Are the cars from the same department? Just curious kinda sounds like that one dept. keeps buying new cars from the way you put. Could you please further your statement. If it is from various departments, maybe the other cars have been used for 8-10 years and are being replaced and I think that is on average or even longer than average for usages compared to a citizens car and the new ones are being displayed on this forum, but you are just seeing the new cars from many different departments, and I guess not the length of time the previous cars were used. Who knows...

If there any any complaints about it, you should voice your concerns at a town hall meeting, or a village council meeting. Also records are made public, and people can see where there money and town money is spent for either volunteer and paid departments. If I were to have a dispute about a claim or if I were to see funds misused i would voice my opinion in a professional manner at a given meeting. So I kinda feel that it is stirring the pot or what have you as this does not really need to be mentioned nor is anyone really going to learn from it. If it were needed to be voiced do it at a meeting. I just don't see any justification other than to get a response out of the question in the opening post.

How about the free use of MTA by city emergency services than as well, since it is an inquiry about economics in this troubling time. However, with the MTA raise subway and all other cost to the public do you think it is still fair? I know they are also providing a service to the public and helps with a visible presence on the trains. The hastings car I am sure would help an any situation whether in the jurisdiction or not if they see something while driving in an official vehicle. Maybe that is a benefit to the public as the more emergency vehicle on the road, may make for safer public.

if concerned about a single group as stated why don't you go to the town meeting and express your concerns, and I am sure that the questions could be answered or the town will look into it themselves.

To me it seems like the operating cost of equipment is where it goes. Each rig is an expensive investment that needs up keep throughout the years. There there is the cost of training, unless it is in house training with no gear or a rental fee than it costs something. Than possibly recruitment for furture generations to continue what you have laid out in your years of service to keep that organization alive. Lastly besides from the apparatus the equipment needed to outfit the rig in order to get the job done effectively, since like a high operating cost, that both paid and volunteer departments need for their budget. If for some reason there is a problem in the service that is provided with a timely manner, with the 8 rigs that the department has as mentioned, you and various other departments that are having trouble may want to look into how they can effectively service the community better. Maybe having duty hours to ensure that each of the 8 rigs is effeinciently staffed, and than there shouldnt be a problem. Secondly if you are billing and feel like the public is not getting the service that they desearve maybe look into a career staffing of the rig, which I am sure will eat into the operating budget rather quickly, and thus presumably add to the tax rate for the community. I feel paid or vollie there are operating costs, and nothing is free, we are helping cut costs by being volunteers, however, both groups still need to tax the public to be up to date and code, as well as provide the services. Now I did say we as volunteers do the service that a paid guy can do for free, but however this is not even a dig in that direction, as I have the utmost respect for you guys and gals that are providing as service as your livelihood. And the training that you must go through, which in fact i believe some of the more progressive volunteer deptartment whom want to better themselves and further themselves are completing as well. Career ff's and ems are good when the situation arises, i.e. call volume, city size, traffic volume etc... But when you look at it, it will cost everyone no matter career nor vollie. Just my two cents

Hey, I was just listen to my old radio station when i lived upstate, WEQX 102.7 based out of Manchester, VT, and was shocked to hear during this commercial which called people to volunteer to the two emergency services, EMS and FD. It gave a few instances when vollies came to the aid of their neighbors, both firematically and medically. It gave first hand accounts from the the citizens and the responders, set with inspirational music in the background and tone in the voice, calling the neighborhoods of VT to come out and volunteer. It went further to give a state wide toll free number for people to call to gain information on where to volunteer. I thought it was a great idea. I know that VT is a much smaller state and far fewer citizens, but if there were a Lower Hudson Valley Branch with an AD on a popular station it could be a helpful idea, to help boost membership drive. Any opinions?

So would a county wide, or regional ad be more effective, Or even just a specific town?

I was a track and field athlete at Manhattan College and practice at Van Cortlandt, I unfortunately smelled it everyday and practice was right before dinner. Also the throws coach, used that I guess as motivation during a recruiting trip down, he mentioned stella doro about 15 times in that two hour period

Nice thanks. Anyone have any predictions for the 500? or the upcoming season? I unfortunately think it will be a Hendrick Motorsports win again for the Cup. However I think a first time 500 winner will get it again this year. Kahne or Kyle Busch
