at full staffin Hartsdale E-170 has 4 FF's and E-169 will have 3 FF's
-
i think that this list seems to make alot more sense but what can ya say ro do, who is responsable for these reorganization
-
Even still take Hartsdale for example again caz i know it better we used to be BATT19 with greenville, fairview, white plains and scarsdale those are the departments we work with most given there are times we call elmsford but still thats only 2 Batts now it will be at minimum 3 different Batts..also it worked the other way as well because all those depts called each other on 2nd alarms and or for coverage as well so it fit the coin both ways...the new system i thing is semi illogical but who am i , and also lets face it in the career departments i don;t think these BATTs have as big a role as in some of northern westchester.. i also would like to know what are the qualifications to be a Batt Chief?
-
These new areas seem kinda not well planned, take for instance hartsdale our m/a plan has Fairview and Greenville and Scarsdale on a 2nd alarm.. now whats that 3 different batalions? not well planned were goin to end up with more BaTT cordinators on scene then m/a companies Battalion 14 - Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Fairview, Hartsdale, Hastings, Irvington, Tarrytown Battalion 18 - Eastchester, Greenville, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Yonkers Battalion 19 - North White Plains, Purchase, Scarsdale, West Harrison, Westchester County Airport, White Plains also many of these departments that are now grouped together will never call each other for reasons that we all know, this doens;t make it right but i think some of the lower westchester batts were fine as is.
-
i deffinatly hope they will all be ok but on another note i also hope that they moved that rig following knock down of the fire other wise we certainly have some placement issue to discuss....
-
We dispatch ourselves on 46.26, certain alarms that are not full assignments are not toned out they are dispatched in house via intercom thus on 46.26 you will only hear E-169 or E-170 responding and usually you will hear them call on and back in service. those alarms are called stills which are not sounded over the pagers or toned out as not to alert the volunteers. our current portable band is 153.83 there is currently a test under going with new high band portables.

Any one happen to know who would be transport this gator? i guess during the day the fire brigade members could probably but what about at nite, and the ETA to the scene, deffinatly a nice tool to keep in mind but just brought to light a few questions in my head.
-
R-88 White plains has some sort of battery operated combo spreader/cut tool... they say its easy to use when a car is very deep into the woods or any other situation where the scene is remote or carrying the normal portable unit would be ruff or not fit.

BALTIMORE APPARATUS CRASH 3/13/2006- Baltimore Fire department officials say four people were hurt when a van and a fire engine collided yesterday in West Baltimore. It happened about 2;15 in the 15-hundred block of West Lafayette Avenue while the fire truck was returning from a call. Fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright says the engine was using its lights and siren. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Two people in the van were taken to Shock Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries. Four other people in the van refused treatment. The accident remains under investigation. The above take form www.Firefighterclose calls.com i think it best not to comment on the above case untill all the facts come out, granted we know the media often doesn't have the whole story, however i pose a question to the members of this board. How many of your departments return from calls with lights and sirens? What would the purpose of this be and doesn't it put more people at risk? Where is the good old EVOC statement Due regard? Here is a Good EVOC article http://cms.firehouse.com/content/article/a...onId=15&id=6957

this is rediculious, why don't we hire them as cops or investigators as well. these inmates working in hotels and kitchens do they get paid? or does the money that they would make go toward the coast all us tax payers are paying for their prison stay. What kind of training do you think theses guys get?

Great topic I couldn't agree more that if u want to be a interior FF you shave, and just because your facial hair may allow you to pass the mask fit test doesn’t mean crap so what one day you passed how bout when you let your growth get away a little and the seal worsens... why would you be dumb enough to have growth, potentially have a bad seal and take that risk to you own life of loosing air and maybe running out or even risk taking in any of that crap that’s burning and god knows what it is (positive pressure or not its still a unnecessary risk) then lets make it worse your loosing air your running low on your way out guess what now we may have to deploy FAST, great put more personnel into a burning building who are now at risk because of your stupid facial growth needs, and now were going to have to establish another FAST so lets get another rig on the road running lights and sirens to the job knowing some one may be down and now even more adrenalin is rushing and siren foot kicks in, (No not saying this always happens but we all know people do it I am sure many of you have seen it time and time again). Paid vs. vollie don’t matter = standards all around you want to be a FF you do what OSHA says, this isn’t a joke or a game or playing dress up you want to do the job you follow the rules of a firefighter no I am only a vollie I do what I want......

I deffinatly agree that training is the most important part of what ever bail out system you use, and i think that trying out several systems is also necessary, i used to carry the good old 35 foot rope with a biner which when u take away the knots and safety ou probably around 30feet, i personally now carry 50ft with 2 steel biners and a mini 8 plate. the extra 20 feet doens;t take up much more room it isn;t very heavey, it is still smaller then the new FDNY system which i would liek to play around with at some point and lastly it leaves the extra rope if needed i rahter have extra then come up short for some reason. also i know the purpose is to get out of harms way be it even just dropping down a floor or 2, but you never know. Bottom line is this is your life line test it and train with it before puttin it in your gear or purchasing them in any sort of numbers what works for FDNY or another dept may not work for you and yours... so look around..

Scrub area is the area of a building that your truck's aerial can reach, in the case of a tower ladder it is the area of a building that the basket can touch. Ideally you want your tower ladder or stick to be able to hit 2 sides of the building. and in the above case you deffinatly want your scrub area to be in the proper operating range to make the necessary rescues. as well as provide a means of egres as necessary along with the more likely need to go defensive. FDNY and aieralscope have a pretty good tower ladder placement and operations manual linke below http://sageauthoring.com/fdny/ft&p/ftplad06.pdf

My favorite is seeing all the Ex Chief's on the backs of coats running around at a job there are more Ex Chiefs then FF's at times.. So either were changing chiefs a lot and getting a lot of qualified personal or maybe were making new officers so fast so that every one gets a shot at being chief and maybe some of these officers are not qualified and lack the experience and training needed to be a Incident Commander

pump operator is the 1st due engine company's MPO. the Remaining 2 or 3 enignes and truck MPO'S will start fire attack and or rescue. often that MPO has to get his own water source as well, it just makes 4 or 5 guys have to do the jobs of many more at the onset of a worker.

Statement released by Kentland FD "STATEMENT REGARDING THE STANDISH DRIVE FIRE 2/16/2006 - There are two (2) separate incidents being brought out from this fire - Incident #1: This incident revolves around a Lieutenant from Kentland VFD, and a Deputy Chief and Captain from Bladensburg VFD. The incident stems from a Bladensburg truck parking on top of a Kentland attack hose line which was operating inside the house. The ensuing actions to remove the truck from the hose are the center of this portion of the investigation.. As of this time the investigation has been completed and disciplinary actions are pending. Incident #2: This incident revolves around allegations that while inside the fire building members from Kentland shut off air cylinders and ripped off protective equipment of firefighters fighting the fire. The Kentland VFD denies these false allegations 100%, and we anxiously await the conclusion of this investigation to clear the names of both the Kentland VFD, and it’s members will be cleared of any wrong doing. Also, please be aware that the information that is out right now is one sided. We at Kentland VFD are assisting and cooperating with the Prince Georges’ County Fire Department with their internal investigation " www.kentland33.com

i couldn't agree more having helped work on Engine 317's conversion and clean up, it would be great to have a rig for this purpose in the county that would be only for funerals and such that wouldn't require all the last minute work to be done to it. lets spread the word of the need for this unit..
