Great class, alot of hands on and tool time and a excellant binder full of information to take home, it was also great to try out and work with all different brands and kinds off tools as well as some interesting situations all the while dealing with alot of equipment that most departments don;t carry. it was also great that our group was comprised of 12 members from Hartsdale Greenville Fairview and Scarsdale Which was great becuase we work together often and most likely would do so if this sort of incident happened. thank you to Stiloskis for sponsoring and hosting this class.

Works for me, well it has a nice parapet to help aid in a firefighter not walking off the roof on either side. With regards to the roof it self very cluttered, multiple tripping hazards including wires which bring an electrical shock hazard, ventilation shafts, and multiple air-conditioning units. The building looks very run down and neglected there appears to be loose debris on the roof. this also brings into question how stable the roof may be due to neglect and the clutter also a factor is the location of the fire and its impingement on the roof it self. Not to mention the large amount of weight put upon the roof by all the A/c units and debris and so forth. This amount of weight coupled with a few Firefighters conducting roof ops could bring about the failure and subsequent collapse of the roof. its also hard to tell but looks as though this is a pretty tall building with roof access via the ladder in the A-D side, most likely and aerial ladder wont reach and there doesn’t appear to be access form an attach building. Also this brings into questions the ability to access the roof via the interior stairs and this depends upon the location of the fire. This brings about the lack of 2 means of egress for companies operating on the roof. Also based upon the look and age of the structure it doesn’t appear to be truss construction on the roof but yet you can never be totally sure till you’re in there. some times its best if your on the top floor the poke a hole in the ceiling and or push up a drop ceiling and attempt to get a quick look of what type of construction is above your because in a matter of minutes it will be below you.

they roll on the 2nd alarm with the engine company that it is assigned so Eng 72 and Sat 2 respond together on 2nd alarms in the bronx. remember the Sat has no pump and E-72 having a 2000gpm pump will feed the Sat unit if necessary Example from truck 4's IA on the queens 2nd alarm today- note E-324 with S-4 on the 2nd "1st alarm assignment E-275, 303, 317, 302; L-133, 165, 155; R-4, Sq-270; B-54, B-50 (10-75) 2nd Alarm: E-298, 311, 308; L-126; E-324/S-4; B-51 (Safety), B-53 (RUL); Field Com 1, TAC #2, Rescue B/C, Safety B/C."

the low flow is designed to give u a Decent stream even with less then 100psi at the tip as most normal TFT nozzels require. They make TFT's designed to operate at 50psi or 75psi and still give you in the range of 150-180 gpm..
-
No set nozzel is the solve all end all, each department use's different things for a reason. ladder 12 how much pressure do u get on avg outa your hydrants?
-
My dept use's 150Ft of 1 3/4 inch with a TFT low flow nozzel, we also supplement with 50ft of 2 1/2as the 4th length when needed due to some long hallways. This 150ft is kept in a high rise pack and includes a inline pressure gage and reducer off the standpipe outlet. We also have 3 50ft flat packs of 2 1/2 totalling 150ft for larger fires with a smooth bore nozzel.

now if a class is short people why won't the county fill out the class with out of county people rather then cancel it. i know i have taken a few classes in rockland and i am from westchester. i could see not letting in some one out of county if it ment locking out one of your own. Any one from white plains who has what classes and the dates private message me, i know our dept was going to be fowarded the datesany way but the more notice the better. well hopefully that will help out with getting additional training. its great to see local depts running classes.

well advanced rope rescue is 13 days away i am signed up i hope the class comes off as planed... side note its at the WCFTC OCT 14,15 and 21,22. i would like to see another confined space class at WCFTC being the August one was canceled and a Hazmatt Tech class. Any word on any one running the structural collapse series now that Camp Smith is closed? Other then Montour
-
is space and lenght a consideration if not look into 75Ft towers from ALF or Seagrave. With regard to Chappaqua i also heard that they were not totally happy with theirsand i know scarsdale Fd has either a 70 ft or 73 Ft sutphen that is a 1997 or 1998 and they are not happy with it either. I heard through the grape vine that both depts are not very pleased. An that there may be replacements in the works for both.

Hartsdale Engine 170 carries our tool and air bags and other rescue equipment.

i deffinatly agree, its so hard to get the training with out a long trip up to montour. i was in the confined space rescue class in august at the WCFTC and that was canceled we had 6 people show up the 1st morning and it was a pain to be reassigned from work and other guys had to take off. i was also soposed to take medium structural collapse tools at montour oct 5 and 6 and that was also cancelled. lastly i am registered for the advanced rope rescue class oct 14 and 15 and 21 and 22 at WCFTC which i hope comes off as planned. This just shows how much the closing of camp smith will hurt the fire service in this area. we all need to step up and start taking classes so we prove a demand and all further our own knowledge. Other wise these classes won;t come off and no further ones will be schedualed and heck its alot easyer goin 10 15 min or less to the training center rather then 3 1/2 to montour.

New Ro also runs its own class if i am not mistaken other then that your pretty much right on the mark.
-
Thanks Chip, Firecapt, Demps, ALS and VV Congrats Seth. look forward to atleast 29 more with you buddy and Codes C D E F and more Drooling

Also note as stated above, the Westchester County Squad sytems as a model for the rest of the country in Fire Engineering Magazine The July issue page 32 down on the bottom right of the page.
-
Squad 6 ( Hartsdale Greenville and Fairview) have a group of members with all the curent training and are continuing to train with it. Yonkers has a team and will respond when needed just as the responded to the tornado in hawthore with REs 1, Sq11, the collaspe unit, and a Truck company and Batt Chief. NEW RO Fd also has collapse equipment as does White Plains.. As stated above the other Squads will be continuing to train and get equipment

i hear Oct... start date, any one know who is hiring i heard Scarsdale, Ryebrook, Larchmont ? any others? how about a director and Asst?
-
Hartsdale and Scarsdale have an agreement that upon either Department going to work on a all hands they call the either to act as a FAST team. For example about a month ago Scarsdale had an all hands on fenimore road at about 2am and Hartsdale's FAST was requested and Engine 170 responded as FAST and the same happened about 2 weeks ago for smoke in the building in Hartsdale and the Ic requested Scarsdale FAST. this agreement deals with a 2nd alarm request in Hartsdale the IC used to get Greenville ladder 4 and Fairview Eng 175 on the request now its Both of those units with the FAST team from Scarsdale.

Also, I don't justify my actions and to say that we all don't do it is not true because, not accusing, a majority of people have or will do sommething unbsafe as what is being posted in this topic. To say that a person has never is hard to beleive. I'm not writing a position on my actions nor have I stated what I beleive in this post. I will admit, I have done so in the past. HFD23, I'm not pickung on you at all and I fully agree with your post but the reality on both sides of this issue is so clouded that it will never be resolved. Stay Safe all. ← No on sees it as being picked on i was just pointing out that several members seem to cloud the issue rather then attempt to solve it, you gave some very informative information and sadly i tend to disagree with you on that these things will not change, its up to us as Firefighters and espically the Chiefs and OFFicers of a department to make sure things liek this don;t happen and i am sure the chief now thanks to the picture is aware of the incident and hopefully they do something to prevent it from happening in the future. thats what this is all about.....
