Very good point T. Any injury should be reported as there may be complications later on. You never know, any cut can be cleaned and bandaged at the scene but how deep is it? Infection, blood poisoning on and on. The things you can be exposed to today. Got dust in your eye while overhauling, possible cornea injury? CYA.

Last night I bought gas at a station that a week ago was $1.80 and now $1.99

This is all based on the instability in the middle east. Any time there has been trouble prices go up. Speculation about interuptions in supply.

Are any of you aware that a Mt Vernon probie was ejected out of the academy for threatening the life of a White Plains probie this past week? From what I heard (from an excellant source) the incident took place this past week on the 30th and he was ejected from the academy this week on Monday. Word has it that some of the fire department officials are going to try to save his job because he is connected/related to someone. I guess the newspapers missed this with all the coverage of the election. I thought the new commissioner said ZERO TOLERANCE?

Many on the west side of Putnam County and Northwestern Westchester knew Johnny. YOu'd be at an MVA any hour and he'd show up for the tow no matter how cold in shorts. He'd always be willing to help people, He was a Life Member of Garrison. Here is the news article from the Journal News. The road by the way was closed till just after 11 PM. Funeral arrangements are still pending. ________________________________________________________________________________ _ Read more about this later on Lohud.com and in The Journal News.

There was a time there was only 2 Scott's on a rig, then went to 3. Also remember back in the 70's and 80's Scott's were not really used when doing exterier operations.

It's time government lived within a budget. Just like us, this is what you have to spend, that's it. Now do your annual budget. How amny of us have unlimited funds? Can you just ask your boss for more money? That's exactly what the government is doing, we are supposed to be the boss, they are telling us they will be taking more money. Maybe its time to give them the message, if the people have any B@!!s vote out all the incumbants. That will tell the rest WAKE UP!

Benefits I get, meeting some great people, making new friends and knowing I am doing something to help my neighbor that most of them can't or won't do. I do it for the personal gratification. If I get a free bottle of water or coffee great.

Maybe Yonkers can supplement their budget by going into the Ladder Truck rental business.

I know you guys don't always admit it but Croton is part of the Town of Cortlandt. Consolidation in the town can and would work. you guys already work with the Tri Village departments, sometimes Mohegan and they cover part of the town and Continental Village. Also with Ossining to the south the town has several departments. I would think town wise would be a great place to start.
-
This could definitly trickle down and have an impact on all of us. Wait until you have to submit your departments budget for approval. Time has come where they are going to go through it line by line. Food after a fire? New pool table, new gear, TIC its all going to have to be justified. Just hope you don't have a problem and have to send a rig out for major repairs. Did you all go out already and by ropes? Up to date gear for interiors? We are going to see major pushback from our towns and villages.

They have a lot of commercial buildngs, office building, a mall, North Shore Hospital and some very heavily traveled roads.

Chris, I like your thinking

I am wrong. Last I read Judge Kaye was approving everything.

The Judges raise was all public earlier this year.
-
Raise taxes but no pay raise? We seem to be going backward. Everything goes up except pay. I still say the overpaid Politicians should vote themselves a pay cut. Most of them on the state level voted themselves a Cost of Living Increase. The Judges also are getting or already got a raise but the guy down the bottom pf the pecking order gets what? Can't even say a lump of coal as that is even expensive today. Shows its still screw the little guy, everyone else for themselves.
-
I didn't see any reduction in pay for elected officials, even the ones who voted for a pay raise. I know it was either the end of last year or the begining of this year. Can anyone tell me about the Rainy Day Fund? Reductions of legislative staffs? Not there either. Now for the Soda tax. If I drink a rum and coke do I get taxed vs a rum and diet coke? While times are tough its time for the bafooms in Albany to think out of the box. You can just tax people to a point where they revolt or work with them. How many are in the same boat with Mark and have not had a raise in several years? Bonuses are another thing that is gone. We're all trying to make ends meet with the same amount of money. OK Governor, how about you use the same numbers as last year and make it work? Then oyu may have a chance at re election. Making us pay more taxes actually lowers the standard of living.

At this point I know I'm an MPO and with my bad back not much else. I wear my pants and boots while driving. When I get to the scene I put on my coat and get the rig set up, c*** the wheels set up for4 pump whatever. Same if I'm driving the rescue. I have everything with me if I have to go to work and as soon as we are on the scene I put the rest on. Todays rigs are not as roomy as the older ones. At 6'4" and 250 there isn't a lot of room for me to wear my full PPE minus helmut. Bobby if that's the rule in NR and it works for you fine. But up here the drive to an alarm is longer, some of the roads are tighter than the driveways you deal with and longer. Our SOP's say it's up to whoever is driving.
-
If you're operating the pumps you should have at the very least your bunker pants and boots as well as a vest. I do when I drive and pump and put my coat and helmut in a compartment in case I need them. At MVA's there is always a chance you'll be needed to do something and you'll need to be in full PPE. And if your a bigger person, driving the newer rigs with turnout coats is difficult. My full gear is always on the rig if I am driving.

I remember a fire on LI about 20 years ago, the Nassau County 8th PCT. had a fire on the second floor. Bethpage was disoatched as it was their district. Next door was one of Levittown's fire houses with an engine and ladder. They were never called.
