Not to be a wise a** but has your dept notified OSHA of the multitude of VIOLATIONS? Or Your town code enforcement personal?

I agree 100%, dont confuse "poor tatics" with a true need to bailout which is exactly what happened this is the perfect example, if you have to go, you will, with or without ropes, ladders, or the knowledge to use either one. i know your original question was about bailout using the rope technique. I did hear of one somewhere but it slips my mind, the ladder bailout has been used many times, again with or without the proper training or technique. The most important part of that was THE LADDER WAS THERE TO USE!!!!!

very good point about the extra water, that is another reason for sending 2 engines. I have been involved with vehicle fires that didnt get totally extinguished with 500 gals in the "old' days we used booster lines so you didnt get the right amount of h2o to overcome the btu's. and now with plastic fuel tanks once the fuel gets into the mix you are in for a new adventure. Remember a vehicle fire with nobody trapped and no exposure problems, the responders are the only ones at risk, work safe and smart!!!

lets put a few on here and help make sure all firefighters who read this are well fed

About 10 yrs ago there was a Hudson Valley Firehouse cookbook published in paperback. Firefighters from all over Westchester were asked for recipes. How about we start one here. Nobody cooks better then we do !! Anybody who remembers the Chile Cookoffs @ the Dam will attest to that

in New Ro we have I-95 which gets 2 engines one coming north one going south because you cant assume the info you are getting is correct, also a heavy rescue and deputy chief, also have the Hutch which gets 2 engines same deal, ladder 13 w/ extrication equipment, and the deputy chiefs vehicle. depending on the call, the rescue can be added to the Hutch assignment and Ladder 13 can be added to I-95 as many lanes as needed are to be blocked, and that has caused major problems with state pd over the years. too many firefighters and police officers injured and killed every year on thruways and parkways, stop whatever traffic you have to to operate safely

I have a question, When you stated lake carmel was put to work, was it as the FASteam?

There is some discussion going on in another forum about FAST and response. There are quite a few problems that can arise, that can cause a delay in having a mutual aid FAST response, or for that matter, mutual aid in any form. Here's my question, how long do you wait to notify the requesting dept that you cant fulfill the order? Because if the closest dept cant field a team, and it is around the 15 / 20 minute mark already where is your next team responding from. some of the problems, time of day, weather, social functions, or how about another incident going on at the same time. Westchester has a pretty good M/A plan in effect, but let a good Nor-easter or a blizzard come thru, and and most depts will be dealing with thier own pile of brown stuff before they can send or receive.

VERY WELL STATED, AS A STATE FIRE INSTRUCTOR, I HAVE SEEN MANY A "TRUCKIE" CARRY A HALLIGAN, AND THEN SPIN IT LIKE A BATON WHEN IT CAME TO PROPER PLACEMENT FOR FORCING A DOOR. TRAINING, TRAINING AND MORE TRAINING. 2AM, PEOPLE TRAPPED, HEAVY SMOKE CONDITION, THATS NOT THE TIME TO LEARN.

Can somebody please explain to me what being over trained is? or too much training? I sure hope those posts were made just to piss people off, otherwise there are depts that have more serious issues than who shows up for a parade

We had 2 brothers struck by a cab while they had traffic stopped so the apparatus could back into quarters. He went around stopped cars cus he just had to get his fare to the train station. both are off the job and one has had numerous operations. Bad enough we have to deal with the "normal " hazards of the job, getting hit by a drunk or speeder is becoming way to common. MY PRAYERS TO THE BROTHERS FOR A COMPLETE RECOVERY

it still goes back to what do you consider to be hazing? is the "victim" complaining, and if so that would have to be addressed. If it is considered by "everyone" including firefighters who have gone thru the same "treatment" that it is just fun and games, then maybe the individual that is complaining is the problem, if it is just the opposite, then YES it has to be dealt with and you have a case. there are two distinct groups in any fire dept. everybody that joins is ON the fd. that doesnt get you into the "BROTHERHOOD". That comes with earning your fellow brothers / sisters respect. That comes from doing the right thing at the right time, nobody gives it to you, IT HAS TO BE EARNED. i HAVE SEEN PLENTY OF PROBIES IN 25 YRS, SOME WENT THIER WHOLE CAREER WITHOUT ENTERING THE BROTHERHOOD. SORRY FOR GOING OFF TOPIC

I will get back with my reply as soon as i can figure out a way to word it correctly, as i dont want to offend anybody. before i go I DO NOT CONDONE HAZING, A FF. DIED ABOUT A YEAR AGO DURING "RECRUIT HELL NITE". i figure i will offend someone no matter what I say so here goes, I wonder if you walk around with a clipboard taking names down for breaking federal law, for something so simple as "god bless you " if someone sneezes, or "merry Christmas" now that we can no longer have anything other than "holiday parties". the way you seem to live by the "rules" did you ever go over 30 mph on a city street, or 55 mph on a highway? Did you call the police on yourself. bottom line anything at any given time can offend someone somewhere it is time to fun police to go back where they came from and let Me laugh again without worrying about offending someone.

what do you consider hazing? Is dumping a bucket of water on a probie hazing? there is fun and letting members know they are welcome into the "inner circle" and then there is malicious conduct that should not be tolerated. if your skin isnt thick enough for the fun, you are in the wrong place.

It will be up to the on duty deputy chief. If there are "enough" firefighters (and there never is) to send one member with the unit to the scene or out of town mutual aid, if we have the fire, more than likely, it will be an off duty member recalled.

2 bottles at a time flow rate of 1500 cubic inches per minute(that is a standard for scba not to be exceeded), revolve air system, no down time, while 2 are filling 2 more are hooked up and waiting to be filled. **** 3 min per bottle flow rate, 2 @ a time = min and a half and not all bottles are completly empty when they need refilling, thats how the math works out. anyway you add it up, it is fast enough

yes it has a cascade system on the truck, capable of filling 60 bottles per hour, carries 46 spare cylinders, and will housed at sta 1 until plymo-vent system is upgraded at sta 3
