  1. Thank you to all the members who have donated money and supported EMTBravo!
  2. Best wishes to everyone, Have A Happy Easter!
  3. "Expansion" costs nothing but the time it takes to design a few web pages that sit on a server in Texas. That hardly caused a cash crunch. Deleting those "branches" would save NADA. Seth used to cover the cost difference of what the site took in and the operating expenses out-of-his-own-pocket. Anyone who has been around here for more than a few months knows that due to circumstances beyond his control, the pockets are now empty. A paid subscription model is something that is being considered. Like it or not, Ads and donations are the only things that are keeping this site online. When these numbers don't add up and the server bills don't get paid, the site goes dark.
  4. Yes it is, but the PO Box will be shut down in the very near future. (PayPal is preferred) And Thanks for your support!
  5. WOW, Talk about selfish! I bet you get bent out of shape waiting for a funeral to pass. For those individuals who have a problem with ads or supporting the site, You know where the door is.....
  6. Right now, Ads are what is keeping the site alive. (and donations!) NoAds = No Site. If every single member kicked in one dollar, there would be enough revenue from that alone, to operate the site for over two years! As a FYI: There are different plans kicking around behind the scenes, like paid site subscriptions and other measures, with the intention of providing additional benefits to EMTBravo Members and to generate operating funds. For now, Members may donate using the link on the Main Portal site, EMTBravo.com
  7. Rest in Peace, Officer Matthew Morelli. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family, and those who knew him.
  8. 73% ... ...and the mayor can promote someone who hasn't taken the test, over someone who has....(taking this in another direction)
  9. ....amazing.... Ken.... you just don't get it, do you... ...time to crawl back under your rock...
  10. No, a "general alarm" is local terminology for an "all-hands" call, versus a single company dispatch. The I/C is the GRAND POOBAH /exalted leader
  11. Yes. You got it. It is the equivalent of a second alarm being transmitted.
  12. I think a portal link to a members photo album area might be a great idea to look into. We would need some ground rules, like the photos have to be the property of the poster, or copyright permissions have been obtained, etc. ( We can dial all that stuff in later, no need to discuss that here )
  13. Agreed! Thanks, Ron! Regards to the boys, "over there"
  14. I would like to view the whole page in my browser window. Right now I need to scroll left or right to see content on the sides. Screen resolution @1024x768
  15. What that means is both engine companies get dispatched simultaneously on a general alarm. Whoever gets to the scene first either lays in or hits the hydrant and works.
  16. The volume of water available in a 2-1/2 and reduced friction loss is likely why that was done. Stretching individual hand lines that distance would mean over 1000 feet of 1-3/4 would have needed to be pulled for 2 attack lines. With 175 PSI needed just to cover the friction loss alone, the pump operator would have to supply 275 PSI! That makes for tough hose handling!
  17. E94 is a back-up engine, E93 and E92 are first due. I wasn't there but the 2-1/2 was probably requested due to the distance from the curb to the involved unit was over 500 feet, and 1-3/4 "apartment-packs" were tied in to a gated wye for attack lines at that point.
  18. Tom is an officer with Briarcliff Manor Police Department, and as an Ex-Chief of The Briarcliff Manor Fire Department currently serves as one of the department Deputy Chiefs. Tom is also the Company President of Briarcliff Fire Company (Engine Company) Congratulations, Tom! ps: I found out that Tom is a long-time "Lurker" here at EMTBravo...
  19. There appears to be more going on in Riverhead FD than the story reveals. I don't see the correlation of a driver having a DWI accident returning from a parade out-of-town, with alcohol being served in their own firehouses. Consuming alcohol and driving apparatus should be forbidden, no matter what...that's a no-brainer. As an aside, many departments have banned alcohol consumption in their buildings, except for during certain events and gatherings...the "good ole days" are gone...no more open bars for members to hang around.
  20. Looks like they're using (possibly illegal) management tactics similar to a lower Westchester County city, who shall remain unnamed, but whose initials are Mt. Vernon....
  21. The Chief's elections are in April, a new 3rd Assistant Chief is going to be elected, and the other assistant Chiefs move up.
  22. Back in the late 70's early 80's, a decision was made to put all departments adding voice / alert pagers to be on 33.96 because there already was way too much traffic on 46.26. My personal feeling is there is still too much traffic on 46.26 and thankfully, the new trunked system is taking a big chunk off of that band.

  24. Doc, you didn't indicate if you had line-voltage interconnected hard wired or stand-alone single station detectors. There are battery and line-voltage combination ionization smoke / CO detectors, or dual-chamber smoke-only units. I have never seen a "tri-detector" with photo electric/ionization smoke and CO detection, but they may exist. If you currently have battery-operated single station units, you can get CO/Smoke detectors that create a wireless interconnected system: when one detector activates, they all sound. Hard-wired line-voltage units may require the services of an electrician, especially if the quick-connect plugs are a different style on the new detectors, and need to be changed.
