  1. Came accross this corgi Valhalla Engine.................
  2. In Nassau it is just as bad...at least at the start of a bad storm.....almost all the FD's dispatched by the county have base station radios and the norm now is that a dept. member trained in the radio opps. will man the base station during a T-storm, snow standby or like in the case of the blackout a few years back, from that point on Nassau Firecom will give additonal alarms to the base station opp. via landline. Which usually amounts to "1 automatic alarm, 3 wires calls, and 1 water investigation" The base station acts as a command post of sorts and assigns units as needed. This cuts down on alot of radio traffic as additional alarms are now handled on high bands or respond without calling county fire. Dept,s who dispatch themselves 24/7 will not transmit further alarms with tones, after the first few calls they may tone out for all manpower to respective stations and then assign units on high bands.
  3. Thanks guys for the info......
  4. Moving from Bergen...any other NJ Volunteer Dept.s run with tillers.....Red Bank I think and maybe Oaklyn and Ocean Beach? As usual Thanks in advance.

  8. Can one of the Bergen members tell me how many Tillers are in service in Bergan...I know of Ridgefield Park, Cliffside Park and Rutherford and they are all 100% volunteer Depts. correct????......thanks....
  9. Got a little off track but it refers to the other post in this thread about gearing up at the scene of an alarm........
  10. Any Westchester or Putnam Depts.s still ride the tailboard of any rigs?? With or without safety belts?? Just wondering there are still some Depts. out there that do it on the older rigs.
  11. In my Dept. (not Westchester) the Driver can wear it if he wants 99% of the time they don't...the tillerman wears bunker pants if possible. We are one of those companies who get out the door in minutes with many members living close to the Firehouse. Other members grab the gear and put it on before the drivers get into position or just take it with them in the crew cab. Our Firehouse is on a long residential street and we have designated "pick up points" on the North and South ends of the block that the members can get on the truck when it stops at those intersections. Most of the Chauff.s/tillermen keep gear on the truck. Others have it on the racks on the walls. Now I'm not saying this system is the best but it works for us and we have been doing it for decades. One other thing about gearing up on scene...it's not such a bad thing as it can give you a moment to catch your thoughts and SLOW down. Take a survey of the scene and get a grasp of what has to be done. It only takes a minute or so to put on gear. In my 22 years I have never been at a person trapped call wear the truck pulls up and the firemen run right into the house non stop one motion. If a person is in a window you have to throw ladders, safely....looking for wires or whatever, if they are inside you have to find out where if possible from other family members or neighbors, think about your moves. If in the Engine you have to stretch a line maybe the first thing you do is get the line to the fire before going for the rescue...in short, weather you have gear on or not you still need to slow down and think before you go head long into the S&*T
  12. I am from out of County and had always thought the Airport had an on site fire crew...what is the response plan for the airport?? I'm sorry if this was disscussed in an earlier thread somewhere..be safe.

  14. From the old info I had ithe new house will be built on the site of Mamaro Eng. co......also Hook and Ladder will relocate to the new house.......any word if the village will keep the old Hook and Ladder house for storage? I love the old school fire houses and this is one of them.
  15. Any new info or timeline for the construction of this house? Thanks guys and be safe.
  16. How will this effect response times, do most of the company members live in the vicinity of the current house. Is there enough manpower on that side of town to maybe form a new company with a quint?
  17. Any more news on this topic?

  21. Some interesting pics can be taken if a wet down is well atteneded....Here is a pic from a few years back at Elmont LINY's wet down for their new Tiller...on the right, a rare pic indeed as the only 3 tillers in service on Long Island were there and posed for this pic.....Left to Right Glencove's 1987 Seagrave, Freeport's (not in service at the time of pic) 2004 Seagrave and Elmont's 2003 Spartan/LTI........and they did flow water that day.
  22. Does Ossining still have a Dispatcher on during the day?
