How much for the apartment upstairs at the Candelight? Looks cozy!!

Was on a Sunday drive in Stamford yesterday and wondered, besides cell companies, who uses the antenna tower located behind 76 Progress Drive close to the Putnam Avenue Stop and Shop? What about the tower on the south end close to the Long Island Sound? And thirdly, in Greenwich next to the Merritt Parkway northbound close to the lake? I don't know the official name of that body of water and do not answer any of the above if it involves any sensitive data. I used to work in Stamford for many years and two co workers joined the PD in the mid 1990's. Any Stamford MOS on this site?? Send me a private message please. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Besides the massive congestion, the other major beef about Ridge Hill is that it wasn't going to be paying full taxes and too many needless abatements were being granted. And the new fire company proposed is being paid for by the city, not the developer who will only build the structure. Nobody wants to tell how much the taxpayers will pay for the staffing and equipment either. Every developer nowadays is looking for the taxpayers to be there unofficial partner. The end result in Yonkers is a tax roll worth less and less every year. They never tell you this, they only say "We brought in x millions of dollars in new development" This applies to all projects in every community. Also note, after the abatements are given, many property owners successfully challenge their assessments and win tax certoriari cases thereby lowering their property taxes paid. Guess who makes up the difference ??? Stop the corporate welfare !!! Not sure of the start dates for the projects except for Cross County Center to begin Spring 2007. They built in the mid 1950's, no giveaways or abatements. Now they want the city to subsidize their project. Why ? Paramus, NJ has every retailer in America, including the most successful mall in the entire state ( Garden State Plaza) and they give zero abatements and giveaways. Nobody can argue me on that one either. The town demographics are irrevelant. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

kingsixx, Did you get my private message yesterday in response to this?

They were hoping to begin Ridge Hill construction sometime in 2007 and it was approved by the City Council. The Tuckahoe Road access road for this project ( near the sleaze hotel) is nothing short of a disaster waiting to happen if it's built. The stadium will likley be dropped from the downtown retail project due to financial problems with the money they want from the city. As an alternative location, the racetrack did not want it on their property.

Beautiful, well written posting and once a municipality goes to bid on new rigs, that and everything thereafter is a matter of public record based on both state and federal law. It's your right to know, period... And now that Pataki has made it much easier to recoup legal fees in Freedom of Information Law cases, a whole new era has emerged for the citizens of this state. It's funny how some on this board may be secretive about new rig details, yet the day of delivery, the Mayor and others will be standing there for a wonderful photo opportunity.
-
The ballpark will likley not be built, but the rest of the retail project will and it will succeed like the similiar ones in both Port Chester and Mount Vernon. Check out the new apartments on the waterfront that rent for over $1K per month and it was only a few short years ago that the only people down there were the crack whores. Walk onto North Broadway where it begins at Getty Sqaure and you'll see two loft buildings occupied by Yuppies, dogs and tofu in hand. So, the area is slowly coming back. Check out Pierview Restaurant on the waterfront some night, it's beautiful and the young people are there in droves during the nicer weather. And believe it or not, Trump has made it clear that he wants to be involved in one of the waterfront skyscapers going up at the bottom of Prospect Street next to the "Sugar House" ( Refinded Syrups). FYI on the raceway safety issues: When I visited last week, I noticed an on duty Yonkers fire fighter on site. Too bad the newspaper writer didn't mention this key point yesterday. The state troopers aren't there yet. Next time you visit Cross County, look in the window of any vacant store and see the diagram of the renovation and expansion.
-
Ridge Hill is in court and Judge Zambelli is trying to work out a settlement over traffic issues between Yonkers and Greenburgh. The raceway casino is partially opened and doing way, way better then expected without the owner's even advertising in the media. The downtown plans are being presented to the City Council this week. This is the developer's site: www.sfcyonkers.com for photos and you can email any questions to them. The renovation and expansion of Cross County Center is currently in the review process for a possible start in the spring of 2007. www.cityofyonkers.com has many extensive downloadable documents on the above projects, or you can flip through the hard copies at the public library reference desk. My key point is although the city will touting the dollar value of all this new development, nobody is noticing that the steady tax abatements are eroding the total city assessment roll. The new police commissioner begins his first day next Friday.

