pointing giving apt #'s ect. approx 10 people self evacuating on both fire escapes.(Both drop ladders were already down) older handicapped women was removed from fire escape by 71. 74 to what was given as fire apt 2S for primary.303(hydrant on Morris) with line to 2nd fl, 304(Hydrant on Elliot) line to 3rd fl 306 had a line in the building 308 to exposure. 71 removing people from fire escape and vertical ventlation. Large volume of fire on 2nd,3rd and 4th fl. from what I could see rear porches burned basement to roof fire was pushed in from the rear porches by wind hallway on 2nd fl had fire from back to front of building. multipy alarms called minutes after dispatch Defensive operations set up after building searched approx 15-20min? Thank God there were no serious injuires and that this happened in the middle of the day 4:30am could have been a nightmare

  19. Long island is known for the high class rigs and firehouses as a article in newsweek pointed out a few years ago. You can buy a rig, a rig with bells and whistles or you can buy the LI model. I am quoting the article now "they have over 400 heavey rescues on long island compared to 5 in the FDNY. But we all know you need a big new rig for the parade Sorry wrong thread
  20. another view of this job. looks like they had plenty of manpower http://www.firesceneaudio.com/2010/01/firefighter-mayday-randolph-nj.html I watched the other video and I see lines being directed into window 1 seems to by opposite of where the FF bailed out
  21. Here is the link for all the NIOSH reports, I agree this should be the #1 topic on this site http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/fire/
  22. GOOD STOP?? The roof is burned off the house, Fire burns up it had nothing else to burn. With a adequet response on the initial alarm this fire may have been stopped. i know all depts lose buildings but 10min is a big head start
  23. Thicker skin is a must, treat conversations as if you were face to face ( Put your real name in your profile) No censorship My 2 cents
  24. A judgement like this will fuel racisim within the fire dept. When someone feels you did not earn your way onto the fire dept a natural hatred will develope, this applies to all races. I belive the vulcans want to create a hostile work enviorment and will cry racism forever no matter what they get, without the cry of racism their organization has no meaning to exist, it dosent matter what color your skin if you earn the job and work hard you will be respected as a FIREFIGHTER
  25. Do you have chains for the rigs (on the tires). If so does the chief have members put them on if bad weather is expected? Also I live on the croton falls Mahopac boader and what we had that day was a light dusting of wet snow not a ice storm. We did have a ice storm up this way Dec 13th 2009 that closed many roads and caused many accidents this was not even close to that
