Public forums being what they are, to some extent that is the case, but quite a few responses to these posts have had to be taken offline and removed from public view due to extremely negative comments. So... site staff discussed the issue and a decision was made to draw the line and ask people not to post these types of articles. If a news story involves a MOS accused of or caught doing something while on duty or acting in an official capacity, then that's different, members will be able to post and discuss that.

Three parades in three days is a pretty hectic schedule! I'd like to see them sweep, and pull off a "triple crown" The Ossining FD color guard is especially sharp, that unit will be definitely tough to beat!

From the NHSTA June 2008 Monthly Recall Report http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recal...thlyreports.cfm

My feeling is every emergency vehicle operator should take and pass an NHSTA and/or DOT approved course (EVOC) to ensure the knowledge and skill practice necessary, how to safely operate the types of emergency vehicles they will be driving. This tragic accident is under investigation, maybe a tire blew out or the brakes failed or the accelerator got stuck, whatever happened, in my opinion anytime there is an occupant ejection, there is a pretty good chance that a seat belt was not being used.

Not exactly, Andy. This is a little different. This is geared for members who have a user ID that does not contain their real name, and who might want to include it.

I agree that with shared-use frequencies people do step on each other, and sometimes its a cluster... crazy.... Turns out that theirs is a private-use channel, they are simply using their own available resources.

No agency is going to "kick-out' anyone for "no good reason" ... If someone tries to volunteer somewhere and has the time to train and continues to meet minimum "membership" requirements, then they do what they can when they can. If there are personality issues, and drama, ( and believe me, I know, there almost always is in every volunteer organization) then they can simply leave. Nobody has to put up with BS they don't want to be around. Or if they can't cut it, than that's a reason.

????? huh? It's a longstanding and common practice for local departments to send out a alert / page to members to remind them of a drill or work detail. It's hardly a "waste" it's not like the radio waves got used up and now nobody can use them... The county's new trunked radio system has moved the bulk of radio traffic off low band frequencies, so it's not like they stepped on anyone's toes by transmitting what, a 20 second message?....

...Sounds like he's a "shoe-in"....

That's correct. "Retiring" the dispatcher's number of those who left "60 Control" has been the current practice. Questions..... I wonder what they plan to do after they hire dispatcher #699.... go to 6100, 6101, or 60-01, 60-02, etc.??? Will CAD accept a 4 digit dispatcher identifier? ???

WOW!!! It appears the Volunteer Fire Service has a very effective lobbying mechanism in place.

With it mounted inside, it's visible from behind with the rear hatch down, but more importantly, it's visible with the hatch up. If it was roof mounted, the open hatch would completely block it.

I have to agree with Chief Flynn. No reason for any state residents covered by career emergency services agencies should have to contribute anything. They already pay for those services through their local taxes, and it would be unfair to expect them to subsidize taxes affecting a select pool of others.

It sounds like a breach of the 2004 union contract / medical benefits package. Just because the insurer is slow to pay claims, they can't unilaterally decline to provide coverage while under the terms of the contract.

I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding what exactly was the situation surrounding "the gas" what was that all about.... what was the gas involvement, if any, and why wasn't the supply simply shut off at the outside gas meter, on the corner of the house?
-
This situation is absurd. As Donald Trump would say: You're fired...
-
Perhaps it's because he exceeded his "in-service" hours, (through no fault of his own) and was prohibited by regulation from further flight time.
-
It looks like a natural gas service to this building, the gas meter is outside on the front left. But even if it was propane here, anyone could have operated the shutoff valve below the meter since there was no involvement at that exposure.

Basically, ALPHA member status is earned. After a member reaches 350 posts (or in some cases, sooner) they can become an ALPHA member. One line posts and replies with stuff like "LOL", or other similar non-contributing posts, can sometimes be eliminated from the "post count" resulting in a higher post count qualification requirement.
