Saw them at the Texas Avenue fire and wondered if they respond to all fires or just multiple alarm fires where people need to be relocated? Once, and only once, I heard their director on the air as 92 car. I know their Civil Defense volunteers do lighting for crime scene searches for many years now.

Somebody on Central Avenue, Yonkers, southbound was clocked I believe doing 100 mph or so coming out ot the Tuckahoe Road overpass. This was a couple years back. Ther troopers are way short staffed and have little coverage on the entire Sprain Brook Pkwy.

No kidding, but will pepper spray work on a coyote should there be an unavoidable confrontation??? A fox was photographed in a wooded Yonkers area between McIntyre Street and Parkview Avenue recently. Wild turkeys seen on the Sprain Pkwy near Central Avenue and on the Hutch in Scarsdale.

Just a warning if you are buying another car: Hondas and Camrys seem to be the most stolen in Yonkers and the surrounding areas of lower Westchester. Add Acura Integras also. These three cars are great, but just be warned the car thieves absolutely love them.

Third Watch Precinct: It looks like a facade and not a real building. I believe some of the other precinct shots are actually the back of the Warner Brothers Studio at 196 Diamond Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Pixxcars.com is a larger supplier than is movietimecars.com as mentioned above. Movietimecars.com had a bunch of them out on Saturday and Sunday at the Library on 42nd and Fifth Avenue for a TV pilot "The Traveller" with the library faked as a museum. Engine 86 from Third Watch was there. Sorry I had no camera.

It is especially disturbing to see this behavior occuring above I-287. And I say that as everybody in the lower urban areas of our county believes that moving "upstate" is the cure all in escaping from all of urban problems found in cities like Yonkers, Mount Vernon, etc. This generation has become way to desensitized to violence that is way, way overboard and increasingly graphic. These video games like "Grand Theft Auto" and others are absolutely appalling. Yet there is no condemanation from any medical and/or mental health organizations. Sequels to "Saw" and "Hostel" were announced this week, both of which promise even more graphic slayings. God help us all !!!

You can have a situation where is caller is from out of town and simply reads off of the nearest street signs, many of which are incorrect because they use postal, not official addresses like the many signs on the Bronx River Parkway for "Crestwood" or portions of Greenburgh with Scarsdale postal address on the entire length of Central Avenue. Who, not knowing better, would even think that North White Plains is actually North Castle ??? Or this entire other maze of overlapping school districts. Port Chester middle school i actually located in Rye Brook, yet somebody from out of town calling 911 would assume to call Port Chester PD or FD in an emergency. The Greenburgh multiplex theater is in Elmsford, yet Greenburgh PD handles calls there. How would Joe Public reasonably know this when callling for the first time? Bottom Line: Have precinct phone numbers stored in your cell phone and paper phone book just in case.

Can anybody please recommend an area subscriber buff network for a friend in the media who wants to get YFD and PD calls instead of buying a scanner?? Remembered seeing this posted on the defunct Fordyce site. I think one was called Breaking News Service or something similar? What do they typically charge per month and the cost of the pager is ??? P.S.--The smoke from Ground Zero was visible from Palmer Road in Yonkers near the golf course where it splits with Fortfield Avenue. And I still cannot believe it happened no matter how many times the tape is played. Ex Yonkers councilman Ed Fagan worked for the Port Authority in the trade center and stayed home that day...several other friends saw the second plane hit.

Rescue3, City Hall, and only City Hall, are the only ones issuing press releases which includes the YFD and every other agency. That is why Pagano and company absolutely cannot say anything further and likely have not been apprised of what is going on with the developers. It will all come out as the process goes on....nobody is trying to hide anything... Watch Amicone's state of the city address Wednesday night on cable or the telecast on cityofyonkers.com and maybe he will address future YFD issues like the HQ status and traning center. A text of the speech might also be posted thereafter on the city website. Remember the old saying "A watched pot never boils" ...the same holds true here with the above..... Stay Warm

P.S.--I would also hope that the Alexander Street development project can include a facility on the waterfront for both the YFD and YPD rescue boats and accessories. Hopefully this will be suggested by the bosses in the above two departments early on in the process, not after it is built and completed. And let the developers pay based on all of the corporate welfare involved with these projects. Happy Weekend to all...

