Cool new law. Another way to get this information is to assume that a majority of new homes are comprised of truss and pre engineered wood, which I've found to be mostly true. I wonder how this will proactively be enforced. FULL ARTICLE: http://patch.com/new-york/rivertowns/new-state-law-will-protect-first-responders-dealing-home-fires-0#.VB9feRF0zIU

I'm not so understanding of this story...is this a shelter in place thing that got misinterpreted or misused? I'm sure no one in the know can comment on this, but shouldn't the district notify or work with the FD of this? From the sounds of the article...the school district didn't take any proactive measure on this issue. Some more very interesting information on the incident: http://www.newrochelletalk.com/content/new-rochelle-school-district-slapped-26-million-dollar-federal-lawsuit-failing-evacuate-whee (also has extensive background information regarding the last incident and the US Justice Department actions and the case settlement) Note the picture of ConEd dealing with the outside underground transformer fire in front of the school. Wonder if any of that smoke made it to the third floor? Seems like the district's pants were on fire as well. Some quotes:

Receiving reports that numerous Friendly's across the area, including Mt. Kisco and Yorktown Heights, have permanently closed. Can anyone confirm? If it is, it's a sad day for nostalgia and for places that you can have onion rings and a Fribble as a meal. I wish Friendly's did more to keep themselves relevant and competitve, especially now when they're up against chains such as Applebee's. 10 Reasons Friendly's Is The Best Chain Restaurant In The Country

Firefighters should not be getting injured like this. Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved, especially the firefighter who's in critical condition in the burn unit. Full article: http://news.yahoo.com/ice-bucket-challenge-goes-awry-firefighters-hurt-215238496.html

Does an ambulance or fly car, holding NYS*DOH certification, have to have NY registration/plates? Are dealer or temporary plates acceptable? And, can it be registered out of state and hold out of state plates?

I love this photo I got the other day, and wanted to share it on here. I'd been dying to get a photo of COHPD's new Ford Police Interceptor SUV's, and the other day I was driving by Engine 119-Tanker 10 Washington Engine hoping the tanker was out to get a photo, and saw this. Took 2 seconds to photograph, and turned out to be a great shot when I downloaded the photo. And I'm going to use this opportunity to shamelessly plug my photo pages, you can like it if you want to see photos like this posted fresh everyday, x635Photos on Facebook , Seth Granville-x635Photos on Flickr, and x635Photos.com Croton-On-Hudson PD enforcing traffic laws.

After seeing a wide variety of number of personnel that are included in the factory visits for apparatus under-construction visits, what is generally a good number? I was looking at photos of one FD's factory visit, and they had 10 people there. It seems, to me, that number of people would be more a hindrance then a help. I would think that the four people from the committee would be a good number. Even if there's more members from the committee, those 4 should know what the committee wants, and be enough to represent that committee. And how many visits is appropriate? I know some departments require the dealers to pay for the visits, so would smaller numbers mean a small savings on the price? Also, what's a good number of people that should be on an apparatus committee, and who should they be? (Chief, Captain, Mechanic, etc.)

I know, right! Me too! I had a collection of photos that I clipped out of the Reporter Dispatch as a kid in the 80's and 90's, and I can't find them now. I'd love to be able to go back and see some of his work from the 80's and 90's again, and I know hundreds and probably thousands of others would love to see it as well. Especially those who weren't lucky enough to grow up having his photos delivered to your driveway each morning in a printed newspaper before the internet era. It's overwhelming how awesome his photos are, and not just the fire ones either. One of my favorites was a seemingly simple photo he took of deer in Brewster in the late 80's or early 90's. Everything about the photo was perfect. He inspired a large part of my love of photography. I wish I had enough money to purchase the entire collection of his film and digitals from Gannett. Just did a quick Google search, here's a sampling of some of his awesome photos that shows the talent, depth, and the diversity: CLICK HERE TO VIEW

I'm just pissed off beyond belief at Paul Feiner's words (Quoted below). See my reply a couple of posts above, as my comments are still relevant to this latest self-serving crap coming out of his mouth. Maybe this bullet fragment this woman claimed hit her wouldn't have been an issue if she hadn't bought a brand new million dollar house that they tore down an entire forest to build and not done her homework to see that the shooting range was there before she moved, and before she was even born. Below is the link to the police report regarding the shooting range. http://www.greenburghny.com/Documents/Pistol%20Range%20Redacted%20Investigative%20Report%20with%20Photos,%20Ballistic%20Reports.pdf And this is his commentary on the matter. I get pissed off just posting it, but it just proves my point about when he doesn't like something personally, he railroads it out, and usually affects businesses that have been in the community for decades (like Mickey's Hot Dog stand on Jackson Ave- there for decades with no problems that he tried to force out before public out roar -note it was down the street from his million dollar condo community- as is the shooting range): This past June a woman complained that she was struck by a bullet from the Westchester County Police Revolver and Rifle Range on Ardsley Road. She had a small abrasion on her knee. The gun range had been leasing the property from Con Ed for many years. Con Ed terminated the lease this summer and the range has been shut down. I received the attached police report from the police department earlier today. The investigation found that some of the fragments that had ben tested "cannot forensically confirm" that content came from the range. However the investigators found numerous rounds and lead fragments outside the range. The complete report and photos of the fragments that were found outside the range can be found in the report.

Interesting article, especially with the increasing trouble of getting rigs on the road. As far as a quick knockdown of a Class A fire, isn't the can a truck company position? This seems like it would be a neat tool to have: : FULL ARTICLE: http://www.firerescue1.com/fire-products/fire-apparatus/articles/1970355-Should-all-fire-trucks-carry-water/

He was found safely this afternoon in Coney Island in Brooklyn. The family credits social media in being able to track him down.

I was able to CONFIRM, at least for tonight, that the Friendly's in Carmel (across from Hannaford Supermarket, across from Wendys on Route 6 C/S Stoneleigh Ave) is STILL OPEN! Besides the Fribble, this is what I will miss most about having a Friendlys nearby and I hope Carmel will stay open so I can continue to enjoy it....what is your favorite Friendly's meal? Friendly's Turkey Club Super Melt Sandwich Crisp bacon and melted American cheese layered over warm turkey breast with tomato and Thousand Island dressing on grilled sourdough bread
