x635, The prop cars are here for transport for use in Boston. The company that fabricated them is located in Red Hook section of Brooklyn. They will be towed to Boston when needed. Not sure if they will fake any Boston scenes down here. Regardless, at least none of the film is being shot in Canada. NY State does stand in for other places, believe it or not. Parts of Brooklyn doubled for Boston in Howard Stern's "Private Parts" just to name one example. NYC and NY State are offering financial incentives to filmmakers.
-
x635, Because some of it takes place in the NYC area. And even if they fake some of Boston down here, it benefits the film community in general. Hope they shoot in Yonkers and Westchester. Will post later if I find out any location information. Looks like "Freedomland" is returning to the school on Ashburton Avenue used last week as a New Jersey police precinct. Happy Memorial Day to all

Steve, what you saw at the diner was filming of "Freedomland" not "The Departed." Both films are using production offices at 291 Tuckahoe Road. x635--If you can, take pictures of YPD Foam Unit and L71 being auctioned and are now parked on the Yonkers Avenue entrance at Yonkers Raceway. Other people are curious about these two rigs being auctioned next month. Thanks Dr. Zuki

It's for Martin Scorcese's "The Departed" about Boston gangsters and they are filming now in Brooklyn and will be going back and forth to Boston to also film. Not sure if they are shooting in Yonkers and/or elsewhere locally. Anybody finds out, please post. Happy Memorial Day

bucket2005, Were you there Tuesday night? I was, yes it was pretty wild with the fires and smoke. They are filming down the street in the Armory on North Broadway which the city uses for it's PAL program. Not sure where else in Yonkers they will be.
-
billo647, Thanks for the reply. What do you mean when you say "You may want to keep YPD F3 on a -5." ???? I do have the BC785. Thank You.
-
There is also a YFD foam truck up for auction. See yonkerspd.com for auction info and vehicle listings. The better vehicles get put out the day of inspection.
-
Noticed a few radio cars with a black, round, gps device on the trunk. Guessing they are experimenting with GPS systems to monitor radio cars on patrol.
-
Truck 4, Thanks for the reply. So what are those round, black things seen on some, not all, trunk area on some marked radio cars???
-
The blackberrys are for undercover cars only because MDT antennas are too big and obvious. What I saw looks like other GPS device-round, flat, black in color, resembles a stick on air freshener.

I have the BC785 digital scanner which obviously picks up analog county signals. Not sure if digital even uses PL's or DPL's.this scanner

Was visitng Belmont last Saturday for the Kentucky Derby and during the Belmont races, their own ambulance always followed the race horses from the starting gate to finish line. Is this a mandated requirement? If so, why would it not apply at Yonkers Raceway? And any injuries incurred with harness racing would likely be more serious due to the harness wheels and equiment used at Yonkers. Happy Weekend

Be careful taking photos in high crime neighborhoods like parts of southwest Yonkers. The drug dealers and company may suspect you are photgraphing them, or some other the other myriad of illegal, open activities conducted everyday. I actually saw drug dealers out very early last Saturday morning on Linden Street and Oak Street off Elm in Yonkers. This also hold true for certain NYC areas like Little Italy, etc populated by the real life Sopranos. And there are no photography signs posted on the George Washington Bridge.

An actor friend tipped me off yesterday as to how the series ends during the May 6the final episode. Do you want me tell you ??????? And althought he ratings were good, the network wants the time slot for their latest Law and Order series.

billfitz, Thanks for the information. Why wouldn't the YPD have the responsibility of checking that streets are not blocked? Only they can issue summonses anyway. And does the film crew have to pay the city for the presence of the fire officer? Los Angeles charges film crews to do so.YPD charges $68.00 an hour for Rent A Cop. I have seen many film shoots in Yonkers where no fire officer was present. And the film crews have a dangerous habit of blocking fire hydrants with unmanned vehicles in violation of the vehicle and traffic law. When "The Preacher's Wife" shot on Elm Street, there was a fire on nearby Walnut Street and YFD response was hampered due to film trucks blocking both sides of an already narrow street. Some film guy rescued a girl from a window after pulling down burglar bars while standing on a step ladder. "Freedomland" retuns on Monday night to St. Joseph's Avenue. Prop NJ RMP's are parked now in Grant Park nearby. Happy Weekend

Since it's a riot scene, they are probably lighting small fires and/or shooting off firearms, etc., thereby requiring YFD oversight....
-
Are you sure it was the fire band, and not the cops? The cops assigned to filming this week and last on "Freedomland" are calling themselves the movie detail on YPD channel 3. Filming for 15 days in the AshburtonAve-St. Joseph's Avenue area at night. Unless maybe somebody from YFD is assigned to this movie or another one where they are required due to pyrotechnics being involved. Anybody know please???
-
Tonight until about 10PM, the feature film "Freedomland" is filming at New Rochelle Fire HQ. A prop New Jersey marked Impala cop car is parked outside. Unknown if stars Julianne Moore and Samuel L. Jackson will be there today.
-
Steve, See imdb.com for a detailed story synopsis.
-
OOPS! It should be Yonkers General Hospital for the filming, not St. Joe's
-
Good Luck is right !!! Hopefully the filmmakers were wise enough to hire enough Yonkers cops for the upcoming race riot scene. The city charges $68.00 for it's rent a cop program. But as an act of good faith, filmmakers usually hire a few locals whenever they shoot in high crime, inner city neighborhoods like Ashburton. Am guessing they may use St. Joesph's Hospital for Julianne Moore's scene seeking treatment for her carjacking near the "Armstrong Projects." YPD: Stay Safe on set !!!
-
They were filming yesterday at Red Fox Diner in Elmsford on Route 9A then moved to Ashburton Avenue in Yonkers last night near St. Joseph's Hospital and the side streets leading to Mulford Gardens projects. Are returning there all of next week.

Great idea but big money developers will get this concept defeated. Everytime there is a tragedy in NYC, they talk about upgrading the fire codes and never follow through like the time the firefighters died in that Queens hardware warehouse and remember all the talk after Sept 11 about making building owner's pay for repeaters? It all fades into the wind, big money always seems to get it's way unfortunately....
-
I didn't hear anything else about the Yonkers filming. Go to imdb.com and enter the film title for story information and cast listing...

901, Thanks for the great photos. They may also film at the church on the corner of Elm Street and Walnut which was also used in "The Preacher's Wife" several years back. Tell me if you hear about any other Yonkers locations, I work as a backround extra. Scorcese's "The Departed" is also using the Tuckahoe Road stages.
