This position has nothing to do with the 911 dispatchers except that it will be located nearby. Oswegowind: Did you really get a call from a scanner user ???!!! If somebody from the media calls asking about a job, will they get an answer or be told to call the Commissioner's office??? Is that your child in the picture eating junk food ??? ??

With the foiling of the recent JFK gas line explosion plot, was wondering logisticly if mass casualties can result if a gas line is sabotaged. The utility company claims it would not happen as easily as presented in the media. Maybe this was just bs media fodder, maybe not. They claim a long distance explosion throughout the gas line cannot occur if one point is detonated. I remembered seeing an entire neighborhood devastated a few years back in either South New Jersey or maybe Pennsylvania after a gas line somehow exploded. Thinking of this is absolutely frightening. Channel 13's "Expose" segment last night about railroad chemical tankers as potential targets was quite disturbing. Sorry, but it's only a matter of time one way or another for us unfortunately. Hate saying it... Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital ATTENTION WEBMASTER--PLEASE BOLD ALL POSTING TITLES. THANK YOU.

So as a homeowner with gas service, there is really nothing I can do protect myself and family other then fire drills and smoke detectors, CO detector and serious size fire extinguishers ????

How do so many non residents continue to get away with registering their vehicles in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc ????? It came to mind after reading about the MVA in Yonkers with injuries on Odell Avenue yesterday. The owner's NY address was located this time by a lucky break, but what happens if the driver escapes and your only clue is a license plate registered out of state ?? How can you determine the identity of the NY resident owner?? This is a big problem with illegals doing hit and run accidents. Thank You and stay cool. Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital

Was told there was also a stolen Honda with PA plates chased by Anti Crime someplace in northwest Yonkers and ending with a foot chase into the old carpet shops on Lake Avenue at Nepperhan. Perp I think escaped onto a very, very low rooftop, but left behind his girlfriend and pit bull in the stolen car. This was a day after or before the BP incident. Those temporary paper dealer plates are another scam begging for a traffic stop. Glad to hear the YPD force has increased, seems like every other perp has guns...and good luck changing the retirement rules for dispatchers. Long overdue.
-
Oswegowind, Both perp cars had PA plates in that stolen credit card job on Tuckahoe Road at the BP gas station @ Otseo Road. Michigan and Rhode Island pleated seem to be very popular nowadays. Almost seems like shooting fish in a barrel for law enforcement to run almost any of these plates with certain drivers.

In Yonkers and the rest of the county, will most PD's respond to take a report of a motor vehicle accident without injuries? People tell me when they call they are told to exchange papers only....but what if your insurer requires a police report??? Thanks

Saw the disturbing report on Channel 2 news the other night about easy to make sode bottle chlorine bombs and very stupid kids who use them. Has anybody encountered them in Westchester??? I hope the answer is no....cringe at the thought of perps chucking them off rooftops or out of moving vehicles, etc. Very disturbing... Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital

There are a bunch of chlorine bomb videos on Youtube.com which I learned about during that news broadcast. No injuries reported to our emergency room yet.... Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital

Driving westbound on Tuckahoe Road very early yesterday morning near Mountaindale Road, and in the opposite direction YFD Rescue One, both old and new passed by me. So has the YFD's new Rescue One has been officially delivered? Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital

Not only will the stadium riders benefit, but so will the entire surrounding area. Watch for the Yuppie pioneers to slowly embrace this area. You might laugh, but they are already moving into a few buildings along the nearby Grand Concourse. In particular, Executive Towers, it's the big white brick co-op with the Caesar's Palace type statues outside. The MTA previously would not commit to building the station without knowing if the Yanks would stay in the Bronx. There is a piece in today's NY Post about a new retail mall being built nearby just off the Deagan. The Bronx Terminal Market and House of Detention have both been demolished for this project. Saw a legal notice in last Friday's paper seeking Request for Quotes for a new radio system for the City of White Plains. Is this for police, fire or both ? Are they going digital after having experimented with it ? Thanks Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital

Anybody seen Steven Seagal filming his new film in town? They were at Police HQ last Tuesday. Seen him around after that? FYI: Hilary Swank's new film "Laws of Motion" comes in next Monday.

