No plans as of yet but I am sure we will. Went down again today and it is at the 90% stage. Looks pretty darn good. I will be forwarding the newest pics to Bravo for posting tomorrow after I sort them out. I heard one of your trucks just came back from Long Island getting some repairs done--one of the Mack's? I thought you only had one left (the tanker) or did you keep 2-1?
-
I also heard from a Trooper they will be going back to B&W.
-
It didn't sound like the Allison auto-which is the true heavy/extreme duty. It is a sweet truck though--might just have to get us one very similar to it
-
Okay-since we don't have the luxery-all we do is draft--not to get off topic but 5" or 6" reall depends on your pump size and what you spec. Our source truck has 6"--60' of it to be exact. It has a 1750gpm pump-which when set up eith 2 inlets used--can easily exceed it--AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE DISCHARGES. It also carries 3,600 feet of 5" LDH. We need to get the water from the source to the scene as fast and easily as possible. All of our other trucks have 1,000 gpm pumps with 5" suction. 5" Supply line has less friction loss for one thing and obviously higher flow capacity. Like the golden rule--big fire--big hose.
-
Well you may be right--it does have the big block 8.1 with the normal tranny--doesn't have the Allison auto. On the other hand it is a Chevy not a Ford so it will be just fine!!!
-
Just to add to this--If I am correct--Natural PBI is tan in color. Black--altohough is "traditional"--can hide imperfections and/or damage . Also since the black is not natural--it must be dyed--which in turn raises the price.

I have to agree with the Suburban fans. Got to be a 2500 though. It is a truck not a car so I don't want to hear --it rides to rough. The Tahoe is nice but you do miss the space going from a Suburban to a Tahoe. The Ford line--doesn't seem to fit just right as a Chief's vehicle. The Expedition seems to have a lot of wasted space and forget the Exploder--way to small. I for one am not a hugh fan of a pick-up. 1 advantage of pick-up's (right now anyway) is that you can get them in diesel--suv's you can't. I suppose if you set a truck up right it does have other advantages--but with out a slide out bed tray--it is a real pain in the rear to get your stuff out of the back!!! So for my vote--I will go with the Suburban/Yukon XL 2500-6.0 V8--maybe even up to the 8.1 to get the Allison Transmission, Victory red(available as a custom paint option) with just enough gold leaf and some creative white reflective striping--and of course--Safety Signal Industries will have full creative control over the Whelen warning package
-
EJS-If I am not mistaken the MDU's as they are called here are similar if not identical to the 2 un marked trailers out back at the T.O.P.S. building. They carry all that. The white Ford Pick-Up is there to tow them.

That is a damn good question

Let me first apologize for maybe mis statng my intentions. I did how ever--im all caps. say that -"I AM NOT SAYING ALL"-meaning career or volunteer. Yes I agree -minimum training standards should be equal--no doubt. There are quite a number of vol. members that have more than the career minimum hours of training. I have to somewhat disagree with some of your statements about the money though. Full benefits are provided to career FF's--including a pension. LOSAP provides a pension-no dental, medical or anything. In addition to salary that is. Now as far as vehicles-Chief's vehicles-paid dept's have them too. Apparatus-gold leaf vs decals--well the cheesy gold leaf now is essentially cheap gold leaf looking stickers. Yes I will agree there are dept's that over due it with B.S. stuff to make it a show piece--a parade rig--which is a bunch of crap. It is still a fire truck--first and foremost. Screw the chrome--don't need it. Paid dept's have nice trucks too. I understand what you are saying about "disabled" members on the roster. I am definately not in favor of that. You must be able to do the job or at least be at the scene and assist with the operations. . You had valid points I apologize if I offended you. Honestly though--can you really compare the cost of fully staffing a career dept vs. a volunteer dept with a few "perks"? As I said before--we need career FF's--more in some area's than others. I am not pro anyone. We all have a job to do--and like it was stated earlier--fire does not care if you are career or not

We just went through a similar design--well for the last 2 years. We need a rig as short as possible--we came in a foot or so longer than the engine it is replaceing--yet it is still 5' shorter than the tanker. We went with a 1,000 tank (we need it) but not a "T" tank--we went up with it so we could have full height, full depth compartments. We gained alot of space compartment wise. We have a 6 member cab also. We did away with 1 cross lay (have 2 still) and moved it to the side step well, hydr. ladder rack(keeps it up and out of the way. The design for the truck is a pumper/rescue. It carries a set of Holmatro rescue tools, air bags, as well as being first due on the "B" side of town. We put alot of time and planning into this rig--and with any luck--we will see our hard work sitting in our garage early in April.

