  1. I believe PD mutual aid is not anywhere near as frequent as occurs with FD's. I would think any "mutual-aid" depending on the nature of the request, would come from the nearest available resources, and replenishment would be back filled from the next nearest, and so on, just like what happens with FD.
  2. I wonder if the sudden release of 557.5 cubic feet of steam made any favorable impact on extinguishing the inferno?
  3. I don't get this mayor,... first he states "furious" and threatens to "go after" employees he additionally accuses of "stealing" from the city, then, he expects cooperation from very same guys he laid off, or from officers he demoted that still have jobs, to help him solve his "growing problem"? Talk about some pair of balls.
  4. I missed seeing the original I A on this call but did see a small article in the JN: http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2010311130029 ,Stating two people were hospitalized, not a peep about eight people being evaluated for CO exposure!
  5. Yes, Congratulations, Seth! It has been impressive to follow the growth of the site over the years, as it evolved from an inspiration to host a hobby photo album/news bulletin board (long before blogging became mainstream) to the dynamic online community it is today, with thousands of diverse members of the online forums, and even more visitors ! Bottom line, It's the members that have made the site into what it is today. EMTBravo has become an invaluable resource for breaking news and information for enthusiasts, including sometimes lively discussions where professional and volunteer emergency service personnel can share their unique insights and contribute knowledge on a myriad of topics of interest to many. I'm glad to be a part of the great team working behind the scenes helping to keep things running smoothly, and hope for many more years of continued growth and success for the Site!
  6. The V&T law says "affixed" and there is nothing regarding orientation, front, side, or rear facing. On a POV, the answer is no, however anyone can do whatever they want, and run the risk of being ticketed.
  7. I wasn't trying to generate yet another discussion on light colors permitted on POV's. NYS V&T law is clear on this, and there is no ambiguity: no white, and no red, is permitted for use on non-emergency vehicles. Anyone in violation can be ticketed. That is all. An equipment review forum sounds like a good idea. We'll look into it!
  8. This may have been brought up once or twice before... and I may be wrong but I was under the impression that clear (white) lights are not an approved "color" for a "warning" display on non-emergency vehicles.
  9. One thing is certain, they weren't taken with a cell phone!
  10. A software error is also being investigated regarding potentially incorrect dates for events listed in the calendar highlights viewed on the forum home page. Please check the events calendar itself for individual event information.
  11. Station 2's elevation is such that there is not much higher ground around, so they virtually have line-of-sight signal coverage to their entire district from there. 15 watts will go far enough to do the job of simulcasting the trunked talk over the low band pager freq.
  12. Daylight Savings ends tomorrow 11/07/2010 (Sunday) at 02:00, so don't forget to set your clocks back one hour. Tomorrow will be the longest day of the year, at 25 hours long. For those working the overnight shifts, hopefully your employer pays the extra hour worked, rather than stiffing you out of it!
  13. That was great! LOL
  14. Yorktown residents have spoken three times already, each time saying NO to building a firehouse there, and now we find out the commissioners go ahead and "hide" the money to make it happen. (in plain sight, as it turns out) They could have easily contracted with Millwood for coverage if the need was so pressing, and put the rest of the money to good use elsewhere. Or imagine this: they could have even given it back to the Yorktown taxpayers!
  15. I'm not sure exactly where this came from, but it sure is enlightening. Lesson learned: You never know what will come down that road. Click Image Give it a few seconds to load.
  16. Oh, no, you can't do that, that would be racist. ...While I'm at it, crime cop, that was a great post.
  17. I think it was a few brews that helped this incident along to the tragedy it became...
  18. Further to make life even easier, if you get a subscription over at RadioReference.com, you can directly import their frequency databases into the ARC software, and have it ready to write to the scanner in a few clicks!. Sweet!
  19. BuTel Software has a full feature demo software available. You can build ten systems for free, then you have to buy a key. It's only $40 bucks, and if you're going to be doing this for other people it will pay for itself in no time. http://www.butelsoftware.com/ From the menu on the left, select Software/Uniden/BC246T. The software package for this radio is ARC246
  20. When I was with Briarcliff Manor FD we used a Humat 4-way valve to hit the hydrant for a straight lay in. When the second engine arrived at the hydrant and if pumping the initial line was needed, they simply hooked up, opened the by-pass, then "pumped the hydrant" without interrupting the flow to the initial lay. The valve goes on the hydrant steamer connection and feeds a 2-1/2 ( or whatever size you want) outlet and supplies water once the hydrant is charged. http://www.humat.com/trainingsupport.html
  21. Pace University should hold a vigil for the real victims in this tragedy, and that would be the sworn officers who were almost killed while performing their duties by what turns out to be a legally drunk "designated" driver . So much for looking out for your friends to drive them home safely, by abstaining.
  22. In light of the ongoing financial situation with the site, we would like your input. The bottom line is Seth can no longer afford to dig into his own pocket to pay the bills to run EMTBravo. This poll is to gauge the willingness of members to support the site with an annual subscription, and at what levels. We might ultimately have to go this route to keep the site financially viable, as we go forward in the future. The results will be used by the Staff towards making a final determination of the fate of EMTBravo. Thanks for your participation.
  23. I listed some of the general site expenses earlier, it's probably close to $5,000 a year to operate the Bravo sites including some contingencies. Seth never made a dime for his efforts in 7 years of running EMTBravo. On the contrary, he's spent thousands of his own dollars maintaining this site. Now he can no longer afford to "go south" to pay the bills. And so, just what is the big deal if there was a surplus, after all was said and done? If he makes a few bucks after paying the bills, so what?
  24. With October being National Fire Prevention Month, I would like to share the following, from a pet owner's newsletter that I receive.