But when the stadium was last proposed, a new HQ was included in the structure. This time, it looks like the developer expects the city to build it themsleves along with too many other costly infrastructure improvements for the entire project. And I doubt the City Council will agree to giving away so much to a developer who in return is paying for nothing along with seeking too many tax abatements. Regardless, you may see a new YFD HQ someday. Question is will the city or a developer pay for it. Or maybe the city will renovate the exisiting structure and alter the developer's plans. It's all very early on in the entire process. Time will tell.....and the YFD likely has not even been apprised of much of this, that is why they won't say anything publicly....they just don't know at this time.

The Journal News says nothing about a new YFD HQ. But the black and white rendering shows the project extending over the exisitng YFD HQ which was also to replaced in the mid 1970's when Ginsburg-Taubman was trying to build a shppoing mall in Chicken Island and beyond. That is why the city bought and leveled much of the Palisade Avenue stores abutting Chicken island. YonkersR3 may have moved north , but his heart is still here and if he's anxious to know, what's so terrible about that ?? You can take the kid out of Yonkers, but you can't take Yonkers out of the kid..... The stadium will likley not be built, but a revised project with a large amount of retiail will still need the space occupied by YFD HQ. If not, somebody else could come along wanting to convert it into condos. Imagine years from now seeing Yuppies, tofu in hand, entering YFD HQ. It's no so far fetched either. There also is a possibly that somebody will want to have the building landmarked, and it's a relatively easy process to accomplish. Maybe somebody can email Capelli and ask or just email David Simpson, the Mayor's new press secretary 914-377-6000. One thing for sure, the increased population coming to Yonkers over the next few years will require a rethinking of current fire dept manpower. Happy Weekend

Regarding repair guys..... a cousin of mine fixes water heaters, etc. One of his asssistants came to do mine and we later noticed a valuable tool missing which was later returned upon calling my cousin. A mob guy from Westchester owns a flooring company.......are you sure you can trust strangers??? What about burned out apartments looted by repair crews.... Homeowners on Brookside Circle, Yonkers do a block sale with homes opened to strangers and are later burglarized.....these kids reading Con Edison meters look innocent who come into my basement.....I later get told that one of them robbed another kid of his belongings....not a bully incident either, but a felony robbery charge......a cable tv repair guy returns to a Bronx River Rd apt to rape a former repair customer.....so think about it when you let strangers in.....I wish it were otherwise though.

Just as an aside to portable and base scanners.....when not in use please be sensible about keeping them secure in the event of a burglary. Over the years too many scanners have gotten into the wrong hands this way and I personally treat mine as if it were a firearm. Imagine knowing a burglar has gotten hold of it....years back a volunteer firemen friend of mine left his portable scanner under the seat of his car and it was stolen. Police frequencies were programmed into it.... And when strangers visit your home such as repair guys, etc., I wouldn't even let them see a scanner period. No need to educate people of unknown character....too many crime films have been showing perps using scanners and that's a bad thing regardless of whether or not it's factual. But there still are many perps unaware of scanners, so don't educate them please.

10:30 today a city hall press conference will announce revised plans for massive downtown redevelopment including the previously proposed stadium that was to include a new YFD HQ. If the stdium portion of the plan is withdrawn, then so is the new YFD HQ. Check yonkerstribune.com and thejournalnews.com later this morning for details.

Yonkerstribune.com has started a crime incident thread. So please post on it. They are trying to make up for all the non coverage of criminal incidents by what's left of the Journal News. If something close by happens that may migrate to Yonkers, please post. Example: a burglary team operating in nearby Greenburgh, Bronxville, etc. Many Thanks. The public reads few incidents in the paper and is lulled into a false sense of security. P.S.---No kidding, Yonkerstribune.com gets 100K hits a day on average. They did have an interesting discussion about the water rescue in the Hudson River.

In particular, all the ones never appearing in the newspaper that affect us, burglaries, car thefts, muggings, etc. It's just a supplement to this board which is only read by buffs, while Yonkerstribune.com is read by the public at large. One very, very interesting tip about a new gang was just posted on it. So it may also evolve into a tip line for people who may not want to pick up the telephone. And that's a major tool for the cops... The site averages 100K hits per day. And some FEDS happen to look at it for good reason too. Thank You.
