Here's the Lt. Andy Fredericks, FDNY, Memorial Seminar & Exhibits itinerary, from the event calendar: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?act=cale...amp;m=2&d=7

Let me see if I got this right, they didn't know 18 eligible employees were planning to retire? How much notice do people normally give, 5 days? 1 week? 2 weeks? At my former place of employment, we were asked to provide 4 MONTHS notice, if possible. In any event, by those numbers, Yonkers is still shy seven officers.

Folks might want to consider having a few Class-1, Div-1 lights on hand for those rare occasions where an explosive gas-air mix might be encountered, such as what could be expected during an "inside gas" call. We don't want our equipment possibly igniting that.

Updated story on LoHud: http://www.lohud.com/article/20090124/NEWS/901240399 Sounds to me like there was a cracked gas main in the street, possibly due to the ground shifting from the frost, and leaking gas got into the sewer system.

Thanks for the update.

Any one have pictures? This is my brother-in-law's business!!!

When you get a chance, email me a copy of the picture file as an attachment so I can check something.

There is no feasible way each LEO can be outfitted with an SCBA for "rescue entry attempt" scenarios. First is the actual cost of the equipment. Every wearer would have to be medically screened and fit-tested annually, in addition there's the mandated initial, quarterly, and annual refresher training. Can't forget the annual equipment flow-testing and maintenance. Where is it going to be stored? The list goes on.

Unacceptable. I have an issue with any union dictating to it's dues paying membership what they can, or rather can't do, off the job on their own free time. Suppose they wanted to forbid other dangerous (legal) activities, like motorcycle racing?

Welcome aboard, Mark.

.....Great memories.....What the Hekawi discussing, anyway ... By the way, it was Sergeant Morgan Sylvester O'Rourke...

Your Chief should know better. ANY injury that happens "on-the-job" no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time, must be reported. It may not even qualify for "first-Aid" and medical treatment can be refused "at this time" but it still needs to be recorded. If something happens "down the road" as a result of the injury and it was not properly documented, Worker's Comp can refuse coverage, plus your own medical insurance might balk at paying claims. Then what?

IIRC, The Mt Kisco based outfit was A-1 Ambulance, back in the 70's. I don't know what happened to them since.

It has nothing to do with if you set up control channel only Site Options programming. If ID search is set, it will pick up any activity in the system, even if you did not load the group. Open your ARC software, in the systems browser pane, highlight Westchester County. Under the Trunk System Parameters tab make sure the scan mode is set to ID scan, not ID search. Once you make any changes, be sure to tick the selection to overwrite the existing system, and upload the updated system to your scanner.

Something else to consider: In the event something "bad" were to happen to an individual wearing an approved respirator in violation of the OSHA facial hair / fit requirements, the department and it's officers responsible for their "employees" safety could be held liable for any injuries to said individual, for allowing improper respirator use. Be responsible for your own safety, and watch out for others, as well.

This looks like a text-book definition of a "good stop" ... given the initial involvement and good utilization of limited resources.

I'm not familiar with the programming nuances of your model, but I have found this site below an extremely valuable resource: http://marksscanners.com/index.html Here is the shortcut to "an easier to read manual" for your scanner: http://marksscanners.com/95/95.html Take your time to become familiar with your model, carefully follow the programming steps, and you should be able to get it scanning in practically no time at all. I am certain there are other members here who will be able to help you further, should you need it.

It's good to see many of the responders have their High-Vis vests on.

Congrat's on getting your engine back home! A lot of work went into it thus far. Now the fun part begins....
