  1. Any one know the details on the parade tomorrow? Aside from tomorrow at 1300--like the route and # of attending companies?
  2. We have a "bar" in the members room--no alcohol though-in the ball room we also have a bar--all the booze is locked up--only comes out at social functions--friendship night etc. We do have beer in the fridge for the members but only officers and a few others have the key. I am not all thathappy with that--after a run have a beer--what if we get another one? It has changed from a few years ago though. We used to go through alot of beer--now it is very little--alot more soda and water. Slowly we are going to a "dry" fire house. But the rule still remains the same--been drinking--don't even show up for the call!!!
  3. says the posting is closed
  4. Thought this might make a decent discussion--haven't seen it in a while. What type--Make, Model, pressure, bottle size, accessories do we all use for SCBA? Anyone have any experiance with the new Scott NXG2?
  5. Gotta try sauerkraut pizza--gotta have it cold though. Interasting for sure. How about shrimp scampi pizza--ya might need some speedy dry to sop up the grease but if properly prepared--outstanding
  6. We use Magellan's--have no problems yet.
  7. Can't you rent them in the Annsville circle?? By the old SP barracks
  8. Ok--I am a bit on the light side here--define Hijacker!!!
  9. Beautiful day for a parade--if ya like the heat!! Had a blast--thanks to Croton for hosting us!!
  10. The wheels on the fly car go round and round, round and round--then fall off LOL Glad to see ya back!!!!
  11. Then there are super whackers that have 3 sets--1 for each vehicle-saves having to switch it around from car to car--got alot of use out of the "work" setprobably been used for more buff jobs than anything else!!! The decision is a tough one though for those who don't have the luxery. I don't know how confident I would be letting my gear hang in the bay with all the people that filter through there. Might be missing a few items--been there too!!!

  13. From a formerly 90% Pierce dept--they are not what they used to be. The quality is still outstanding--the craftsmenship is not what it was. Want cheap--go with KME--thats cheap. They are really hot right now--the question is how for how long and how will they all hold up???Don't know if it would last in the city either
  14. Best Firematic Color Guard--Putnam Valley Best Overall Apparatus--Putnam Valley Best Non Reg--Continental Village (Way to go!!!) Best Overall--Ossining Best Dress--Mahopac Best Musical--T-Town VFW?? Best Chief's Car--Lake Mohegan Did I miss any???
  15. I haven't heard it in a week or so since they shut the link off.
  16. Wasn't it the West Harrison repeater link--453.000 to 46.26 causing this?
  17. If any company should be the test--it is definately Rescue 1!!! They will for sure put it to the test
  18. We in the Valley are going to Montrose--hopefully next year we can do both!!!
  19. We purchased 2 Paratech set ups last year--outstanding--if like ALS had mentioned--you use cribbing as a back up and you train on them-there are quite a few different ways to use them. We have them in a rig out of each station-we do have the parkway running through which usually keeps us busy but it has been quiet for a while.
  20. Really not all that hard to program the radio's with the proper ID--portables do need to be re done as they are passed around however. The question I have is--which Identifier's do you pick up? Motorola MDC 1200, The Kenwood ID, or the "chip" ID NYCOMCO put in all the Kenwood radio's?
  21. According to Motorola the 2's had a sensitivity of around 5, the 3 &4's were around a 6 or 7, and the 5's are supposed to be in the 3-4 range--we can only wait and see. The antenna size and location in the pager has been changed also. They are recommending the stored voice option as well--not too expensive and you can always turn it off if ya don't like it. It actually annunciates the selected position of the function switch. Wait and see!!! Aproximate ship dates when ordered with the charger amp are mid-late June.
  22. Forgot 1 thing in my last post Chrome and Wax don't put the fire out or rescue the trapped victim. We do--the firefighters--with our functional (yet not always pretty) apparatus. I think we should ALL agree on this.
  23. Maybe someday they will actually be able to "read" the radio ID put out the each unit--technology is great--when it works!!! And no I am not picking on them--great bunch up there!! I do however get frustrated with the --"Last Unit Calling Putnam 9-1-1"? This would also help id the individuals improperly using the radio and possible the unit with the "open mic."
  24. I must vent a bit here--both sides have their point on this matter. Even though apparatus is very impressive and should be well kept--they are still a functional piece of firefighting apparatus. Yes a big RED fire truck LOOKS great--all for it--but when it starts to effect your response order etc--it becomes a problem--and this does happen-Ya know what--trucks get dirty driving to a parade too. To go and clean every piece of the chassis is just plain out insane--IT IS A FIRE TRUCK--A WORKING MACHINE!!! Lets spend more money on chrome and diamond plate or stainless--because it looks better?!? Functionality before appearance it a must--not to mention the additional expense to the taxpayers--TO LOOK NICE. On the other side of things--cleaning a rig takes alot of time--lots--time that we could all be spending on training etc--not to mention time with your family. A "dirty" rig is not the image you want either. Wash it, tidy it up, and go. ALS is right--trophies are good for--collecting dust--got a storage room full of them--without sacrificing an arm or leg to clean our trucks. I am proud however of our trucks and how they have served us(for the most part). Enough rambling--simply stated--some dept's take the whole parade thing way to serious. Have fun--it is our time to show off a bit!!! And besides--there are times when things do seem to be kinda pre determined--not always and not proven--just seems like it at times.
