As mentioned above, it is a New York City OCME (Medical Examiner) Special Operations scene response unit. Carries various disaster morgue supplies and equipment.

There have been a lot of house fires in Westchester over the past couple of months, several of which included single family wood frame residential dwellings that were evacuated. Each fire turns into a major incident with numerous departments requested for mutual aid. If the structure, in this case, single family wood frame residential dwelling is evacuated, and it's not posing a threat to other structures, why do departments need such extensive mutual aid, often stripping resources from other communities, especially in the daytime, where manpower is hard to come by. As for brush fires, they also turn into major incidents. As I mentioned in another thread, I really think brush fire training and equipment is lacking. Some brush fires are OK to let burn, and doing so eliminates possible future brush fires. And the use of CAFS, which was developed initially for brush fires, really helps to extinguish the fire with less water and more penetration. I think it's time to look at a brush fire task force concept, so we have the proper equipment and trained personnel responding. Using numerous departments to dump water on the fire is a waste. Mutual aid should be for major incidents. If you're going to have the same departments respond on every fire you have, then why not just merge and become one department, especially if you can't accomplish the tasks with one another? The post above is just my opinion, AND IS NOT IN REFERENCE TO ANY ONE PARTICULAR INCIDENT, rather several various incidents.

Once the prototype is evaluated by FDNY and signed off on, any changes will be made, and then production is ready to begin. KME can pump out large orders like this pretty quickly, so I say you will be seeing these engines in early 2014.

Thank you Scott for the facts. Much appreciated.

"Dominate FB"? Our goal isn't to "dominate" or to compete. We really don't care about how many "likes" or, as you put it, "fans" we have, as "likes" are not a real metric on it's own. Our goal is to provide the best possible site and content for our members, and always be striving to find new ways to better the site. Some work, some don't, but some you don't know until you try.

x U-24: "1988 Chevrolet 350 Custom Deluxe 30 Utility Truck" http://www.auctionsinternational.com/servlet/Search.do?auctionId=3308&itemId=16081 x-DFVAC: "1990 Ford 350 XL Econoline Ambulance" http://www.auctionsinternational.com/servlet/Search.do?auctionId=3308&itemId=16082 I know that there are several rural and poor US departments, especially in the southeast, that would LOVE to have these vehicles. It's sad that the Village is sending them out to the highest bidder, and it's always sad to see well-equipped departments snub departments in need.

In today's Westchester County 2014 Budget release, one of the capital items was replacement of the radio system. $6,000,000 was budgeted Source: http://www3.westchestergov.com/images/stories/budget/2014/2014ProposedCapital_SectionC1.pdf However, a much needed renovation and expansion of 60 Control still appears on hold in the budget. I was hoping to see a brand new standalone facility for 60 Control in this year's capital budget, but still nothing. Everything gets renovated and upgraded around them at DES, they are doing more work then ever in the same cramped and obsolete facility. I don't understand why this item keeps getting overlooked, year after year. AND, they are working with less staff then they had 10 years ago, when they had 50% less workload. Not only would it improve operations, a new from-scratch modern facility would improve morale, and possibly help with staff retention. So much for the people who operate above said radio system.

Hearing more and more about the New York State Fire Academy moving to the New York State Preparedness Center at the former Oneida County Airport in Oriskany. Any else hear the same? It would make sense to consolidate training to this facility. More info on the center: http://www.dhses.ny.gov/sptc/

Drop it. No matter what another site says, it doesn't change the fact that it is a Ford F-550 chassis, and NOT a Freightliner! The new Utility 24 has also been in service for over two months now. Also, if you found the information on another site, cite your source and give that site credit (referring to original post claiming it's a Freightliner).
