i agree with every one, saws are tools and tools break and fail. chains snap, blades get torn up or break, roof tar buildup on the chain or blade can mess up the saw, they as with everything are not 100% going to work every time all through a incident things happen. so why not have the axe and when ur saw fails continue with the axe while waiting for a 2nd saw rather then be up there with nothing and just waiting.

they have had that a while i'd say some time around june they got it. it was purchased from i believe Greenwich Ct. FD

Good Samaritan laws are meant to protect those who come to the aid of others for no other reason than kindness. Good Samaritan laws only help if the rescuer (or would-be rescuer) is acting without any expectation of reward. In other words, if you are getting paid to rescue then you aren't a good Samaritan. Paid rescuers are expected to do their jobs correctly and can be held accountable for mistakes. don't act outside your area of training..... if your not trained to start iv's or something like that don.t etc note there is also The "Good Samaritan Volunteer Firefighters' Assistance Act" that took effect on May 15, 2003. you may want to look into the specifics of that. but obviously that would not aplly to FDNY

From LoHud.com *Also Note Greenville FD was also part of this training and accidently left out of the article FULL STORY: http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...369/1018/news02

a engine with jaws or cribbing I personally don’t deem as a rescue or duplication of services a true rescue should have air bags, rope, specialized rescue equipment, grip hoists, slings, wire rope, shackles, equipment for shoring, struts, maybe trench panels, etc... All the regular stuff most engines don’t carry what is the point of a rescue with just a tool then you need an engine to stretch a line.. and a rescue with a pump and hose and tank should just be an engine. its one thing to have the big truck another to equip it correctly.. but lastly you need to people trained to use the equipment.

mabe some one could also explain the numbering system of rigs up there in dutchess i know they are very organized by dutchess 911 so you know for example 39-11 is a engine or 34-11 is a engine (although i know its a quint) the 1st numbers are the Dept number the 2nd set are the type of rig.. correct?
-
So about how many rescue trucks are in dutchess? and what is the level of training of the members who man these rigs? is there a minimum level of training for the members of the company in order to be called a rescue company? Or is it just like you have a rescue truck so you’re a rescue company? This is meant in no way to bash any one just wondering how different Westchester and dutchess are.
-
The truck has been working well as of late. there have been minor problems along the way over the years. the boom is fine and it is out at Seagrave for evaluation of a problem with rust.

They come up with a great law on paper to help protect firefighters saying we need an escape system then they drop the ball with leaving the AHJ to interpret the law. This leaves them the ability to take the short cut way out and only purchase a piece or rope and a carabiner or as stated below they can say "Other procedures which can be used to insure the safety of fire fighters operating in the building (ladders placed for emergency egress as a matter of SOP on each call) then you may not have to provide anything." It’s still not enough why we cut costs when it comes to FF Safety as long as we continue cutting corners with our safety we will continue to kill over 100 FFs a year......

go for a survivor or vulcan, vulcan is very bright, and the leds on the rear make it easy to see your fellow FF's or even to mark a door when searching a room by leaving the light at the door. also both are hands free the helmet mounted lights are not that brite, and just add weight..

The peddle needs to be depressed for the guy on the turntable controls to operate the bucket. The personnel in the bucket most often have one or more joysticks that require a trigger to be lifted or squeezed in order to operate. The turntable on our truck has a switch that gives power to the controls in the bucket that can be turned off. however a easier way is when the bucket has the control if they are about to come in contact with wires or the building (or for any other reason that the turntable needs to take control) the turntable operator can take control of the bucket by stepping on the peddle this over rides the bucket control thus stopping the bucket. The turntable operator can over take the bucket by stepping on the peddle and also can pulls one of the 3 levers on our truck that extends retracts, raises or lowers, or side to side thus moving the bucket crew out of harms way. note all trucks are not the same so this may be different on your depts truck.

Just wanted to point out that while listening to 46.26 before a certain north county department was dispatched to an address and there was a report of an explosion at that address with no further information and that particular chief signed on and requested to start out a neighboring Departments F.A.S.Team right off the bat. being that both departments are volunteer and there is that increased response time while members respond to the fire house to get rigs this greatly decreased the response time rather then waiting to get on scene and confirm what’s going on prior to starting them out. The point is start out help you can always send them back. That’s what were all here for and if this had turned out to be a working incident the m/a would have been on scene a lot faster.. So hats off to this officer...
