  1. I did not want to interrupt the existing Carmel Structure Fire Discussion topic which is becoming more of an online condolence thread, however I'm curious and I understand the incident investigation is ongoing, but were there not any working smoke detectors in this house? Could this be yet another multi-fatality incident where the loss of life might have been preventable?
  2. I bet I would remember the exact time, if it were me that got zapped....! Fake or not, this movie gives a glimpse of the type of dangerous situations our Finest are subjected to on a regular basis, and it's neither glamorous, nor pretty. There is no such thing as a routine "disturbance" call. I have a great deal of respect for our cops who take their job seriously.
  3. This is why cops are using cameras. This camera turns on when police activate a Taser gun at defendants. Note the difference between what the defendants, their mothers and their wives, say to the Judge BEFORE the video plays! At the end look at the size of the last guy and the tie he's wearing.. it only covers half of his chest and his mom should also apologize for lying. Can they charge them with perjury?
  4. The LoHud article I questioned did not indicate this was a department Chief's vehicle or that the operator was an assistant chief. The updated webpage now includes this information, that it was in fact a fire department owned vehicle. Something else to ponder: I would think most insurance companies would reject any claims resulting from an accident that involved reckless operation on the part of the operator. Speeding, crossing double-yellow lines, blowing red lights/stopsigns, all would surely get you a reckless driving summons under certain circumstances. And, what's your point with stirring the pot, FFLieu? Chief Flynn already stated there are instances where career ff's aren't exempt.
  5. How is it the town was involved in the lawsuit? Was it a Department-owned vehicle?
  6. I always used to get ours filled at Stew Leonards in Yonkers. They always had the best price.
  7. Five Alarm Building Fire W/ 2 FF LODD http://phillyfirenew...detail/6703.php R.I.P.
  8. Is there a mysterious font-size bug? random posts have real tiny text, just like yours^ Keep pluggin' away!
  9. Clicking on a link in a post used to open the new content in a separate browser window(tab). It's a pain you-know-where, because now you have to navigate back to the site rather than just closing the new window(tab) when you're done there. And as already mentioned, opening any topic takes you to the first post in the thread, rather than the page where the reader's last-read post was. The smiley's won't open in the "more options" text editor toolbar...FF-11.0 Keep up the good work, Boss!
  10. When you're connected to the controller look in My Computer / properties / hardware / device manager / Ports / (COM&LPT) for any connection errors. As mentioned make sure the software is looking for the same communication port as the device.
  11. ...in a matter of seconds! At least the tow truck driver knew soon enough to bail out!
  12. It appears as if someone stuck a regular old hat badge on the front panel decal as an ID.

  15. I wonder how good the town residents would feel knowing that when they call the fire department, they'll get a police officer first, ( if they're not too busy) then have to wait some more to see the red trucks only if deemed necessary~?
  16. I'm not sure I like the part near the end of the video where after the interior rooms are knocked down, an exterior hand line is shown being directed at the structure while personnel are still working inside.
  17. We'll never know who these clowns heard commenting on the video are, but that doesn't really matter, they're just ignorant. Remove the audio and watch the action and see if there is anything worthwhile to learn from viewing that, by itself. Think about is there anything you would do, or do differently, if this was your call. What IS important to remember, as already pointed out, is the fact that "cameras are everywhere" and whatever you do (or don't do) in public may be recorded on video and wind up out there on the Web for everyone to see.
  18. Nationwide (estimates) show that the majority of home fires are caused by a fireplace or chimney (37%), with a failure to clean as the leading cause (26%) The majority of civilian deaths resulted from space heaters (79%) were caused by a heater too close to combustibles (53%) http://www.nfpa.org/assets/files//PDF/Latest%20estimates/LatestEstimatesHeating.pdf?utm_source=March+15%2C+2012&utm_campaign=Email+Newsletter+Analytics&utm_medium=email more: http://www.nfpa.org/categoryList.asp?categoryID=291&URL=Safety%20Information/For%20consumers/Causes/Heating&order_src=CO72&lid=CO72
  19. Why is it these lawmakers can't stay out of woman's vagina's? If you're against abortion, then don't have one.
  20. ConEd rolled out a CAD system for gas and electric emergency response crews over 7 years ago. Each vehicle has a Toughbook MDT with live GPS vehicle locating. Dispatchers and supervisors can "see" where every crew is at any given moment, in order to move the nearest available unit to a job. In addition we used Garmin dashboard GPS units for best response/ travel routing. Every mobile field unit has up-to-date (proprietary) company facility mapping software, featuring all pertinent information related to the gas and electric transmission & distribution systems including but not limited to valve/switch/transformer/manhole locations, operating pressures/voltages, cable/pipe/wire size, and so on. Supervisor's vehicles had internet access ( behind the corporate firewall, of course! ) and printers for generating hard-copies of maps and documents. Hardly any voice communication was required between dispatch and field crews once the system was fully implemented, since location and status information were updated in real-time.
  21. Crime cop hit the nail on the head....I wish I could vote-up your post more than once! Mostly though, I don't get why the City even needed to hold a "press conference" Just because some punk skel running from cops who were attempting to arrest him on an outstanding warrant, turned on the cops with a knife and left the cops with no choice but to respond with deadly force. Then they totally failed to control the audience who clearly don't give a crap about civility. After the first audience outburst they should have turned off the mic, shut the lights and said "this press conference is over, go home, goodnight".
  22. We have already seen The Town of Cortlandt and Town of Ossining disband their police departments and contract with the County for police services. Existing officers for each town were "hired" by the county and now they get a county paycheck. It is going to take much, much longer for the fire service to accomplish anything similar to this here (Westchester) since there currently is no county-wide fire department to absorb existing town or city fire operations. Even if the economy does a 180 turnaround, there will always be towns, villages and cities looking for ways to save $$$
  23. Good thing there was nobody in the front passenger seat! That section looks like it took the brunt of the impact.
  24. Be very careful what you post online especially about your job. We had a FF up here in Bourne who was fired by the town for "conduct unbecoming" as a result of posting his gripes on FB. Needless to say, he had what he felt was a legitimate axe to grind with the town and his bosses, but this was the icing on the cake when the town got hold of his posts. It makes no sense turning yourself into a lightning rod where you could lose your livelihood over something as simple as speaking your mind. This guy may "win" in the end, but in the meantime he's out of work...it could take months and months of court battles to get "justice", and then again he may not...there's no guarantee,
  25. Maybe we all need to head down to Florida and "take some notes" on how they did their consolidation. We should only need about a month, or two, Start in the Keys, and work north! beach front would be preferable... George, Tom?
