Seeing the topics about FOIL, another issue comes to mind, the 2 different types of fire districts. There are many fire protection districts within NYS that are actually contracting out fire protection. What are toe pro's and cons of each?
-
Sorry we're on a meal break, can't come to your fire call us in 30 minutes. By law we get a break every 8 hours for food and are closed. Can you imagine?
-
What are the benefits of each?

Better to have them and not need them then to need them and not have them. Not sure? Put them on the road or at least on stand by. I don't believe in calling out specific departments. Should be the closest unless it is a special piece of equipment then still the closest of that. FIrecapt. When thinking of numbers remember the 2 in 2 out. Besides the FAST/RIT outside always have fresh bodies outside ready to go in when the inside crews air tanks are empty. Main line in, firefighters have to be changed out, send in the freash team while they change bottlesThe backup team is probobly not far behind with depleted bottles as well.

Why doesn't every group get up and say they are discriminated against? What is the ratio of Asian or Indian firefighters. Jewish or any other religion? If you want to talk about equality for the masses, add them all in not just one group. I agree with many, how does a written test discriminate unless you don't know how to read or comprehend the question. If you can't figure out Johnny has $1 and want to buy 2 apples at 3 for 89 cents what does it cost? Is it discrimination because of the name they used? Is that it. You're in a smoke filled room wearing a scott pulling ceilings. Another firefighter comes in to help, full PPE, mask, hood etc. It's dark and smokey, who cares what ethnic background or color he or she is. Someone came in to help with the heavy work. Same thing if your on a line and someone steps up to back you up.

There's also Doctors without boarders. My wife and I know 2 who have been in Haiti for some time now. Close to a year each. We did get a message that they were OK, most of their equipment was destroyed as well as most medication etc. they had there. "html%5Dhttps://donate.docto...ce=ADR1001E1D01%5B/html%5D"

Spano is a politician so he can't help himself. He has to lie to always protect himself. .

What do you expect from the Dolan's? Same people who spent millions on shooting down the west side stadium. One thing, with advertising money getting split more and more on the cable channels, free TV will soon be gone. ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox will have to charge cable for their programs as their typical advertisers go to some of the cable channels.

I have been involved in the Fire Service for over 35 years, when I started there was no LOSAP. I do not feel any different today as I did then. I am here to make a difference, to help my neighbors and no lights are going to make any difference. I can't tell you how many times I have been behind the wheel on a rig and can't get out of the parking lot because the cars do not stop for red lights and sirens so forget the blue lights, LOSAP? I don't care about that either. I will provide for my family with my pension, 401 and other investments.

People don't stop or yeild to the rigs with red lights and sirens. What good do blue lights do?

House had an open floor plan and a lot of old wood that was highly treated with polyurethane and high ceilings in a lot of rooms. Was going pretty good on arrival of first in units from what I understand, I arrived 15 minutes after the initial dispatch and saw it from Route 9. Not much you could do except go into exterior ops to knock down the large volume of fire and with the roof and some of the outside walls starting to cave it was tough on trying any interior attack. Putting people inside was not the safe thing to do.

Over near 10th or 11th Ave. Quite a distance.

When you talk about driving your POV to the scene I remember years ago on Long Island the AVIANCA plane crash. Up on the north shore of LI in that area the roads are very narrow. Much like some of the roads in Northern Westchester, Putnam and Duchess that I have experience with. With so many POV's and police cars parked all over the place you had to bring victoms sometimes the equivelant of 10 blocks to get them to a bus for transport. if there was a fire, you would never have gotten the rigs near it.
-
That's it, I have a Blackberry. Find the key at 3 AM. Woops here comes a Deer, or worse. Keep your eyes on the road. We respond to enough people who were on their cells while driving. Don't want to be a statistic.

I like it. As an apparatus operator of usually the first rig in I know who is coming to crew my truck. I know if anyone is going direct as well as knowing who is coming on the next rig behind me. I know if I have to grab someone's gear as well. The only minus is the extra time it takes to call in. I won't do it while driving. It's a toll free number then when is answers you have to hit a key to let it know what you are doing, to the scene, firehouse etc. It shows up on the computer in the radio room and so long as no one changes the screen it's there as you walk in.
-
My department every one goes to the station first except the chiefs. We use I am Responding and if the scene is between you and the firehouse you can put in a code to bring your gear. It works as we are spread out over 20 square miles.

It will also be interesting to see what if any future cooperation that news station gets from local law enforcement in the future.

I know we have had a discussion on this topic before. There have been 2 deaths in separate MVA's in the last week, 4 in the last 6 months and several non fatal accidents in a 3 mile stretch of Route 9 north of Annsville Circle. Several of these involved cars crossing the double yellow. The road curves and there isn't enough room to put up barriers unless you widen the road. Spped inforcement is one short term answer. The state has too look at the road from Annsville up through Garrison.
-
Coming him tonight, looks like another MVA in the same area of Route 9, just south of Susan Drive.

FJ hit it right. How do we know the house is vacant? OK the obvious, boarded up windows etc. Well what if it's an occupied home that you are told "they are away" only to find a house or dog sitter, An older couple who's in Florida etc where an adult child stopped by and decided to spend the night, the list and reasons go on and on. Leave it to the IC to make that desision. They know the area, they've made it this far let their experience and knowledge guide them to make the right call. So when you pull up and someone in the street tells you they're away are you just going to man the deck gun?
-
You're right, it's because people are just in too much of a rush. The people are at fault not the road. All we can get done is to make the road more idiot proof. Put up barriers so you can't wonder onto the wrong side of the road. 3 fatalities all due to one car crossing the double yellow line. That's 3 since the summer. The problems of Jack Road, when you go north and want to turn into Jack there is a rise just south of you so if your sitting there waiting to make the left, anyone coming over the rise has to drive on the shoulder to get around you because there is not enough room to stop.
-
So long as there are idiots on the road, and there always will be there needs to be a way of keeping everyone else safe. The speed limit there is 50. No one does that. Just like on the hill down from Ossining to Croton on 9. HOw many tickets do they hand out there where the limit is 45? My wife got a ticket there years ago and the town attorney all but said its a speed trap because nobody does 45 there. Enforce the speed limit, put up barriors and widen the road, create turn lanes. All it takes is money, or some politition getting hurt.
-
Up here it's one lane in each direction and a shoulder. No turn lane and many places where if you are waiting to make a left across traffic cars and trucks zip by on the shoulder. Nobody does the speed limit and the LEO's know this but do not have the manpower to put a car on the 5 mile stretch.
-
$25 per car, I have 5 cars to do that's $125. Plus the added fee for the MTA. I just added a car and got new plates. They tack on $50 for the MTA. You'll have to pay that on renewals too. So it's going to be $75 per car. So MJP you'll be staying in for a month.
