  1. If I'm not mistaken, The Ossining Town board has adopted a resolution supporting creation of the District at their Oct 14th town board meeting, and allocated $395,250, however the public hearings have not been concluded, nor has the permissive referendum been scheduled. The Village of Ossining Board of Trustees also has to consent. Here is a link to the Town of Ossining Ambulance District Plan: http://www.townofossining.com/docs/townboa...t_Plan-0908.pdf The Corps has paid and volunteer Medics on staff as well as about 50 OVAC volunteers, who are EMT"S, drivers, and first aider's. I believe Phelps still sponsors the Tri-Community Area Fly Car Service.
  2. Congratulations, "Roundhead".

  4. During an extrication the vehicle's air bag deploys unexpectedly, injuring emergency personnel working on a victim. What does anyone do to prevent this from happening to them? Thanks to Battalion 12, for sharing this.
  5. Not so fast...The rule is still being phased in, with a caveat. Please re-read [[Page 70595]] You will need to perform a PPE hazard assessment (at each and every scene) and if heat and flame are expected to be encountered, then you may dispense with the hi-vis requirement. After the heat / flame exposure threat is mitigated you would still need hi-vis.
  6. Welcome home, Ed. Glad you got back in time for the holidays!
  7. I would have been going around putting signs up. That way she would win, and be gone!
  8. Closer is not always better...you don't necessarily want to strip all available resources that happen to be closest.
  9. It's 12 miles from Yorktown Heights HQ to the scene. It's 12 miles from Croton (Grand St) to the scene.
  10. Rest in Peace, Sgt. Simpson. My sincerest condolences to his family and colleagues.
  11. Many bloggers who post comments in LoHud can be entertaining and sometimes "blow a lot of smoke", except for the one who remarked that whoever leaked the details of what is essentially an internal Village personnel matter, may have possibly violated Chief Reddy's civil rights, and that may be actionable. Chief Reddy did nothing wrong in forwarding that to his private email contacts, on a personal email account. Had it been sent on a Village of Ossining owned account: "BabyChief"@VillageofOssiningFD. gov" email, then Mrs. Cooper would have grounds to get indignant. Personally I found the email cartoon joke in question neither racist, nor funny, for that matter. And I did not label the sender a racist, or even insensitive. A stupid email joke. I deleted it. Get over it. I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate the vehicle reference thing might have had something to do with fooling around broadcasting sounds over a vehicle PA speaker system....?
  12. Water begins to freeze at 32 degrees F (0 C)and has to be standing still at that temperature for ice crystals to form. Moving water in a firehose or river, will not freeze right away, and can actually get colder than "freezing" and stay in a liquid state, as long as it keeps moving. A truck's tank water takes a very long time to cool off to where ice might begin to form. However the answer to that problem during extended outdoor exposure is to keep it "in pump" and circulate the water, again, moving water will not freeze as fast as standing water. Hose couplings are a different concern, the threads themselves can freeze if it's cold enough outside, even with water moving through the hose. The water in hydrants is usually deep enough and below the frost line to freeze. Hydrants that don't drain properly for whatever reason have anti-freeze added to the barrel.
  13. I don't see anywhere in Chief Flynn's post where there is a recall requirement as per your statement: B )
  14. I'm not going to post links, but there are dozens of utube videos showing guys getting hurt and doing stupid stuff at drills. There is no reason for this kind of stuff to be happening.
  15. Eighteen days till the big event! Please RSVP to Rob: EMTBravoEvents@aol.com if you will be attending. Thank you!

  17. Good luck w/getting it back home. It sure needs some serious work. You would think the "owner" would be glad to just get it off his land.
  18. There is no logical explanation. The individual who you observed was in violation of NYS V&T Law S~375. Equipment, 41.2, in as much as his/her vehicle is NOT an authorized emergency vehicle, and thus not permitted to display red lights. Some individuals may occasionally go overboard, and if observed, should be dealt with accordingly. If you should choose to pursue this, you may Contact the Briarcliff Manor Fire Chief at the Chief's Office: 914-941-0879, or Email: FDChief@briarcliffmanor.org

  20. Exactly how many NY State Fire Academies (or any other Civil Service training for that matter) have a full time residency requirement anyway? Up at 0600 -curfew 1900, ...This is NOT the military.
  21. Yeah, have a Ground-Hog-Day Outdoor Clambake...Steamed King Crab legs,...melted butter hardening on your chin...that's the ticket!
  22. Whoopdee doo. We had one clap of thunder, very little wind, and some rain. Just as well. Unrelated, there is a fairly good sized power outage going on in our area that hit around 1845, we still have no lights. According to ConEd they have about a thousand customers out. Trusty 6KW generator to the rescue....
  23. John, If your relief comes in right now, you should make it home just in time for the fun!
  24. Its a pretty impressive radar squall line of convection from near Richmond VA to Binghamton!!