YonksFF, Look on Mrofficespace.com and you will see the N Valley building listed for sale. And I never ripped anybody on this board on YonkersTribune.com which happens to get a million hits a year for good reason and I hope you contribute to it, including any suggestions to improve local government. The editor is a close friend and would gladly accept any EMS related piece you may wish to write. Kindly note that the mayor has implemented a suggestion format on cityofyonkers.com and the YFD website also asks for comments and suggestions for good reason. Sometimes there is a problem with the civil service culture being a bit too insular and never open to change and introspection. Some are in the positions for too many years and have never worked in other ocupations. This is what Bratton found that was wrong in the entrenched NYPD management culture. Charlie Cola acknowledged this to me as well. His father as councilman suggested the YPD K-9 detail many years back and was told it was not feasible in Yonkers, believe it or not. You can come to my job and show me a thing or two and I am open to that. I won't say "You never worked in the XYZ industry and don't know squat" Everybody is entitled to their opinion in Yonkers, including citizens and taxpayers, regardless of whether or not they are members of the service. Right or wrong, this includes placement of a radio room. Don't take it so personal. Just remember the OEM move to 7 World Trade Center. And you never know when you may need certain longtime activists in your corner for various reasons. ( Such as writing letters of support when seeking a commissioner's position) Look at the gun buy back program, that was created based on a citizen suggestion. And it was my suggestion years back to put a repeater at the Seminary and I was told it was not being considered by a past YPD radio room Captain. A former classmate and YPD fleet services guy who worked on radios agreed. Surprise!!! Look up and you now you see the repeater. Question: Is there a problem in Yonkers with door latches on Seagrave rigs? Saw that FDNY has this problem and don't know if the media account is accurate... Thanks and Stay Safe.
-
This issue will be brought to the attention of the new YPD Commissioner being named possibly today. It would be an incredibly stupid move to shift the radio room to the N Valley building which the city wants to sell.
-
P.S.---and the city is trying to sell the N Valley building on Mrofficespace.com. (No period between Mr and office.) So why waste time and money relocating to it???????
-
Heard, unconfirmed, that the Yonkers PD and FD radio room at Police HQ may be relocated to the city N Vallley Building on Nepperhan Avenue @Axminster Street. What would be the possible rationale for this? Maybe they fear a terrorsist attack of Police HQ ? But this N Valley building is way, way less secure than the present HQ. FYI: They do have an alternative back up radio room, but the location is ultra secret. Thanks and Happy Haloween.
-
Don't know, but the developer has been very open about holding meetings with the public, so drop them an email with your suggestions as I strongly believe the ballpark will be wisely dropped from this project and extra space may be available. The only drawings of this project are on patriciamcdow.com and they are vague at this point. The developer plans to divulge everything in November regarding this massive project. I would like to see the YFD emblem put on the outside of the building similiar to NYC Board of Education symbol placed on the exterior of many schools. It's a nice touch. And since this is part of an office building, the front will likely be nice architecturally. Most important is that the YFD have full input regarding the new faciltity. Let's have the most state of art building possible. Have heard nothing about a training center that I highly doubt it is part of this project.

As per Joe Apicella, Vice President of Cappelli Enterprises, the new Yonkers Fire HQ will be located at the corner of Nepperhan Avenue and New Main Street as part of a new 40,000 square foot office building being contructed with the retail center in adjoining Chicken Island parking area. This is written up in today's Westchester County Business Journal. Hopefully the online version will appear later today or tomorrow at westchestercbj.com. The story is contained in the article about Ridge Hill. I was hoping maybe the existing HQ could somehow be rehabilitated and incorporated into the new retail project. Hate to see that piece of YFD history demolished, but who knows? Maybe it will end up landmarked and saved. Also, the city hall annex nearby at 87 Nepperhan Avenue is being demolished along with the city hall garage for another office structure. Happy Labor Day to all.

Once again, just make a Freedom of Information Request to examine the bid or requests for proposals for the new radio system to see what they bought in full detail. It's a matter of public record.
-
Look at the bid documents ( public record) for the new radio system to see full details. Somebody on this board months back said they had optional encryption with their current system, but disabled it for reasons unknown. With the new system, are all channels to be encrypted? Many systems elsewhere only encrypt some frequencies leaving others in the clear. Are they ever going to civilianize the three wasted cops that direct traffic on Greenwich Avenue??? Just look at how effectively it was done in NYC. Thanks and Stay Cool.

Yonkers DPW ran out of barricades last night.......

P.S---and who taught today's kids that it's okay to put your feet up on everybody else's fine furnture ????

Good posting and it's just part of the larger hostility found in many facets of life nowadays unfortunately. Construction crews have also been subject to cursing and thrown objects. Sadly, crude behavior is popular with too many in our society. Check out any Adam Sandler movie for example. Remember back in the day when nobody dared to ever saythe words SUCK or F--- ???? Now you hear them in PG rated movies.....and even sometimes it's slipped into network television. Many of today's generation cannot say one sentence without cursing and feel there is nothing wrong with doing so either. I believe you can be arrested for cursing at law enforcement officers. Some kids from my clique did so in the early 1970's at a Bronxville cop and were all locked up for disorderly conduct or something similiar, car impounded---deservingly so !!! Happy Weekend.

Many thanks for the tip. The airport limo from Yonkers to JFK costs more than the flight !!!!!!
-
Saw a sign at a contruction site in downtown Yonkers asking for two way radios to be turned off. How do area Fire, Police and EMT's handle this ? Was told that two way radios are used to detonate the blasting and other radio transmissions may set off the dynamie being used. Thanks.

FYI: I served on federal jury duty several years back in lower NYC, Foley Square. I asked why I could not serve in White Plains at the new federal courthouse and the reason is that they only have four judges and fewer cases along with giving preference to those jurors living upstate to avoid forcing them into a long journey to lower NYC. The federal court district extends way, way upstate.

Some 1960's vintage movie cars out on the lot at 285 Tuckahoe Road, Yonkers, movie studio. Gene Hackman's black Ford unmarked rmp from "The French Connection" plus two green and black 1960's NYPD RMPS and the black Coupe Deville crashed by the mob guys at the end of "Magnum Force" is also there. These are all for Denzel Washington's upcoming film "American Gangster" which will mostly shoot nights in Harlem. Russell Crowe's "Tenderness" is also using the Yonkers Stages right now. Happy Memorial Day to all.

How much more dangerous than conventional gasoline are these other auto fuels such as ethanol, natural gas, vegetable oil, etc? Have Police and Fire Dept's been trained yet for potential jobs ?? What were the dangers with Hybrid car fires mentioned months back ? Thank You.

After any fire, is a written report required? If so, what member of the fire dept writes them??? Thanks and Happy Memorial Day.
