  1. Any scanner that can pick up UHF (high band) can "listen" on any of the trunked system frequencies (except for the control channel, unless...you LIKE the sound of a diesel engine running;-). However it's somewhere between difficult, to impossible, to follow a talk-group conversation since the frequency assigned to a talk-group can change every single time someone keys up.
  2. That's Great News! ps: your radio is ready
  3. I made this a new topic for updating agencies going on to the new system, and moved those posts here since the other thread was getting pretty long.
  4. Everyone who has voice pagers on low band will still get the alarm/dispatch\alert on their existing pager (46.26, 33.96) There is NO change with dispatch procedure. However with those agencies moving over to the trunked system, all further communications will be on the trunked system. You will no longer be able to hear any of that radio traffic on a voice pager, so if you want to easily follow those communications one will need a trunk-tracking scanner. ( or a fire radio) You can get a brand new handheld Uniden BC246T for around $200 retail, or find something used on eBay for a lot less. I just got one for myself and it's really nice! I also have a BCD996T in the house, and that is very nice, too!
  5. Steve, I heard Fairview doing their 1810 radio test on the trunked system earlier this week, and I could swear that I heard NR Ladder 12 on the air, once. Ve have vays around zee lock... any thread anyone wants, we can take a look at....
  6. Wow , he fell out TWICE! [ ]
  7. Westchester County Dept of Public Safety has a bunch of specialized units. Plus there is the County Sherriff's, now called Public Safety Emergency Force http://www.westchestergov.com/ps/ Click on Site Index for more. Not all of the specialties are listed, for example, the bomb squad doesn't have a web page, although THAT would be cool.
  8. The fact he was associated with the fire service makes it sexy, "Suspended firefighter faces 3rd arrest in 4 months" sells more papers than "Local Teen arrested Three Times" Everyone in public service might as well face reality, especially when it's concerning the media: ... anything that you do wrong will be reflected on what it is that you do.
  9. Based on what I saw from the Trunked screen that 60 Control has, they do have the capability to patch any of the EMS or FIRE banks/battalions together, in just about any configuration that your IC wants. As for your discussion topic, I believe your department needs to establish it's own run protocol. For ease and simplicity, on the MVA run you describe, just have your EMS switch to FIRE before leaving quarters, and remain on that bank for the duration of the call. Once on the scene or while enroute to the hospital, they can switch over, if necessary. 60 Control dispatchers have enough going on without having to worry about who gets what patch configuration for which runs. I think using Fireground channels should be out of the picture during a response since it's only a low-power channel, or for backup emergency use, if the trunk system is down.
  10. Many Westchester VFD's already do have a dual-response protocol, complete with time of day and location based response design. This helps ensure adequate personnel and equipment do in fact get out, especially during the day when many members are at work in jobs out of town. I found a very interesting article regarding costs, it's dated, but relevant, none the less. http://www.newsday.com/news/specials/nyf-i...l_nassau_xpromo
  11. Not only that, And now, it''s a Rescue!
  12. These are important questions, here's another: did the alert/alarm tones even go out properly? Sometimes calls get broadcast on the wrong system, ie: fire alert tones transmitted over the police frequency. I would think an agency should automatically re-transmit when no units sign on after two to three minutes, and automatically go Mutual Aid after a second unsuccessful dispatch. How "small" is the neighboring department? Do they have a history of being unable to respond to alarms? How many calls a month do they get? One, ten, sixty? There are other issues, (and I think most likely, here) was the call for one of the department's Frequent Flyers, a location with repeated automatic (false) alarms @2AM, or was it for a CO detector activation W/no symptoms, or otherwise "nuisance" call? I doubt if an agency or municipality could be held liable in the event of a blown call, but you can "bet the ranch", there WILL be a lawsuit.
