Try these links. First is the law and the second is the draft code (PESH interpretation of the law) http://www.labor.state.ny.us/workerprotect...Doc1.pdf#page=2 http://www.labor.state.ny.us/workerprotect...4-07.pdf#page=1

I like that alsFF

That is correct (under GML-209-x and 426) but will limit a transfer to a larger Department if they wanted to. Pleasant Valley falls under the limit but does the right thing and sends them to the 229.

For a key, Fire and CO are self explanatory. EMS is and EMS even if a first response engine is assigned. FIRE/EMS are MVA/ Auto Ped. Service-Fire are typically pump-outs. Service-EMS is assistance other than EMS (assist in a house, BP check).

I know a concern was brought about by the NYS Department of Labor in Long Island (go figure). If the janator, admin or what ever they are called, has to respond, mandated, they are not a volunteer firefighter. New York only has two, Paid and volunteer and they meet different standards. If paid, the Department must comply with all the applicable standards. Retirement, 207-a, Part 426, Etc. This will catch up with departments and bite them if the choose to ignore and operate this way.

Does anybody do Physical Ability Testing for volunteers to become a Firefighter? I am considering an approch to this and it would be a modified CPAT exam. Pros Cons
-
I'm sure you know the FPAT was created to help ensure people who are hired in Dutchess County have a greater chance of passing the manditory (for most) CPAT. With that in mind, should we also not want to ensure that our volunteers are capable of doing the physical tasks of a firefighter, not just pass classes.

The only conviction that disqualifies you to be a firefighter is arson. A sealed record is sealed and can only be opened by court order. When doing the arson check, there will not be any record to find from the PD who is doing it. How do you black list someone? What if he moved out of the area. Reckless endangerment may not be an arbitrary disqualification.

As in any organization, there are a few that do give them a black eye. It is unfortunate that we can only seek an arson conviction but even doing more may not always catch problems. This does strain any organization. As all, we need qualified volunteers and strive to get them. This will not cease our commitment to find and train any qualified volunteer willing to help. Thanks to numerous caring and dedicated individuals, both career and volunteer in our organization, we were able to nip this quickly. BTW the 16 year old if convicted of arson will probably have a sealed record so even an arson conviction will not show in the check. Jeffrey S. Pells Deputy Chief Arlington FD “Omnis Cedo Domusâ€

[attachmentid=2792] The original committee wanted to avoid 1-24 as these are military times. They also avoided 30,40,50. etc. I have attached a most recent radio plan that has the numbering system in it. Radio_Procedure_Manual_rev.pdf_4_20_07.pdf

Not sure why the call of nothing showing other then a habit slip but adding info about the building on EMS calls can assist in why it may have taken a while to get to the patient. Calling on scene and not getting to the patient in several more minutes due to being on the 10th floor and using elevators (which is time consuming) may explain delays in treatment and extended on scene times which are tracked by organizations through QA/QI. Not sure if Auburn transports or just a FR so it may be for different reasons.

Everything we do is driven by the legal system. If the employer has to offer, then they need to show proof that someone refused. Bad system(??) but we need to work with it. As stated prior, yes it is a requirment by OSHA. The determination on firefighters needs to be done on anticipated duties (from OSHA - Occupational Exposure means reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials that may result from the performance of an employee's duties.) Remember that we are covered in NYS by NYS Department of Labor (PESH) so questions should be directed there. 518-972-1789 OSHA 1920.1030 cut and paste http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.sh...ARDS&p_id=10051

Later this year or early next year, Dutchess County, NY will be eliminating the 36.46 simulcast and exclusively use UHF. I am looking at different in house and portable paging for our members. Currently we have old Plectrons which need to be replaced and Motorola Minitor II. Have you had good luck with other types? Would appreciate list of costs and vendors. We do have Minitor IV and V but looking for other options.

For the building, I have two that I am trying. Instalert out of NJ (http://www.instalertusa.org/index.html) and the Federal Signal Informer. Both seem to work. The informer has a relay for our lights system. Yeah 46.36. That what happens when the mind and hands dont work well. We do have M5's and about to order more and trying to see other flavors and experience.
