It is with great sadness that I announce that a good friend, Rob Arons passed away today (Sunday, 4/21).
Rob was a volunteer Ex-Chief with Fairview FD and he previously worked at 60 Control as Operator 611.
Rob "retired" from 60 so he could move to Florida, where he then worked as a dispatcher for Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue.
One of Rob's friends said it all when he wrote:

I have an Otterbox Defender case for my smart phone, but I didn't care for the belt clip...it didn't seem very secure. In addition, I wanted a pouch style case that I could put the phone with the Otterbox on it in. I found a case by RipOffs. They make multiple sizes for phones, cameras, radios,... They're very durable, and inexpensive.

I have an Otter Box that I love. Its extremely durable as I have dropped it countless times with zero damage (I also have a 4S...anyone that has one has heard horror stories about how fragile that they can be and how much they cost to replace). The Otter Box used to cost about $50 from the cell phone carrier. However, amazon.com now carries them for somewhere between $16 and $23 depending on which color/design that you choose. I know it is not exactly what you are looking for as it has a belt clip with a swivel and does not allow you to pass your belt through a holster but I am extremely satisfied with mine. For the cost you can't go wrong trying one out.

Desantis makes some velcro/belt clip phone pouches. The only issue is an Iphone 5 with an otterbox case is too big for their iphone case, but it fit my 3gs fine, and I guess a 4s shouldn't be a problem.

The LifeProof case for iPhone has served me well but it is pretty large/bulky. Being water, shock, and dust/dirt proof though does have its advantages. Comes with a belt clip that allows it to be worn at any angle.

Rob was one of the good guys in both the fire service and in life. Never a bad word about anyone. He will be missed by all. It was sad to see him leave Westchester, it was Florida's gain. Does anyone have more info or sites to visit? RIP Rob!

Rigorous training, awareness, accountability and sheer luck probably are significant factors helping prevent firefighter fatalities due to reduced staffing for interior operations.
The current (under)manning levels are lunacy, expecting the first team of two guys to enter, search and suppress, and that's if everything goes according to plan.
Whatever happened to two-in-two-out? Are 2 guys going in without the same number of guys on ready-standby, behind them ?

While something needs to be done, an assault on The Constitution and The Bill of Rights for LEGAL GUN OWNERS is not the answer.
We all know Gov.Cuomo is aspiring for a future presidential run, and (IMO) this is nothing more than a hot-button topic for him to ride on.
For a snapshot of the effect that the toughest gun laws in the nation are capable of, all one needs to do is take a look at ChIcago, the guns-down, murder capitol of the country.
Is this what you want for NY, too, Mr Governor?

While many "routine" calls might be better handled by a transport unit instead of 911 the issue is (like it or not) residents in nursing homes are still residents of your comunity and you have a moral and ethical obligation to serve them.
Remember that almost everyone will someday either be there or have loved ones there. It is sad that the care there is often poor, its made worst when those sworn to protect them, have so little interest.
