  1. Working fire, 408 Park Hill Ave. http://www.lohud.com/article/20090725/NEWS/907250391
  2. If I remember correctly, Hudson Valley stopped their air and trauma receiving services due to the extreme costs associated with staffing levels for having the required specialists available around the clock. As with everything else anymore, costs are the driving force for providing specialized services, or not.
  3. Speaking of Yonkers, My favorite pizza joint (before moving away) was Capri Pizza, on Lockwood Ave.
  4. A reminder to responders on these jobs: Treat any utility pole involved in an accident as if it were energized, because it could be, even without any visible burning. The pole may be wood, but it can conduct high voltage electricity pretty good, especially when wet. That's why they use insulators for attaching power cables. This particular incident looks more like a primary cable tap burnout rather than transformer "explosion"...You can see the wire feed touching the pole. Still, pretty impressive what high voltage electricity can do! Nice pics, Bill.
  5. I'm not condoning their activities, sanctioned or not, to me it appears to be more like a fire brigade type of thing used exclusively on private property. However if they are going to continue with any fire suppression at all, they obviously need proper equipment and training. Also, I also don't think anyone needs to worry, this unit is not going to go around and geep neighboring department's jobs and just roll in unrequested, to freelance.
  6. Bill, those are a couple of very $erious cameras, and probably give a good bang for the buck. My target price range would be quite a bit less, say tops around a grand, complete. Can you (or someone) give a recommendation in that class? Thanks.
  7. OK, So there was no apparent extrication...Unless there is something I missed in the post, we have no idea as to the extent or nature of the injuries to the patient, or whether they were determined to be life threatening by personnel on the scene. Perhaps the victim was unrestrained and flew around the cabin a few times and landed upside down on the floor in the back seat....unconscious...
  8. WOW....It looks like you had a really great trip!
  9. No personally identifiable membership information, passwords, or email addresses of members was ever at risk. All EMTBravo subscriber information is stored on a completely separate limited access database. You really don't expect these things to happen on what is supposedly considered a "safe" website. This is yet another good example of why it is absolutely necessary to have an up to date anti-virus / security program on your OWN computer. While the impact to the site was essentially limited to one day of posts, if left undetected, the malicious code could have eventually worked it's way in to visitors unsecured computer systems. Once inside YOUR computer, documents, passwords, personal financial information, and much more, could be at risk and made available to these criminals. There are several very effective free anti-virus security software programs out there. You don't necessarily have to buy anything, but paid software generally has many extra features available. If you don't have a personal anti-virus program on your computer, get one. If you do, please make sure it is running properly and up to date.
  10. I'm no lawyer, but a precedent has now been established by the highest court in the land, and those who have been "injured" as a result of any previous racial discrimination can file for relief, and most likely prevail!
  11. While not a landslide, it is a favorable ruling for the aggrieved, and, it could spell a knockout for a certain supreme court nominee.
  12. All government agencies by law are subject to giving the public access to many of their records. Depending on the nature of your request the information may or may not be made available by the agency your request is directed to. Here are some FAQ's from NY State: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/coog/freedomfaq.html
  13. A little bit of wishful thinking: the court will rule in favor of the NH20 and that case will have a significant impact in your favor.
  14. With any luck by the time he gets out the next time, it'll be all gray.
  15. Not only was he suspended for insubordination for refusing to answer his bosses questions about the issue, I'll wager he hurt himself working out during weight training and trying to make the football team, not while on-duty or with his real fire department "job"...
  16. There is a news story about this incident on LoHud.com: http://www.lohud.com/article/20090609/NEWS03/906090363/1019
  17. Hope you have a quick recovery. Get well soon!
  18. The system works, but I can't fathom how "outsiders" (read comments) who are not privy to any testimony whatsoever, people in their own minds are still willing to convict a (not guilty) defendant who was cleared by a jury after a trial, because they don't like the verdict.???
  19. It's perhaps a good thing that the case is moving forward in the Supreme Court right now, considering that Judge SOTOMAYOR, one of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals judges who issued an unusually terse ruling against the NH20 last year, was announced today as Obama's new Supreme Court Justice nomination.
  20. Well put, Cogs. We must always remember those who served our country. Note: image copyright holder unknown
  21. Here's a PDF copy of the press release from Governor Patterson's Press Office regarding the CDL exemption for NY police officers and fire fighters: cdl_Bill.pdf Thanks to Plectron for this info.
  22. I feel for her... but can't quite reach... The money she would waste hiring a lawyer to fight the denial would ultimately go a l o n g way towards future insurance premiums for comprehensive damage coverage, no?
  23. By all means call 911 for an un-located gas leak, unless you actually know it's minor, like a pilot out, or a whiff by an appliance valve or fitting. ConEd will respond someone ASAP, but depending on the workload it could take up to an hour, or even longer, like during storms, etc. Venting a structure that has gone above the atmospheric UEL, (15% gas-in-air mixture) gets to be tricky. Now you absolutely must eliminate ALL ignition sources BEFORE venting. Electric, phone, cable TV, anything that could make a spark. If it didn't blow up on the way up, you can bet it will on the way down. You now also have an IDLH oxygen deficient atmosphere, You have to wear a mask. I was involved with this exact situation a couple of times. Once, on a third-party damage, contractors were pulling a large tree stump with a big excavator and ripped apart a coupling on a 2 inch steel high pressure main and BACKFILLED with the gas blowing. Then they took off! Gas was everywhere, in the sewers, we had elevated readings inside over a dozen houses on either side of the break, the one right next door had over a 70% reading in the crawl space!! Talk about a troubling day.... after all was said and done, we got lucky. It went well, fortunately. I think they arrested the guy who did the deed, he didn't even notify anyone he hit the main!!!!
  24. Here is a short video taken of the gas main fire in Croton caused by an overhead primary electric cable that came down. I could have heated my house for many years on the amount of gas that "leaked"!!!
