Do any fire agencies in the area operate dewatering units, for use post-disaster such as Sandy?
-
Glad to see your kitbashes back on here Steve! Can't wait to see more in progress photos! You have an impressive talent. What is the story behind the "Supertrain" name?
-
Doesn't New Rochelle have a dewatering unit, Utility 95 out of Station 5? And this is several years ago, but Lake Mohegan Ladder 35 carried some salvage supplies, like a roll of plastic sheeting on a spool. Kinda cool because I've never really seen anything like that. Do they still carry that?

Did anyone else hear all those tones go out for a bee sting at Graham Hills Park in Pleasantville? Numerous fire departments and EMS agencies were sent, including Battalion 11? Is there something I am missing LOL?

A friend of mine had the chance to attend FRI 2014 in Dallas, TX this past week. He took photos of the apparatus on display there, and there are some unique pieces in the several page photo gallery Photos by Ben Saladino http://www.bensware.com/photos/FRI2014/index.html

If these agencies agreed on a protocol based system, such as EMD, that integrated with the CAD recommending units in a centralized dispatch system, it could have been quickly determined what level of response was needed by ruling out several factors. Let's not also forget the burden that a response like this places on a dispatcher(s), especially when having to call several other dispatch centers to get the units not dispatched by 60 Control started out, and then cancelled.

FDNY has this homebuilt simulator at their training facility on Randalls Island. Anyone know what type of connections are to the left of the standpipe simulator?

Thanks for the heads up to JVV. I wish I had the money for it, and I know it will find a good home. http://desplainesvalleynews.com/bedford-park-might-scrap-piece-of-firefighting-history-p1244-90.htm

Granted, Robin Williams death was tragic. He was a great man. However, there are numerous Soldiers, Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, Paramedics, EMT's, Dispatchers and just regular people that also are great people from all walks of life that commit suicide everyday and it goes unnoticed that there is an epidemic that has been going on for a long time. Many of us know people who ended their own life and only realized the signs and the fact that they should have done something after it was too late. And because a celebrity takes his own life, it gets noticed and all of a sudden, it's a big deal and everyone is talking about how people should help people contemplating suicide and their should be more attention given to the issue. But the fact of the matter is, once the Robin Williams media circus calms down, people will again forget about this silent killer and the stigma that prevents many from seeking help will return. People don't understand that suicide prevention is not something simple or easy to do. It's disgusting the way some EMS workers and Police Officers treat and label "EDP's"....even that term is wrong and hurtful, and I feel that contributes to many people in emergency services not seeking help. I also believe they fear being shunned for the rest of their careers should it make it to the gossip circuit or the kitchen table. There are some cruel people in our business who enjoy seeing their peers suffer. On a lager scale, our mental health and wellness care system is understaffed, underfunded, and unable to give people true tools to succeed in many cases. This is not something that's going to be or can be solved by giving people antidepressants. Contemplating suicide is a deep and dark place to be, and, in most situations, all it takes is one friend who truly cares to save a life. Sadly, there will always be people who lose all hope for their lives, feel very alone and uncared about in that moment, and don't see another way out or a path towards a happy future, and nobody will or can intervene at that point. In most cases, suicide is not an impulsive act.

With the tragic death of Robin Williams, it's unsettling to me how quickly a cause of death is released. How is the Coroner allowed to release the cause of death to the public without consent of the family? Medical information is protected by HIPPA, so how is it acceptable for such sensitive information to be released?

This is an actual combat veteran. Unless you see combat overseas, you don't get the credit, or that's at least how I understand it. The following says a lot:
-
He never flaunted his veteran status to get his job. As for the "self gratification", it's because of people like him during the entire course of our history in this country that we have the freedoms we do. We should be obliged to make sure our soldiers are well taken care of. Plus, the Police Chief, Mayor, and many taxpayers want him to serve in Sleepy Hollow. As for being a "mail clerk in Germany, he is a decorated veteran. He worked on Wall Street to earn income, and waited for an opening in Sleepy Hollow while on the Civil Service list. He was canvassed by many departments, but went through the entire process with Sleepy Hollow and the final stamp they needed was from the village trustees, who never have taken this kind of action before. Let's also not forget, although he is 35 he spent several years committed to the military, so during that time served he wasn't able to take the Civil Service test nor accept any officers due to his commitment.

Just a reminder, this event is next Tuesday. Space is still available for the seminar and demo . They will both be at the Westchester County Fire Training Center, with sessions at both 1300hrs and 1900hrs. I remember seeing a demo of this foam a while back, you have to see it in person to truly appreciate it as dwc said.

You guys make a good point. EDP is the accurate term, I can't think of another word to concisely describe it. I just feel it's implied by some as being derogatory and judgments are made without truly knowing what's going on in a persons life. This doesn't hold true with all EMS workers and LEO's, but I've seen my fair share of people who have been mistreated being in EMS for 15 years now. And, just because you can't see emotional wounds doesn't mean that they are not there. Not all illnesses can be seen. Many people don't seek help because of the stigma of mental illness. Sometimes people are hurting so bad you have to do more then preach to them a message. We talk about "brotherhood", but when someone is hurting are we going to remember or assume the stigma associated with EDP's or remember that brotherhood? How many people think that someone can easily just "get over it" or that it's something they can control? How many people have died because of that?

The Police Chief and Lieutenant wanted him hired, the residents of the Village wanted him hired, the Mayor wanted him hired, yet the board remained defiant. FULL ARTICLE: http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/westchester/2014/08/12/sleepy-hollow-denies-marine-job/13981305/

Los Angeles CITY FD Rescue Ambulance 51 2014 Dodge 4500/Northstar Emergency Vehicles Rescue 51 is dedicated to Los Angeles International Airport, and is the only lime ambulance in the fleet. It is identical to all LA City FD red front line ambulances with the exception of the color. It's associated engine company, a Seagrave, is also lime. Perhaps one of my favorite ambulances out there, as well as one of my most favorite photos I've taken. On a wierd side note, I had no recollection whatsoever of where and when I took this photo, and it was quite a surprise when I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago! Photos by me a couple of months ago. And if you're interested in California apparatus, be sure to check out EMTBravoWest.com
