  3. This chart is a good visual reminder that we can get into the RED zone very easily. Add exertion and 40 pounds of gear, it gets dangerous, fast. Be safe out there!
  4. It is with deep regret that the BMFD announces the passing of former Fire Chief and Deputy Chief Vincent J. Pancovic. 5. Rest in peace, brother.
  6. The interest level in posting photos has (unfortunately) taken a nose-dive, in part, due to the negative comments about the operations depicted, that almost always seem to find their way into these threads. Many of our members who have posted numerous photos in the past have become jaded from the same, tired comments, about masks and straps and whatnot being worn improperly, and as a result, no longer do so. In fact, a new site policy eliminates public comments in photo threads so they can be more like a gallery, to view without members "input". We are hopeful this policy will encourage those who formerly posted great photos to resume sharing their work.
  7. Something to think about...in many places, poor call coverage happens quite often, even without having active responders and equipment out of town.
  8. Pensions would be unaffected since the funding for that is not under the control of the governor or legislature in the budget process. If the State government DID shut down, state workers, vendors and contractors would not be paid. Medical reimbursements will continue to be funded since that bill was approved last week.
  9. For those not up at Lake George, a reminder, if you can, please make an effort to stop by the firehouse tonight.
  10. 300 arrests? Again, Why was this menace even on the streets? This is insanity. Unbelievable!
  11. Rest in peace, Officer Perry. My Condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers.

  13. Chief, Albert Einstein once said: 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'
  14. I don't get it. I can only wonder why the union found it necessary to interfere with the questioning of one or more of it's members, who may or may not be involved regarding an alleged theft.
  15. Total march distance is about 1.1 miles.

  17. Congratulations to our own Remember585 and his wife, Maureen, on their wedding this weekend!!!! Best wishes, John and Mo!!!
  18. That might be the remnants of USAirways Flight 1549, where the NTSB did their investigation of Captain Sully's "Miracle on the Hudson" bird strike. Great photo opportunity! Do post more shots when you can get into the "belly of the beast" ! Any specs on this? Horsepower, GPM, etc?
  19. Here's a link to the topic in Firehouse.com: http://www.firehouse.com/news/top-headlines/fiery-ricci-speech-pushes-political-courage maybe there's a video clip out there...
  20. The accident report findings sounds more like "posturing" for the inevitable wrongful death / preventable injury lawsuits which are likely in the works, as sure as May flowers follow April showers. As to why firefighters were exempted from seatbelt laws in the first place is a good question.
  21. Diplomatic immunity should NOT be an excuse for leniency. This guy should have been locked up for this stupid stunt, you know that you or I would have been... in a heartbeat. Send this knuckle head back home.

  23. Virtually all of these single story stand-alone fast food establishments are built using inexpensive light-weight truss construction. Good rule of thumb is if the fire has extended outside of the exhaust ductwork and has been working more than ten minutes prior to your arrival, don't even go inside. Odds are very high everyone is already out, anyway. The HVAC air handlers up there on the roof are just waiting to come down. Factor in ice and snow load, depending on location and season.
  24. That's a test of the aerial system hydraulics to make sure check valves hold. When linesman go up in these buckets and start working, they kill the truck's engine, then restart it from the bucket to move around as needed.
