  8. Hunter- thanks for sharing the updates with this! Neat to see this clinical research concept come to life. This would come in great for when I used to work in parts Texas, in counties where it could take you an hour to get to the scene, and then another hour to get to the hospital Houston has some of the best healthcare in the world.
  9. My bad. It's a 147" Paraliner per Lifeline's website. Didn't know they only made the E-450's for 158" and longer....good to know, thanks. I'm just surpised it's not 4x4, and that MarkMets415 hasn't posted more photos yet.

  11. The competition doesn't need this as a sign to be competitive, and the offerings are plentiful. Split-tilt cabs are very, very, very rarely asked for nowadays, and developing a new cab costs millions of dollars. They aren't going to develop a product that no one wants. A lot of departments also don't want or need a full stainless steel cab, as it's lighter and easier to maintain aluminum. The Ferrara Ultra also comes as a full-tilt model, and I'm sure Yonkers didn't spec a split-tilt. And Yonkers has gone with a variety of different manufacturers of the years, such as HME, Smeal, ALF, Ward LaFrance, Seagrave, Continental, Mack, Ward 79, etc. Some of those were sole bidders as well. One of the main reasons Smeal wins the aerials is because they are one, if not the only, manufacturer that can provide rear mount aerials to operate on the extreme grades of Yonkers streets.
  12. They are using a Ford Econoline E-450 chasis (van cutaway). A few years ago, Ford updated the sheet metal on the front, giving it it's current and final style.

  14. I'm kind of conflicted on this one. If the rescuers missed the fact he was in the car and he really had to sit there for two hours, then maybe he has something. Otherwise, he's trying to make money off the people who made sure he wasn't pulled from the car dead. 16. Didn't FDNY do a study on this? They started using raised cabs on all their apparatus in recent years. Here's an interesting article against: http://www.iafc.org/onScene/article.cfm?ItemNumber=6336 I think it really comes down to the department's decision on what works for them. I mean, even a slight 10" raise helps. Also, they weren't wearing a seatbelt and get injured in a crash, that shouldn't be considered a LODI. A seat belt is part of your PPE.
  17. Members, I'm looking to update the feature photo on the EMTBravo.com cover page several times each week again. To do that, I need members to submit that one photo that would make a great "cover shot" for the site for a couple of days. Mainly, I'm looking for departments and apparatus in action. The photo MUST be YOUR photo that you took. Please include your name for credit and some details on the photo. If you have a photo for consideration as feature photo on EMTBravo.com, please send to: seth@emtbravo.com Thanks! -Seth G. seth@emtbravo.com *Please send only your BEST shots* Please do not take offense of your photo is not featured, as it may be because of the volume of photos we hope to receive. We will still keep your photo on file for potential future use.
  18. Enlightening information, excellent topic, especially for truckies. So, basically, what do you need to do if you open up quickly? Go with horizontal ventilation instead? On another note, I believe Ardsley's firehouse has solar panels on the roof.
  19. I agree, on scene IC vehicles should be marked conspicuously. I don't get all the "ghost" lettering and the such. I also feel it's a safety issue when it's black and not marked, there may be some nut job shooter potentially thinking it is the PD. And it's also less visible responding and on scene, especially without reflective striping. Unless you are the PD or have a real reason to be unmarked, the vehicle should be clearly and visibly lettered for the department and purpose. I guess with LED technology coupled with the diversity in locations you can place the light heads gives a real visibility advantage over past warning technologies. However, most of the staff admin chiefs and officials who have take home vehicles in Westchester and beyond use their cars everyday and respond in completely unmarked Crown Vic's, Tahoes, etc. I don't see how this is any different. But regardless, this is one of the most awesome Command vehicle setups I've seen in a long time.
  20. Thank you, Legislator for the update, and hope you will continue to keep us up to date. I heard Sam had his trach removed today.
  21. Congrats, Joe! You'll make an awesome Chief sooner then you think.....
  22. The Ferraras will begin construction soon. They will be on the Ultra chasis (similar to FDNY). Like the ALF's, they will be all stainless steel. The Tower Ladder bids are somewhere in the research/ preliminary procurement process. I know Smeal had brought a demo for Yonkers to check out recently. Seagrave is resurging in the area, I could see them getting Yonkers, but only if Yonkers doesn't need the ladder walkway. R1SmokeEater or one of our YFD members should know more about upcoming apparatus, and I hope they'll share if they are willing to.
