http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/2013/May/13/Dean_arr-13May13.htm So we have the first (publicized) local arrest for violating the "SAFE" act. The man had 9 rounds instead of 7 in his magazine. Oh my ! Must be a dangerous person ! Several police agencies have come out against this act and have said they would not enforce it. The NYSP has been silent on the issue. I guess now we know whose side they're on.

Maybe the government can stop the charades trying to say this was a "lone" act, find out who was financing the terrorists and get the money from them.

You know, I had almost forgotten that by the choice of one's career, certain people are entitled to special priviledges that the rest of us peons are not. Really? Because there are some assinine laws, rules, and regulations that prevent us regular people from being able to protect and defend ourselves, we shouldn't be allowed to take any measures? This bs that because I'm "law enforcement" I'm better than you really needs to stop.

Once again, the NY Propane Gas Association in conjunction with the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC), is hosting the Industry Responder's Conference at the State fire academy in Montour Falls June 11-12, 2013. I went to the one they had in 2011. A lot of good information. It was just after the Hoosick Falls incident and several of the first responders that were at that incident were there. They also had an investigator from the Chemical Safety Board involved with the Ghent, WV incident there as well. I hope to be able to attend this one as well.

I'll be sure to run right out and register my newly defined "assault weapons".

From what I was told by an SP friend, (several years ago), NYSP were allowed to put CB radios in their assigned cars with supervisor permission as long as they purchased them and had them installed by an SP authorized installer. I once spoke to a Trooper on Ch 19 when I used to run the road. As a side note, the old walkie-talkies we had as kids were the same frequency as CB ch 14.

My guess is it is related to narcotics issues. This is not the first time for them. When they were Empire State Ambulance they were shut down (for ALS) because of issues with this. They fixed whatever the problem was and had ALS privileges reinstated.

Yes, that is the STATED aim. However, Until these measures take effect, I am not, nor have I ever been, a criminal. I would not consider myself, although others may disagree, mentally/emotionally unstable. So why am i prohibited from owning certain firearms that are apparently more dangerous because of the way they look? I can be trusted to handle/possess/transport high explosives but not to put more than 7 bullets in a gun? WTF!?!

If you can find them. I've been looking since November and have only been able to find a few for what I don't have. For the other one I used to have, I don't think they make them anymore. Not sure if it would meet the 50 yr rule or not but doesn't matter. Still wouldn't register it if I still had it.

Do you really think that the gov and his henchmen are interested in the constituion? Their recent actions and comments would suggest not. The "assault weapon" I used to own was made in the 60's. One of the magazines was made in 1920. The others were WW2-Korean war era. In the 20 years that I owned it, it never killed anything but paper and a few cans and bowling pins. Suddenly it is evil.

yes but because you are a law abiding citizen, you either reloaded 3 times or have at least 3 7round magazines. You need to remember that Cuomo's original call was for CONFISCATION. Don't believe for a second that his goal has changed. Why else register and ban the transfer of "assault" weapons? This is so the state knows who has them. Makes it a whole lot easier to knock on your door and "ask" you to give them up. It'll be real interesting to see how many actually register out of the thousands that are said to exist in this state. The reason this was rushed through was so that no one could have a chance to read it. This bill is 78 pages. We are only beginning to find out what is in it. Cuomo used his executive powers to circumvent the state constitution which requires a 3 day aging period for new legislation. This was done so that the legislature and the public would not have a chance to review it. Some legislatures complained they had less than 20 minutes to look at the bill before the vote. Mental health? How about requiring prospective owners to undergo psychological testing, from a state sponsored psychiatrist, at a substantial cost, to see if you are fit to own a firearm (in the eyes of the state). It's coming. You're an LEO? You think you will be exempt? Think again. Mmm... Sounds like some Eastern European countries where it might take you 5 years to get state permission to own a single shot shotgun with limited amounts of state approved ammunition. And guess what? With all the restrictions, rules, taxes, etc. the bad guys still have guns.

The refurb was only to get us another 10 yrs or so. Personally, it wasn't worth it and it should have been replaced then.

Orange Lake Fire District, comprised of Dan Leghorn Engine and Winona Lake Engine companies. I believe the bid is to replace E-326 and 320. 327 and 322 will likely be replaced in a couple years. Or they may replace them 1 at a time over the next few years. The original bids were rejected (Pierce and KME) and specs rewritten.

Winona Lake (T/Newburgh) 485. No EMS. Down from previous years. Does not include 29 runs by our members who went to Long Island for Sandy.

Not that I often go on parkways, but it always amazed me that my pick-up, with 4 doors and a covered bed has to be registered as commercial and therefore is not permitted on parkways, but if I drove a much larger H2 or Expedition, I would be allowed.
-
That's because there is no rational explanation. Even if somehow they determine a motive, I don't believe anyone would consider it rational.
-
Mmm... not what I said. Not sure where you got that from.

The firearms used, 2 handguns, were legally purchased, owned and REGISTERED to a LICENSED person. They were stolen after that person was murdered. Like most politicians, several people will have knee jerk reactions to this senseless act carried out by a mentally disturbed individual. They will call for all kinds of new laws and regulations when the ones we have still mean nothing the criminal. So China should ban knives. We should make it illegal to own and drive cars because some people choose to drink and drive and kill others. What would you have us do, ban all private ownership of firearms? Have the government confiscate them? The ONLY thing that is keeping what is left of our constitution intact is the Second Amendment. Without it, and what it provides, the rest of the amendments and the rest of the Constituton stand no chance of surviving for long. Gov Huckabee said it correctly as have many others in the past. We, as a nation, have pushed God from our schools, work, politics, sports, and just about every aspect of our lives. And then we wonder where He is when something like this happens. "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts,....murders....: All these evil things come from within... ." Mark 7:21,23. My condolances to the many who have suffered loss this tragic day. You will be in my prayers.

It's a shame that drivers/officers can't just use common sense based on dispatch information. Some calls that I don't see automatically requiring a Code 3 response: Mulch fire in a parking lot, PD on scene of a PDAA requesting a washdown, 2nd and subsequent apparatus responses to small fires reported to be out, mmm... those are just a few that readily come to mind.

Before the new standards for NYS took effect, the "I" class was about 200 hrs plus clinical time. The problem I found here in the Hudson Valley area is the class is rarely offered and refreshers have been non-existant.

State to local governments... This is the most (tax cap) you can spend, but you need to pay these bills (unfunded mandates) first.

When we used to do EMS calls we were dispatched along with EMS to cardiac calls. When we stopped regular response to EMS calls, we were still. on occassion, called when EMS was delayed. With multiple years of having an anti-ems administration (chiefs), we only have 2 active members that are CPR/AED qualified. Having given up our BLSFR status and state number, not having a medical director, and no trained members, we have removed all but basic first-aid equipment from our apparatus. In our district, if you or a loved one is having a heart attack, you better hope that it is between 6a-6p when the paid volly crew is on, or that MLSS actually has a crew in town and didn't pull them to cover a contracted area. Good luck getting one of the 3 or 4 PD that might be available if they're not tied up on something else. None of the 5 FD's in our town respond to EMS calls.

And recently, a paid departments "first choice" of mutual aid from a "neighboring" paid department arrived on scene AFTER the volly departments that had also been called m/a were standing by in dept A's quarters. And just so no one thinks that I think our s*** don't stink, we currently have one of the most rediculous and assinine m/a plans in the county.