I have to agree with the positives in this case. I think the savings here are still far below what a fully paid dept would be--even below paid chauffers(so to speak). I also agree with having requirements--more so than the average LOSAP requirements--face it we all have the same members that show up for the LOSAP requirements and very little other than that. I think it is an outstanding idea--whatever his motivation is. We are not paid, career, whatever--we are volunteer's--many of whom are as well as or more trained than a good percentage of career FF's. I AM NOT SAYING ALL-There is definately a need for career FF's in certain areas. As long as there is a good tax base that can support it. For the most part--most towns can not. We need the volunteers!!! =D>

Another KME for Brewster?????

The only thing we have gain up to this point is some new dispatchers and a new dispatch center. The original plan was for the new center to handle fire and ems and let the appropriate police agency tend to their non fire and ems calls. This way we would have dedicated fire/ems/EMD dispatchers. Right now they still are tied up with some police functions and due to being understaffed as it is have to split their time between. Yes there are no longer cops dispatching but the new staff is being overburdened already. I agree with one answering point--BUT if it is not a situation requiring fire or ems--transfer to the poilce agency. Let the dispatchers have the time to contend with the fire and ems side. Alot of them are brand new and still learning--(doing great so far I might add) but the fact still remains--they are understaffed and over burdened.

Saw it at the factory today-- quite the truck so far. Estimated compleation is 3-4 weeks. I have some pics I will be forwarding to Mr. Bravo for him to post if he chooses. Our rig is sitting right in front of Briarcliff's lnew ladder I believe(well thats what I was told by the employee's in the shop anyway)
-
Putnam Valley will be there also--Believe we are staying at our station 3 up there in Lake George (a.k.a. the Best Western)
-
How about Carmel's old ladder--12-5-1 1964 Oren I believe--now painted red and in Service as 13-5-1 serving the Phillipstown Dept's
-
Okay here is the quick version-the new rig will be replacing the current 24-2-1 (1988 Pierce Lance 1000/1000 pumper) physically that is. As of now the plan is to get rid of the current 24-2-2(1985 Pierce Arrow 1000/1000 pumper) and reassign the 1988. As for the specs--How detailed do ya want? The basics--KME Excel X-MFD 6 Person cab. Overall length aprox 32', Height aprox. 10'3", Detroit Series 60 500hp / Allison 4000 EVS 5 speed auto. 1,000 gpm Waterous single stage pump. Should have a nice Whelen warning package+ the trusty ol "Q", 8k Hyd. generator, light tower, Holmatro rescue tools. It will serve as a pumper/rescue so the body will resemble more of a rescue--full height, fell depth compartments with roll up doors. It will not have the traditional "T" tank more of a rectangle to gain the full depth of the compartments all the way up. Warn portable winch, pull out tool boards. What else to add--well--if ya want more specific's just ask, should have some pics after the factory visit tomorrow!! CYA

We go to parade's--those who want to. We still have ample manpower as well as deputy chief's to cover the town. As far as apparatus--that's where the chief should use his/her head. You never bring all of one piece (unless you have more than that. We have 3 pumpers (2 attack,1 source). The attacks truck don't go (not that they are really parade able so to speak but we do have 2 tankers--we would never bring both--nor would we bring both pieces of apparatus carring our Jaws. It all comes down to planning and using your head. As for setting up and cleaning your apparatus--never forget what it is--a fire truck. First and foremost. Clean it but don't kill yourselves--that takes away from the "fun" of parades

Once again--I guess no one here listens to the site administrator or others that have chimed in. Stop the bashing and have civil orderly ADULT conversations. A person has a right to their opinion agree or not--whatever--don't bash them or this site!! CAn we please get back to the TOPIC (not one particular incident) PLEASE!!!

Sad but true--then can however be fined and even shut down though

I believe West Harrison USE TO use 453 as their repeater but has changed it. PL codes are very important--pagers are not capable of them yet unfortunately. Those other agencies may be licensed for those freq's but they may be exceeding their licensed wattage output. Do a search for the freq--you will be surprised at the results
-
In order to find the cause you need to confirm which freq tou are picking it up on for one thing--if it is on a freq that uses PL codes--make sure your radio is not in monitor mode. It may take a while but before you go and complain to the FCC you have to have all your ducks in line so to speak.

Well said ALS

do ya know which 453 channel it is?