  13. I moved your question to it's own thread from> http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=22982 I set up my bcd996t to have Westchester County Transit Talkgroups under their own group quick key and toggled them all "off" using the BuTel ARC software. Here's a copy of my WC Trunked profile save a Copy the file to your drive and Rename the .txt file to WestTrunked.m96 and import it into your system. If that doesn't work, I can Email it to you Or, switch to ID scan instead of ID search, that way only the ID's in the list get picked up, on search any ID will come in. Or to do it manually, place the scanner in hold and scroll to the BeeLine ID's and press L/O for each one. 49744 Bee Line Bus L 49808 Bee Line Bus V 49872 Bee Line Bus L 50032 Bee Line Bus S 50416 Bee Line Bus L 50448 Bee Line Bus 50480 Bee Line Bus L
  14. That might have something to do with the New Canon Digital Rebel XTi 400D now in the toolbag. (I don't see any protection bumpers by the gas service!) http://www.x635photos.com/displayimage.php...m=23&pos=21
  15. I saw this on TV news earlier. This is one lucky guy, to have been yanked out of the burning car by officers, just before it totally went up in flames! Story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22728953/ Video: http://www.ketv.com/video/15084119/index.html?taf=oma There is a bit of local news lead in, prior to the video.

  17. The easiest way to lock out an ID, press L/O when the ID appears. The ID is locked out, and the next active ID appears. If they set up your radio with PD in it's own bank, then L/O the bank Okay I found this in the manual: turning a trunked bank on or off: 1. Press and hold SCAN/MANUAL during trunk scanning. The selected trunked banks appear. 2. Press the bank number (0–9), to turn the desired bank on or off. If you DO decide to purchase software: The BuTel ARC443 software allows 10 free system uploads (without buying it). From their site: "Use the ARC433 demo version to verify communication works before purchasing the software! IMPORTANT: Radioshack cables 20-048 and 20-049 do NOT work with the Pro-433/528/2051" PC interface cable 20-047 for USB or PC interface cable 20-289 for serial port The software makes it SO much easier to change stuff around. 18. EM2FD, there is a mobil lo-fi version, go to EMTBravo.mobi, I've never tried it but it should work. And also under consideration right now, there is the development of an alert pager-type feature. It's being seriously looked into. ems-buff, Ive found a lot of interesting information from coming here, and have learned a lot just from "listening" to everyone. And I too, especially enjoy the incident alerts. Kudos to Truck4, and all the others who post the latest events, keeping everybody current with the latest happenings. And especially to Seth, for putting the whole thing up in the first place. The site has really grown from its humble beginnings. It really is a great community!
  19. Click on the JOBS link in the site link above, Looks like They're hiring!
  20. HMMMM! ..This could be very interesting.... I would like to think this could be a do-able feature!!! I'm not privy to the intracasies of the forum software, but there is already an email settings control panel option available to enable email notifications sent when new Private Messages are received, and we also now have the option to subscribe to email notifications to any topic you start or reply to. So... maybe this can be tweaked to include an email or SMS text message when Incident Alerts or IA sub forum thread messages post??? I imagine enabling something like this will likely expend quite a bit of bandwidth, so if it is in fact doable, I think it should be extended to members on a paid, subscription basis. A subscriber could feasibly select only local Westchester incident alerts, or toggle on or off any of the available regions. I like it!
  21. Seth, I had my finger on "the button" That was .
  22. I can't seem to find anything online for a Fuji Film Fine Pix 2700. Did you mean S-700? In any case, here is a primer-site, that gets the basics: (there are TONS of sites) http://digital-photography-school.com/blog...to-use-it-here/ Once you become more familiar with your camera, it will get easier for you to choose adjustments for different lighting conditions and to format the subject of your shot. You need to take lots of pictures and compare the results and effects the different settings produce. For instance, night shots usually need an exposure or shutter speed adjustment, even on auto, to allow in more light. Greatest thing is you just delete the ones you don't like! Have fun, and enjoy the new camera! Jack-
  23. All of our topics, and information, are timeless!!! The intent is for threads that lie dormant for two weeks generally have passed their current-interest level. They won't be deleted, they will be archived in place. If something new comes along on the same topic, just start a new topic and post a link to the old one. This saves readers from scrolling through a sometimes multi-page thread to get the new posting. It really will benefit everyone. Jack
  24. Even Home Depot has a program for testing it's employees. I'm sure there are hundreds of other jobs where there is nobody's life or property at stake that require random testing, or mandatory testing under reasonable suspicion. I can't see where the labor union even has to get involved. There is no trade-off. No bargaining. Submit to testing, that's it. If anything and in addition if not already an employer policy, provide those employees that do test positive with one "get-out-of-jail-free" card: test positive, and you go for in-patient treatment, period. Test positive a second time, ?....? open for discussion... Everyone will be safer and healthier.
