Go to Magnolia Ave and Grove Ave in Larchmont and you will know at least one quite street with a Bee Line bus stop on it. This street does not have a normal bus stop. For that matter there is not a single street in the Larchmont Manor that has an established Bee Line bus stop on it. The bus stops are for commuters that are going to the train station.
-
The area where the bus was stopped was in a residential neighborhood, not on a main road like the Boston Post Rd. These are areas that typically pick up both commuters and school kids by the Bee Line buses. No it was not a yellow school bus, however the people from the neighborhood know that at anytime an adult or a kid could be running to catch the bus. The runner could come from anywhere, and its' done in ALL CONDITIONS, light, dark, rain, snow etc. Common sense should make a driver go slow around any large vehicle, until you have a clear view in front of the vehicle.

I totally agree. It drives me nuts when people pass stopped buses, especially while talking on their cell phones. I wish I could paint ball them so everyone would know that they are unsafe around our kids!

Report of a second structure fire on 514 Orchard off of Beach. Port Chester units on stand-by in Mamaroneck responding. House had been struck by lighting.

In my last post I forgot to add that the 15 year olds were the drivers, not the passengers.

This isn't the first time that someone under the age of 21 has been involved in a DWI accident in Larchmont. There have been 15 year olds involved in auto accidents and they had better booze in the car then I have in my house. We should not forget those under age youth that don't drive. The 8th grade graduation dance that need an ambulance transport of an intox 14 year old. And the list goes on and on. These incidents have been over the past 10+ years, so it's nothing new in Larchmont. The parents of these misguided youth need to wake up and take charge of these kids. "It's 10 PM do you know where your children are", more parents should have that as their cell phone wall paper. In reference to the 18 year old DWI. Was he coming in from a night of drinking or did he just wake up and had the breakfast of champions?????? And one last question, where are these kids getting the alcohol from? Yes some are just going to daddy's and mommy's liquor cabinet, but others are getting it by other means.

That is the perfect reason why you can never go wrong in throwing up ground ladders. The 3 FF may have got to the roof from another location, but they could not retreat to their access point. Even the MPO of the engine in the picture could have thrown up a 24' ladder prior to the roof giving in. The 3 on the roof seemed to have pre-planed where to go if they had to bail out. They all made an immediate dash for the near parapet.

As I stated earlier, most people in these forums do not know how other departments operate. Nor do they know why these departments are set up the way they are. Yes it would be great to run just like FDNY with 5-6 on an engine and 6 on the truck. And who says that those numbers are the right ones? If more people took the time to learn about how other departments are organized and operates (and I'm not saying to become a buff), I think there would be more respect for the job that other career FF are doing.

Oh the good old 70's. You don't see them like that anymore (and as often).

Good video Ladder 1 venting the roof at a working fire in a 2 1/2 story wood frame in Paterson NJ. They were ordered off the roof by command as heavy fire blew through the vent hole they just cut. http://www.emstube.com/view_video.php?view...ab4c7c7de644d37

PCFD ENG58...I understand your rise in blood pressure. I think most of the guys that are on the job in any one of the departments around here don't fully understand the workings of the other departments. Most career FF think they know how it is in other departments, but they don't. Some quotes today were 'how does NRFD do it', 'what is going on in the vern', 'regionalization is the answer'. Until everyone understands how every department operates and the particular problems, hazards, demographics, etc, a department faces, you will get these comments. If every one will keep an open mind and be willing to see the other side, and they just maybe might learn something. Capt Nechis has been a very valuable resource in getting the right info out in these forums. I think he has educated many of us as to how things are now and where they can be 1 year, 5 years and 10 years from now. Don't be mad, they know not what they say......

Looks like the end of the rainbow was somewhere around Mt. Vernon. Did anyone from Mt. Vernon look for the 'pot of gold'.

The lawyers and legislator will be working double time to iron out all of the legal issues. I can see all of the on scene family not objecting to the immediate removal and the meat wagon taking away the body. Then along comes the family member that lives just far enough away not to get to the scene prior to the removal. And you guessed it, thats the person that objects. Now what is done, bring the body back. First Bellevue will have to unhook all of the tubes, clean the body up and call for the wagon for the return trip. This is similar to the DNR situation. If all family members on the scene tell you not to work the code on grandma, who just had her 95 birthday and they say was talking to them just before you walked through the door, and there is no hard copy of a DNR on scene, start pumping. You never know what the reason the family members are telling you to do something for. As I said, the lawyers and the law makers will have to work out all the details. I hope!!!

At this time there isn't just 1 department, so until there is, this is not BS. This has been done mostly tongue and cheek. As Medibart stated he has done a few EMS calls in the same area with multiple agencies dispatched and it has never been a problem with EMS, nor has it been a problem on the fire side either. In this situation regionalization would only prevent duplicate response of SFD with NRFD or TMFD (60 would not dispatch NRFD and TMFD to the same location). If anything has come out of this I hope that people have thought about "their" districts and maybe looked at similar areas. I think many people will find that there are little pockets that they are responsible for and don't know it. Also, the reverse might be true. Areas you think you cover and are actually covered by a neighboring department. Capt Nechis mentioned 707 & 709 Weaver St., for years the Town of Mamaroneck covered those houses. With the new 911 cad system it IDs those as being in New Rochelle, (they are in New Rochelle) hence NRFD now responds (911 calls are routed for N.R dispatch). Many drivers of the 1st & 2nd due engines and trucks were not aware of this at the time. Now they know it and it is not something that 'you'll figure out at time of the alarm'. As it has been stated here in the past, know your district. When you think you know your district, keep looking. You'll be surprised at what you don't know.

I stand corrected...Weaver St. and Pengilly Dr. ( the other Dennis Dr.) And as I said......the town line is no where near Quaker Ridge Rd and Weaver St.
-
Barry......like I said....the Town of Mamaroneck line is no where near Quaker Ridge Rd and Weaver St.
-
Barry, The town line is at Dennis Dr and Weaver St, give or take 50'. It is no where near Quaker Ridge Rd. Jack10562, The Sheldrake Lake's front half of the lower lake is the Town of Mamaroneck. The rest of the lower and the entire upper lake is in New Rochelle.

Another point about this video. As soon as the vent hole was opened, command ordered the roof cleared. The truckies did the task at hand and got off the roof. The fire vented, interior guys got much needed relief inside, fire was put out and everyone goes home. Life is good!!!!

In an attempt to make the pilots more comfortable, W.C.P.D. has loosened up the grooming standards for it's aviation unit. Yes that is a helicopter on her head!!!

What is really crazy is that my Nextel doesn't work in a lot of locations in southern Westchester. When I was 20 miles south of Cancun Mexico, had full service to Westchester!!!!
-
And 602 is still there. Back to the days of 1 dispatcher on the 12-8 tour. You've come a long way Hap. No I didn't forget 608 or 614, Just don't hear you guys as much. 545/615

When I sat through the Con Ed class on electric, someone used the word 'insulated' and he was immediately stopped. The instructor made a statement that no wire is 'insulated', that they have a protective covering on them. He stated that there might be some lines in the grid that are insulated, however he said that the emergency services MUST follow the rule that NO LINE is insulated. DON'T TOUCHA!!!!
