At Hartsdale we plow our own stations using 2173.

In Hartsdale we are lucky to have 3 MSA TiC's they are located on Engines 169 and 170, along with in Car 2172 The Duty Deputy Cheifs Car That responds on everything aside from EMS. IF 169 or 170 are out of service the Camera is transfered to The SPare Engine 171. Also if Tower Ladder 15 responds mutual Aid to say White Plains or any where else the camera is removed from car 2172 and goes with the tower ladder. 2172 is aslo has a tv monitor that recieves the thermal imaging camera and has the ability for commmand oficers to view that the camera see's as well as can record the image.

Date: 12-11-04 Times: Approx: 10:15 - 11:10 when Greenville and hartsdale were released. Location: Grenada Crescent. Frequency: 46.26 Units Operating: All Fairview units including 2121, Engine 170 Hartsdale, Ladder 4, Rescue 29, Car 2151 Greenville, Valhalla Engine 83 and Elmsford Ladder at FFD HQ to cover and Scarsdale Tl-29 on standby in scarsdale for Greenville Description Of Incident: Structure Fire in an electrical pannel, Writer: DRD FFD had smoke showing on arrival, requested con ed to cut the power, and a 2nd alarm, they opened up several walls and checked the rooms above for extention which was negative. also note there have been several simialr fires in this appartment complex over the years. So good job to all those departments involved.

still its a great idea, however there must be 6 guys on that rig at all times, so you may have to add 305 at station 11 and hire or add 2 guys to man engine 305 for medical runs, and if a run came in for the collapse unit or the squad these 2 member could man the collapse unit, or if it was necessary run 305 rigth behind the squad or even remain inservice incase of a 10-45 run...
-
I LIKE THAT IDEA WITH A SEPARTE PIECE TO DO THE eMS RUND BEING ENGINE 305, BUT I THINK THE ONLY PROBLEM IS BY WESTCHESTER COUNTY STANDARDS A SQUAD NEEDS 6 MEN AT ALL TIMES THAT HAVE SPECIFIC TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT, THE REQUIRMENTS TO DESIGNATE A UNIT ARE ON 60 CONTROLS WEBSITE..

ya, in hartsdlae we have twin 2000 pierce Dash's they are great engines and i knwo we will be in the market for a replacement for engine 171 in the next few years and its pretty safe to assume that you will see a 3rd pierce in hartsdale. now rumor has it 170 may become 171 because of the increased work that engine see;s over 169, but bottom line is i have no complaints oce our pierce's
-
901 deffently a true point 311 either as a squad or eng will save lives, hte issue here is that YFD needs to consider will the squad be tied up on a medical call when it may be neew for a actual call that requires a squad. thus the argument is mabe YFD needs another engine in 311' s area, or that the squad concipt needs to be better thought out. mabe engien 305 need to run out of station 11 and be reorginazed, or mabe they can have a small unit like rescue 29 from greenvilel that can ru out of 11 with a guy or 2 on 10-45 calls, thus leaving the squad in service to respond... mabe the last suggestionisn;t a good one, the point is if its a specialized unit it needs to be available, and mabe another engine company can take away that burden, along with the growing nmumber of fires yonkers is gettin in recicent years i see no unjust reason to add an engine company. also question here, how many guys are on the squad at a time is it a normal engine crew, or does this unit have increased staffing

Town of Greenburgh has the same color standards and the water dept paints them
-
ya, always make sure some FD unit checks the situation prior to takin the home owners or the person on the other end of the contact numbers word, i know a southern westchester dept had a problem with this a few years back and it turned out that person was on a cell phone and said all was ok and he wasn;t at the residence which turned out to be on fire... So never underestimate a automatic alarm, always respond when ur pager goes off, be safe, but be ready to go to work every time u ride out or get off that rig.
-
Yup thats correct with regard to the school and all appartment buildings get Engine 170... along with several of the shoping centers such as the one cold stone and red lobster are in amoung others, so basiclly any apparment or place of public assembly will get the 2nd Eninge to equal a 2 and 1 responce in greenville
-
Every automatic alarm weither it be commercial or residential gets a full assignment, Car 2172 and 2 engines and the Tower. no matter what.. if in route we get a call back its relayed to 2172 and the duty officer has his discression, 95% of the time the 1st engine continues in and 2nd due engine and the truck will respond 10-20 with regard to on scene the crew goes in ready to go to work full gear tools scba, eveyrhting. and thats always. our preplanning also on a responce to a school gives us a m/a 3rd due engine from Fairview or greenville dependin on which side of town its on. also multiple dwellings such as the appartment buildings on east hartsdale ave and the colony of north washington ave we get ladder 4 from greenville automaticlly so it will be 2 and 2 responding, if we recieve further info we usually have the 1st enigne and 2172 continue in we 10-20 the 2nd engine and the truck and we return the m/a to service

are these new squads offically recoginized by westchester county and 60 control, i knwo there is a list of required features for an engine to be a engine a truck to be a truck and a squad to be a suad, they are on the 60 control website, it has to do with equipment carried as well as the ability to get a full crew at all times who meet all the required certifications so i would guess that these units meet the requirments, but will 60 control now recoginze squad companies on the radio? i know yonkers dispatchs them self so it may not apply there but new ro is done by 60, and what about us other westchester departments can we realy see a squad 270 from yorktown if they meet the requirments or even easyer what if hartsdale greenville of fairview all paid departments wanted to make squad 170 or squad 150.. how easly could we do this. and with yonkers will squad 311 be added to all 10-29's will it be 4 engines 2 trucks rescue batt and the squad? what if its in 311's 1st due will there be a 5th engine sent so they could function as a squad, it seems if there respond to a ems call or another lesser call in their 1st due area the rig is not out of service if a run came in where squad equipment or training is needed and as i think this is a great change i think they need to iron out the SOPs of the squad and dispatch...

my self and HFD209 built a floor collapse simulator for our department, it was about 4 feet wide by 6 feet long, had 4 sheet rock walls, and a piece of sheet rock as the top, it had ramp and we would lay a house line and or a rope and send 2 guys in to back up the line or replace 2 member who were searching with a rope, and then suddenly they would go through the floor dropping about a foot and 1/2 into an area we had pads. the idea would be how long it took for one of the firefighters to react and call a may day, if u want any further info u can private message me... also to simulate fire get a metal garbage can, cut strips in it, just slits around the bottom... then drop a space heater in it. it will glow hot and is great to show fire on a thermal imaging camera, just a few suggestions...

honeslty i don;t feel the briarcillf needs a foan unit, i think that departments are trying to handle to much them selves, other departments have foam capabilites as well as the county trailer stationed at fairview... i just feel that if ever department goes out and gets foam engines were wasting money that could be spent on other more daily equipment or a separte featrure on a rig.. briarcliff and their neighbors did a great job, they knew to call millwood wo has foam and they got the county squad 6 with foam on the road rite away. i just don;t feel every department needs every specialized tool espically if ur neighbor has it, you can work together as departments to make sure your area of the county has all the basis's covered rather then try to have every one have every luxary... thats just my personal opinion, but all in all the departments who responed did an excelant job so hats off to all involved...
