For some reason the general public has a fixation of sorts on the uniformed services, we're different somehow.

I certainly hope that, if in fact the incident happened as alleged, those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We need to remember that these charges are just allegations. Yes, it is ugly. Also keep in mind: It wouldn't be the first time someone filed "charges" against a person(s) that they had a beef with, as retaliation.

Sprint is phasing out the old Nextel iDEN network beginning in 2013, but already has a working PTT, branded Sprint direct-connect, (formerly Qchat) and is featured in certain Sprint CDMA phones. For now it crosses-over and works great (for me) with existing Nextel iDEN customer equipment. When iDEN cell site equipment is retired they'll have to move everyone over, one way or another. I guess people are going to have to buy new phones to continue using PTT service. The upcoming Sprint complete network overhaul is being called Network Vision.

Probably, I bet a bunch of triple-play citations, ie; Seatbelt, cellphone/ AND move-over failure, nevermind the inevitable DUI to come stumbling through...

Ya gotta hand it to criminal defense lawyers for coming up with these doozies while attempting to justifying their client behavior..LOL "the helicopter suddenly flew over his head and into the path of the beam..." um, yeah, right...

Congratulations to Officer Hess, on receiving this prestigious award from his colleagues, well deserved, I might add. Regarding the expected (over)reaction and orchestrated response from the Henry family, que sera sera. Let me go way out on a limb, here, if I may... I often wonder... if anything would have wound up any differently in regards to this entire incident, if the police officers involved with the shooting , were black? Or the alleged assailant, white? I'm going to go out even further... I bet nobody involved in this is going to be having a cold beer with President Obama, anytime soon.

+1 on Meguiar's. Forget about Armorall for tires. I can definitely recommend Meguiar's Gold Class Endurance High Gloss. Looks good and long-lasting. A little bit goes a long way, too.

Most ( if not all ) volunteer firefighters are not given any health coverage by their fire district or municipality, unless it's for an injury or illness that occurs while responding to, or while on a call. Career fire and EMS medical benefits are generally included as a part the employee total compensation package negotiated with the employer. I seriously doubt we will ever see full health coverage apply to volunteers, any time soon. Who would pay for it, anyway?

Impressive collection of vintage photos, Barry. Thanks again for sharing them with us!

The server hosting company has been made aware of the software problem, they're working on it. If posts do show up twice, hit the button and we'll fix it as soon as we can.

They will get on, physically, but they will NEVER be able to forget. This split-second incident that they were thrust into will live on in their minds for ever, no matter what. I pray they can get through that.

I sure do miss the Maxims Valhalla always used to have. I grew up in Valhalla and remember them roaring up the Columbus Avenue hill!!!

It might behoove you to perhaps investigate that further. The water dept may already know what each hydrant is capable of, given the size of the main and the typical pressure based on the elevation and location within the system. Or at least they should. It's just a matter of painting the hydrant bonnet and/or steamer cap accordingly. At a glance you would know what the water supply capacity is available for use when you pull up to a job.

In a rare break from established guidelines regarding discussion of administrative actions taken by site staff, So, exactly why do you want to "support" a member who was caught lying when confronted with indisputable evidence of violating forum rules, then banned for these serious violations?

I used to live near there, I believe the mains up in that neighborhood are perhaps only 4 inch and with the elevation, maybe has @ 60 LBS of pressure available. I forget but I think the orange top hydrant indicates it can flow only up to 500GPM.(?) If there was a break somewhere, even less. That "green" hydrant down on Wolden Rd (If I remember correctly) runs @ 125PSI or even better and delivers over 1000 GPM (?). Maybe someone who knows for sure can tell us what the hydrant color ratings are. Tough job, and tougher conditions.

This video is making the rounds on Facebook, and I'm posting it here in case anyone missed it or does not use FB. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?filter=lf#!/video/video.php?v=1834379662196&oid=155360057819436&comments

Command and dispatch did a fantastic job given the unexpected turn of events. Cool and collected. Good job! My take on what led up to this event is the water main cracked from frost heave and a jet-like stream of water from the water main breach drilled a hole right into the gas main, causing the gas leak. The high pressure gas escaping underground apparently migrated into adjoining buildings and ignited. The result was caught on video.

Trustee Zollo apparently has little to no regard for village employees or their uniformed services. To utter a remark that the PD Union was "grandstanding" in it's request for confined space awareness training is patently absurd. Then to ramble on about DPW workers steel toe boots...... coupled with other remarks he's made.....I'm speechless.
