Some people have noted that there is a lot of "cut and paste" topics on this forum. I cut and paste topics because I want this to be a consolidated place to come and read relevant articles from local news sources, so our members don't have to go to the 10-15 news sites I visit everyday to collect content to present to this forum. Some of these articles that are "cut and pasted" into topics are also meant to be a spark for interested members to discuss what the article was about. This site is what you make of it, and if you complain about the "cut and paste" articles prevailing on this forum, then think of a good topic to discuss and post it, and encourage other members to post replies. -Seth G.

Regardless of any agendas, which there are, there are some operating efficiencies that could be created. There is a lot of duplication between the departments. Between the departments, there are: 2 Board Of Commisioners2 Chiefs2 Take Home Chiefs vehicles2 Desk Watch (Firefighters detailed to dispatch)2 Shift Commanders (per shift)2 Radio systems2 Spare Engines1 Spare Tower Ladder1 Spare Rescue2 Tower Ladders with only 1 man assigned to drive2 Engine companies with only 2, sometimes 3 men assigned8+ UtilitiesCan't any savings be found from eliminating the duplication? Here are some other bullet points: These departments already respond to each other's jobs automatically. The manpower in these two departments are in one union, Greenburgh Uniformed Firefighters Association. Their jurisdictions are also covered by one PD agency, one EMS agency (Greenburgh PD EMS), one Highway Department, one water/sewer department, and one school district. So, with that, what is the benefit of having two separate departments? Having two separate, yet very much the same, fire districts saves money? With that rationale, should FDNY separate into 5 departments to save money and improve efficiency?

Very unique articles and safety video. From: http://www.upworthy.com/when-people-die-on-the-job-in-accidents-what-really-happens?c=ufb9 Warning: graphic violence. These are actors and the accidents are animated, but the effect is the same as watching someone get seriously injured or killed.

I can only imagine how many lives were saved by this citizen who saw something suspicious and called 911. This kid was well prepared. How he amassed such an arsenal without notice is beyond me. The fact that he had been testing his bomb making skills is scary. Very scary. SOME QUOTES FROM THE FULL ARTICLE: Read more: http://www.startribune.com/local/257505631.html?page=1&c=y

What is the availability of this helicopter? And who staffs it? Also, to be Medevac capable, does NYS*DOH have to certify that like they do ambulances?

Are the Interceptor SUV's going to be assigned to to general patrol, or are they going to be assigned to special units or supervisors? I'm surprised they didn't use the SUV for the K-9 units, but the car is probably easier for the dog to get in and out of.

Cool article on how First Responder vehicles (Chief cars, flycars, etc) come to be and how installation works. Article: http://www.drivingline.com/2014/04/customizing-first-responder-vehicles/

AWESOME, AWESOME shots! So disappointed I didn't go this year! But your photos made up for that! Thank you! I love the new Ford Police Interceptor SUV's! Also love the new International/Ferrara TAC units. That last photo....the black truck with the large "roof rack"....what's that all about?

Thanks, Sgt! We appreciate and thank you for your time in bringing your knowledge to our forum. Your post helps everyone know more about your unit, and we hope that others in positions similar to you will do the same to clear up any future misconceptions and provide helpful information to the hundreds who will read and reference your post. I'm sure the information you posted will be called upon by many people in IC roles in the future. Also, as noted in other posts above, to note to members of the forum, please don't make a topic with an assumption that just because you don't hear a unit on the scanner, that it's no longer in operation. In other cases, it could be as simple as they changed the frequency they operated on, or your scanner is broken and no longer in operation lol.

I was working at R/M. No family up here, one of the reasons I will be moving is to be closer to what family I still have. Now that it's nice out, I like the city a lot more then when I moved here last November. It did snow a lot, but it's never really a big deal and I was very impressed by how quickly the city handles it. I live in the Corn Hill area, so I'm really close to just about everything. Just discovered Charlotte, never been that far down Lake Ave before. I don't know how I'm going to do without Wegmans, I love that store. Upstate NY is so different from downstate, I found most Rochester natives to be meaner (up front) then downstate and have a different kind of attitude. I love the history, just was taking photos of what remains of the Rochester Subway (transit not sandwich for people not from ROC lol) the other day. The only downside is there is still a lot of violent crime in the city, and a lot of abandoned house and vacant buildings, and remnant's of big industry, like Kodak, Xerox, etc. Makes for a VERY busy EMS system as you know. But still some very cool and nice areas. Very affordable too, probably one of the cheapest places in the country you can actually buy a decent home in a nice suburb. Would have never thought there was a portion of NY that was not rural that that was possible.
