I think it's coming shortly down the road, but want to see what everyone else thinks.....do you think technology such as drones.....no, not the military likes ones, I'm talking about small R/C units with Go-Pro cameras for instance....for size up? Maybe even pre-plan file footage? Would this be helpful in large scale industrial and commercial structures with areas of limited visibility to the IC? Is there a department out there yet officially using this technology? And yes, I am aware that some firefighters will be replaced with robots in the future that will also help with sizeup! (Before you call me an unrealistic idiot lol, I'm joking here, but the technology is already being worked on)

Based on credible information I have received from several different sources, Somers Fire District is looking to build a large new headquarters and Somers FD Firehouse on property near the current Somers State Police Barracks on Route 100. NYSP is looking to become a tenant in the building, with a brand new, modern, and greatly expanded barracks to replace their current Somers barracks. They have been looking at new locations in other communities for several years now, but this project will keep them in Somers. The bond package will be going out for a vote in the next few months, and construction is slated to start as soon as possible if approved. No word on what would become of Somers or Lincolndale firehouses or the current barracks as of yet, or what Fire/EMS apparatus will be assigned/reassigned where.

Hopefully, someone will pick up this film and get it circulated amongst the emergency services community much like "BURN" did.

They really aren't "toys". Yes, it may seem like (PD-wise) there is a lot of equipment, but if something big goes down those 'toys" will be saving lives. And WCPD had much of this equipment WAY before any of the local jurisdictions even considered obtaining their own. They were the first and only department in the area to have things such as a riot control unit, DWI Enforcement and prevention, and one of the first and only "Jaws Of Life" in Westchester County. Post-9/11 grants made it possible for many cities and municipalities to obtain their own equipment when it previously would have been financially impossible, and County PD used it to build and improve on what they already had. As far as municipalities that have a lot of specialized equipment and units, Greenburgh has a lot of their own. WCPD and their SOD not only supports and trains with the "big cities", but nearly all jurisdictions in the county. They cover both primary jurisdictions (Westchester County facilities like Playland, all County Parks, the County Office building, the County Center, the Medical Center/Grassland Campus, Westchester Community College, and HPN Westchester County Airport. They also cover busy contracted highways, and are the primary PD's for the Town Of Ossining, Cortlandt, and Village of Mount Kisco). They also work protective details at many high profile events in Westchester, and maintain security of the massive infrastructure in the county. And, it doesn't matter whether it's a "big city" or not. Incidents as like Newtown and Eastchester PD Officer Michael Frey are a tragic example of something that could happen anywhere. The Eastchester incident made aware the need for specialized equipment and training in Westchester. There have been many stories over the past few years where WCPD resources have been credited with saving lives and apprehending suspects, as well as preventing and interrupting criminal acts. Many local jurisdictions depend on WCPD's specialized shared services every day, and all county citizens and visitors benefit from it. Take a close look at the WCPD vehicles and the equipment they carry. They get used, it's quite obvious. And a lot of time has been invested into training personnel so they always have proper staffing in a timely manner 24/7. I hope one day I am extended the privledge to photograph some of their equipment to illustrate what they are capable of. The only level that County PD disappointed me on was the disbanding of the mounted unit. Mounted units are a great and positive outreach tool for law enforcement-public relationships....especially nowadays. Mounted units are also great at crowd control and just their visibility can be very intimidating and a deterent to many. I hope they bring it back someday. For more reading, the following link details all the different specialized units within WCPD, and many aren't even in the everyday public eye: http://publicsafety.westchestergov.com/shared-services-sp-139

But two separate agencies with two different missions. And a lot of grant money LOL.

I just wanted to note whether it matters or not...........9A is a very windy, hilly, bumpy, and heavily trafficked by large trucks taking up both lanes at times. A Code 3 trip to the hospital would make it even harder, as in many places on that road drivers have no where to pull over. Lifestar initially gave a less the 12 minute ETA. Given the traction splint the was out, I'm guessing he had at least one fracture.

' What should they respond in? The truck carries equipment for the incidents and purposes described below, and is critical to the response of the SRT.

Stamford is not the city it once was. The old system is not going to work in this booming city anymore. This picture illustrates that nicely. The old Stamford Hospital on the left, and the new Stamford Hospital due to open in 2016 on the right:

From the former WFAS FM in Hartsdale, which is now defunct and has become a new station focused on "urban programming" by parent company conglomerate Cummulus Media, with broadcast facilities in the Bronx. The 1230 AM station will continue to broadcast from Hartsdale. Is there a difference between an AM tower and FM tower? I wonder why WFAS would replace it, as it's in very good shape and can be seen from throughout central Westchester. I remember listening to WFAS exclusively for snow days, before the internet and all that.

Do any fire agencies in the area operate dewatering units, for use post-disaster such as Sandy?
