  1. Engine 6 (26) was originally at station 6 North Ave and Mill Rd. When that station was closed ( with the opening of Station 7 on Stratton Rd ( now station 5), the engine was operated out of I believe Church St then Harrison St. When it was brought downtown it operated as the flying squad. It ran on all box alarms with a driver, officer and 3 men on the back step (literally on the back step). It would be cancelled on almost all box alarms and told to return to quarters as they were not needed. Thus they were dubbed "TR6" (turn around 6). This company was one of the first to be issued S.C.B.A.'s. So when there was a working fire the first due engine would stretch and get water on the fire as best they could until Engine 6 arrived to take over the line and operate with S.C.B.A.'s. For all you firehouse buffs, Station 6 is still in use. Not as a firehouse, but as a private house. The present owner has done everything possible to maintain the look of an active firehouse.
  2. What engine was this????
  3. Is that the Van Plug and Dykers of Bonnie Meadow Rd.??????
  4. The Town of New Rochelle Fire Department and the Village of New Rochelle Fire Department.
  5. Thanks for rubbing it in George...I hope you get sun burned on the top of your head........
  6. There may not be snow as we have seen so far this year, but the storm map show an icy mix for the lower Hudson Valley. AccuWeather goes on to say that we may get rain from the storm. That can cause more of a problem then a foot of snow.
  7. George .... does the Blackberry work at the beach ????
  8. Chief????? Do you know something we don't????
  9. You can read the account of the evacuation of Josephine Harris and her subsequent rescue, along with the members of ladder 6, in the book 'Last Man Down' by Battalion Chief Richard Picciotto.
  10. I knew it had something to do with the dingle arm !!!
  11. Just open up your toy chest and take out your code3 Super Pumper. That should hold you over.
  12. I'll throw my 2 cents in. Looks like a cement injector.
  13. I don't know if those numbers justifies a Command Aid (driver). Looks like you'll be doing your own NIFRS. Oh that's right you turf off your NIFRS to the neighboring department on the duel response calls!!!!! So I guess you'll be able to handle it.
  14. Former New Rochelle Police Officer R.A. Smith now working with the Amtrak Police K-9 unit was featured on ABC news on 12-21-10. http://abcnews.go.co...istmas-12452341
  15. Barry, don't forget about the pipe bomb that was found on the Con Ed switching box on Hall Ave in Larchmont in the late 70's. A phone company repair man found a strange device on the pole when he was trying to make a repair to the service line to the resident across from the pole. The line was damaged when the device was put on the pole. The only thing that kept this pipe bomb from detonating was it was in the low 20's and the 9 volt battery was drained due to the cold. Why was this bomb placed on an utility pole in Larchmont? The pole was IFO Turtle Park in the dead of winter. So when you say any place is not a "high" target area, think again. BTW if anyone here was in the career firefighters academy in Valhalla in the late 80's to the early 90's and took the class the WCPD Bomb Squad gave on what to look for, the pipe that was shown as to what a pipe bomb looks like was the actual device that was at the Larchmont incident. The Det. that gave the class said he used the 9 volt battery in his transistor radio his office for a couple of years after that incident.
  16. Thanks George.
  17. Did the 3 gal knock down any fire when it bleved ???? That would have made for an interesting set of pics.
  18. Are you going out on a tier 1 or tier 2 retirement? I hope Seth was able to give you a 'boost' on your final year average. Thanks for all of your time and involvement.
  19. And believe it or not he wasn't arrested for that fire. It was reported he was caught setting a fire at the Albert Leonard Middle School where many of the H.S. students were sent to finish out the school year. (This info was from blogs about the fire)
  20. No..... It was a school day. I can remember seeing the smoke from my school during gym class.
  21. As you looked at the explosion site, Crabtree was a pile of rubble to the right and Soundview was to the left. They were 2 connected dealerships. Soundview burned and Crebtree blew up.
  22. Did I forget to mention that the basket was set on fire by a troubled student. And that he put the basket on a chair that was on top of a table in the library..........The fire in the basket was real close to the ceiling and the rest is history.
