These days EVERYONE's middle name is SUE, and they have the Law Offices of Dewey, Screwum and Howe on retainer..

First of all my condolences go out to the family.. I read in one of the articles that they believe the 5yr old broke his neck, as an EMT it looks to me from the pictures that the vehicle didnt hit that hard to cause a whiplash effect that should have broken his neck. Does anyone else have experience with this type of tramatic injury in what appears to be a fairly simple accident?

Chris, BLS4 is covering the same general area that Medic 4 covers (Brewster, Put Lake, Patterson)

I work in Mid-Town, this is just the tip of the iceberg. It isnt just the NYPD that needs policing of the placards. The city should be looking at all the agencies issuing placards, including the diplomatic parking. Most of these people think it is a free ride to park wherever and whenever they want.. I have seen cars not only at hydrants, but bus stops, and even parked on the curbs.. "You improperly park, you loose the placard"

Nice Pics... If memory serves, wasn't there a similar monter fire truck somewhere in montrose?? Near the VA I think..

Even worse, some of these stations jacked up the price before adding the 10-12 cent CC surcharges.. "Mr station owner: I am sorry that your profit margin sucks these days.. but the guy down the street is charging less with no surcharge" SEE YA !!!!

Doesn't Brewster have enough calls on I-84 without this guy on the road?? http://www.wnbc.com/news/16722371/detail.html

Thanks ny10570, I thought they had a better system of actual location, verus thier default location.

No excuse... Last time I checked Manhattan is 26+ miles long.. If they didn't know where it was located why dispatch it to midtown? I am sure the system (guess ) that it shows an area the vehicle is located/stationed (harlem, westside, battery park, etc) Would a truck down at wall street normally be sent to a job on 55th street? Did NYPD ask for a status, while dodging the traffic?? Did another unit get free in the 51 minutes it took for this one to get there?

In most cases if you are operating within range of a major highway in Westchester, Putnam or Southern Dutchess, you are probably going to get the pt to WCMC as quickly or quicker than by air. The view may be nice, but with the current fuel costs it is probably $6-8000 these days. Make sure it is warranted, I have heard of insurance companies bouncing the expense as unneeded, leaving your pt with a pain in the neck/back and wallet. None of the area helicopters will ever complaint that they were placed on standby and cancelled. Get the crew together while enroute to the scene if needed, make the decison to launch when you have a full picture.

1. Assume nothing. 2. Veribilze everything you are doing to the proctor. 3. Be sure to use the helper provided at each station. Good Luck.. 15 yrs as an EMT and still learning on every call..

I was not there so I cant be certain, but the FDNY ambulance has windows and the medic didnt show up in a yugo, they showed up in an ambuilance with lots of lights.. If they were knocking on the door I kinda gotta lean towards they ignored them and took off...

Is there some record these people are trying to achieve?? "100th person to jump in 2008".. I can't remember this many cases of people trying to end it all on the TZB in such a short period of time..
-
Skip the fence and keep the view.. How about installing the safety netting used when they maintain the bridge?? If they jump, they wont go far, but like it was mentioned if the person is determined to 'end it all' they will find a way.. I was told in a psycology class that a if a suicidal person has made the determination that thier life means nothing, they dont care who else they take with them to get the job done..

My condolences to the family and fellow department members. 30 is quite young, was he ill?? RIP

That is the problem, people see the time when the ambulance arrived and complain it took 20 minutes to get the ambulance, without realizing the pt was being cared for 10 minutes before they arrived. Giving the incorrect impression that the patient waited the 20 minutes for care when they didn't. As most EMS people will attest, transport is a priority in very few calls. Having the pt being evaluated and treated, can also minimize the need for an ambulance to rush lights and siren to a scene that is already under control.

I have seen many new ambulances going for the multiple box lights up front instead of a lightbar, any reason??

Real simple, leave your personal preference of Paid/Volley at the door! Do The Job.. If you have qualified personel, use them. It doesn't matter to the person underwater if they get a paycheck or not.., but if the LT makes a decision to not use an available volley resource, it certainly will be affecting thier paycheck.

You can make the numbers sound as good or bad as you want or need them to be to prove your point of view. Perception by the patient is always going to be longer than the real time.. It was mentioned about 'time to get treatment to a patient', this number is alway going to be a gray area. What time should be used: We have EMD dispatchers Did they start care?, We have Flycar medics, Does their scene time indicate care started? We have members like myself (EMT) that will respond to a scene with gear if closer than building, does the clock stop once I arrive? Or does it wait until the ambulance arrived, I know when I get times for the call from Putnam911 it is the time the ambulance got on scene, not the 10 min before that myself and possibly the medic arrived.. Just the above could be as short as 2 minutes, or 20+ minutes if you are waiting for a Mutual aid ambulance. Did the patient get treated as quickly as possible, YES!!! Do the numbers always show that, NOPE!!!

Not knowing the reason or cause for this firefighters death, I can only think LODD. But eitherway LODD or non duty related, this person deemed the respect from his fellow members and departments. if a dept from 20 miles away felt they needed to be represented, then fine with me. For all I know he was a member of that dept at some point in life, many members on this board have or currently belong to multiple agencies during thier career.
-
I think a "sick out" of the volunteers might shake up the board a bit, let the jobs go mutual aid. Unfortunately the membership and public will lose out long before the board will take action.. As it was memntioned before maybe the members need to go public or hit the road if they feel that it's not safe with the current officers. I am sure a sever decline in membership will wake up the board as they will be forced to look at the situation

1. Verbalize EVERYTHING!, Don't make any assumptions. 2. Use the partner they give you at each station, be sure to tell them exactly what/how you want it done.

The exterior shots of this car are great, over the top is more like it.. Any pics of interior setup ???

The holder is a great thing.. especially in a house where the stairs are real tight. (last thing you need is to rip the o2 mask off the pt going down a stairs, because the person with the tank cant stay close enough)..

Off topic, I guess my parking rates at croton are going up again
