I think it is important to lock the doors, first of all anyone looking for meds, might not know the difference between an ALS or BLS bus, so they will go through it either way. Secondly with that person in the ambulance, they will take more than just the drugs and needles. I also believe the department of health does random checks to make sure doors are locked at hospitals and sometimes at scenes, they may get in drive it around the block, and than fine you. And lastly why take 30 minutes at a hospital and have the rig unattended and running for so long?

it's simple to vote them all out, but will it work? It seems like it is all talk and not a lot of action recently? But that's just my two cents. I hadn't known that they will add a MTA tax to the $25 plates. It is now $75 but it is also probably for 10 years or so. as I looked back at era's of the plates and on average the plate ran for 7-10 years. So your paying a one time $75 to keep a car on the road through license plates for 7-10 years.

I have no problem with the new plates or paying the $25, all it is, is instead of going out one night, I will stay in. The $25 shouldn't be too bad. Though I do understand the economic crisis

I am looking for an operating manual for a 2002 Pierce Rear-Mounted 100' Ladder Tower, does anyone know of any links to download this manual? I went onto Pierce's website and they have only brochures, and brief descriptions and functions. Thank you

San Francisco uses Fire Boats to pump in case of natural disasters such as earthquakes. Taken from a web page that I found is one of their emergency action plans.

Horrible news, and this effected so many people from the first responders, to the lives that were lost. Possible murder-suicide?

Chris and others very nice replies, and enjoy constructive criticism, as it educates us as a whole. So hopefully, can we do as not to have people take it personally, have a discussion, on some things that need to change. How to improve the volunteer service so that individuals do not lose their agencies but also provide the timely service and care that the residents and citizens need? I for one would love to see a great discussion, as there are places where vac's can be used and their is also a need for paid agencies. I understand that, hopefully we all can as well. So what can we do to improve? I know there are a lot of senior guys out there, that definitely have more experience and I would appreciate hearing their opinions as to learn. Recently a lot of people are facing struggles with work, sometimes working 2 or more jobs and are not able to make the commitment as they previously had, I believe this may be the biggest case for the burnout in the vollie department. However, with the economy improving this may only be for another year or two while people get back on their feet. Is this too long to wait? Or should their be daytime Paid EMS, as not to loose volunteer status in the town. I am looking forward to some good replies that can benefit as all as a whole.

I believe the problem is everywhere, not only the volunteer system. As I am an EMT at work, so I do get paid to be an EMT, and we are not a transport agency. The other day I had to "babysit" a patient for 20 minutes with a dislocated shoulder, as we waited for a paid agency. With call volume up everywhere, I think it is easy to look at Northern Westchester which is predominately a volunteer region and blame the vollies. It is an easy way out, to discredit many volunteer agencies, that do make calls on the first tone, or that do cover their calls. Do we examine the paid guys, no. Are we wrong that we don't sit by the scanner and listen to every dispatch to try and dig up some dirt? If we are so secure about how great the paid system is, can we discuss the issues there? Cause time was an issue in my case. Or how about the other day, while riding the train, a fellow passenger had an issue, I stated I was an emt, this issue did need more medical attention, and when we got to GCT we also waited 10-20 minutes for an ambulance so that I could properly transfer care. I think it is time to stop taking shots on the vollies, stop taking it personal when a vollie has a point to say, cause guess what, I am not looking to ruin your job, nor take your job away from you. You all do a great job and deserve everything you do. But lets examine the whole situation, not just the vollies. Calls are up everywhere, for both fire and ems, and it is taking a toll on both paid and vollie, lets work together as both sides have these issues.

At a recent company meeting The Croton EMS voted to create care packages to help morale of our troops stationed overseas, as we have members of the organization that have contacts over there in the services. We understand that the services can be the home of many young men and women whom they call their family, as they do not have support from back home. These care packages will be an on-going effort to help with the needed supplies as well as the small comforts from home to help brighten their day. We will have donation drop off boxes set up in the ems lockers so contact a member or stop by on Thursday Nights at 1900 to drop off. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated and help out our men and women who are away from their families serving our country. The following is a list of ideas of what to donate. Beef Jerkey Life Savers/Breath Savers etc Baby wipes Small Bottles of Mostuirizing Cream Magazines (PG), comics, word puzzles, sudoku etc Gum Lip balm Mixes for bottled water (i.e. crystal light) Foot Powder Sunscreen (high spf) Bug spsray Paper - pens Trail mix Newspapers Dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrushes Shaving kits Playing cards Toiletries (men and women) Sunglasses Pre-packaged, non-perishable food Our goal is to make this an ongoing project, filling up one box, sending it, filling up another box, sending it, and so on and so on. If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to let us know. We are open to suggestions welcome any input. THANK YOU ALL AND WE SHOULD ALL FEEL PROUD THAT WE ARE HELPING THOSE SERVING TO PROTECT US!!!! -Mike Pellet EMT/Driver Croton EMS 5544

How beneficial are they in departments, as it now needs two qualified drivers to hit the road?