Oswegowind, Speaking of license plate checks, can plates from foreign countries be run through NYSPIN or any other law enforcement database ? Was under the impression that Canadian plates are the only ones linked into USA lae enforcement databases and it might only be those from eastern Canadian provinces such as Ontario and Quebec. Can anybody clarify this?? Also, do the license plate readers work through vehicle glass? Was thinking if they can be discreetly mounted inside of undercover vehicles such as vans, etc. Thank You.

Prior to Sunday night's New Rochelle mess, when was the last police red alert in Westchester? I recall other minor calls for police mutual aid, but never recall such a massive one like this Sunday night....and I hope it never, ever happens again...and I am glad everybody got a handle on it before it got much worse. Thanks

Here's a link to yesterday's flooding of the Bronx River on the Yonkers-Bronxville and Tuckahoe borders: yonkerstv.blogspot.com Many old timers say this is the very worst Bronx River flooding ever....and I can attest to that statement. Yonkers assisted with Bronxville at the flooding in and around their high school. Great job by YPD,YFD and Empress performing non madatory evacuation of flooded Brookland apts, 1000 Palmer Road @ Kimball Avenue. Glenwood Gardens, Glenwood Avenue was also evacuated ????? Stay Safe Dr. Zuki Lawrence Hospital

P.S.--The submerged mini van was located on the Bronx River Pkwy southbound one block north of Palmer Road and photgraphed early afternoon, by nightfall it was totally submerged and not visible !!!

Be certain you have the car title before calling any tow places for removal. Would any local fire or police depts want it for practise purposes ???

I think 217 Riverdale Avenue is a non MHA senior citizen building. The Planning Board is reviewing a proposed 70 unit apt building near Ludlow Station, unrelated to the Struver-Cappelli project. Not sure if it's rental or condos. The Yonkers city jail ( Hilton on the Hudson) will have to be relocated for the Alexander Street development. Please tell me the YPD has been informed of this !!!.....I heard it months ago directly from the former CDA Commissioner. As part of this development, the city should ask the developer for a waterfront facilty for both the YPD and YFD boats.

Oswegowind, What a coincidence that the last red alert was from Playland involving buses which were likely from Fordham Road. That was the major train stop for the New Roc perps !!

osewegowind, Yesterday's Journal News summed up what I have been saying all along--as the inner city areas change for the better slowly, the owners will opt out of their government housing obligations when their mortgages expire. Whitney Young will likley never go market rate, but you can bet that Parkledge ( 220 Yonkers Ave @ Saw Mill Pkwy) could be a conversion based on it's ideal location and it is somewhat isolation from the bad end of town, But I know they are having problems there now which can be remedied if the owner's so choose. It was always regarded as the best of the Section 236 buildings in Yonkers when Ginsburg owned it. Seven Pines on Glenwood Ave is anothe possible candidate for conversion based on it's proximity to the railroad station. And maybe 10-15 years from now if the waterfront expansion extends outward enough, even Riverview One and Two could end up converted if the demographics change. The Daily News reported in recent days of numerous apt buildings being bought in both both East Harlem and the Grand Concourse, Bronx. There is good reason why certain city hall insiders bought up those houses on Buena Vista Avenue...
-
oswegowind, If at all possible, please consider donating extras of those photos to both the Yonkers and Westchester Historical Societies. These places were not that bad when they were first built and families were stable back in the day. Also, the Journal News was incorrect in identifying Whitney Young as a Mitchell Lama project. it actually was a Section 236 building constructed under the NY State Urban Development Corporation program.

You could also take any cheap metal book end and bend both sides into U shape for upright positioning of a pocket scanner.

HARLEM LINE TO PENN STATION: But would it work to have the Harlem line trains cut across to the Hudson line west side tracks at the Mott Haven junction area ( just above Melrose Station) and reach Penn station via the Spuyden Duyvel area tracks ? And I thought that's how they plan to have the Harlem line reach the new Yankee Stadium station which will be located on the Hudson line tracks. And here's a good question: How come no train lines wer never extended to Wall Street which existed when Grand Central was constructed? Email all corrections to that Journal News writer if she gets her stuff wrong...
