  9. Town Of Greenburgh, NY Police Department Central Repair Truck 144 2015 Dodge Ram 5500 4x4/Vulcan The Central Repair Garage is located at the Town Garage, and is responsible for maintaining the entire fleet of the Police department, as well as the enormous fleet of other departments within the Town. They do mostly all work in house, from oil changes to complete motor and transmission rebuilds, striping, body repair and repainting, etc. From small sedans to heavy tandem axle Mack dump and garbage trucks, payloaders, buses, ambulances, police cars, tractors, rescue trucks, you name it, they repair it. This replaces a 1995 Chevrolet/Chevron which has been disposed of.

  11. There's this cool new show on CNBC called "Jay Leno's Garage". It explores all kinds of vehicles and driving, and is fun to watch. In Episode 5 (it repeats all the time on CNBC, and is available on demand), he gets a chance to drive a San Francisco Tiller. He equates it to "driving a two story building" Here's a clip: https://www.facebook.com/jaylenosgarage/videos/1037083949657241/
  12. A heroic job by the first arriving White Plains PD Officers and FD on rescuing two victims from this fire. Sadly, a baby died in this fire after being rescued and transported to the hospital. I am glad I could capture the heroism and compassion of the White Plains Police and Fire Departments in this situation. I arrived shortly after the first line was stretched. I'm sorry for the crappy photo quality, I was actually in the area experimenting with and learning a new lens Click here to read the Incident Alert
  13. I'm looking to see who has protocols on this. This mostly affects urban departments that send an engine on first response. If 95% of your department is out on fire-related calls, do you still send the one engine you have left in the city on an EMS first response? Excluding if it's a critical call, like a cardiac arrest. What happens if a higher priority fire call comes out before you get to the scene? Do you divert to the fire call?
  14. North White Plains has acquired, from US Army Surplus at Fort Drum, a 1997 Stewart & Stevenson LMTV Cargo Truck M-1078. It is in excellent mechanical condition, is 4x4, has an Allison automatic transmission, and has a variety of useful features. It will be designated "Utility 147". It was delivered last Friday. Also, they will be taking delivery of a 1993 Freightliner/Saulsbury medium duty rescue that previously saw service in Centereach NY in the next week to replace the former Rescue 33, which has been disposed of. Stay tuned to EMTBravo for photos of the new Rescue 33. Photo by me

  19. I know some of you will think this is wrong and dangerous, but I am an animal lover and think what this fire company did is take a calculated risk to be humane to a suffering bird. They did a great job and got some good PR in the process.
  20. I absolutely agree with your comments and they are well worded. This situation is extremely disturbing. However, what I was trying to say that, in the meantime, the responsibility to protect the citizens and their property by maintaining equipment cannot be interfered with, although it should be done with intense outside oversight.
  21. I think cutting funding (prematurely, IMHO) for new apparatus and equipment unfairly punishes the Mahopac firefighters as a whole, as well as the community they protect. They still need tools to do their job to properly protect the citizens. Cutting funding for these items also compromises firefighter and EMT safety. Running a fire department and EMS service of that size ain't cheap. The financial issues are of serious concern. They have failed in their responsibility and trust they have placed in them by the taxpayers to spend the money appropriately, and account for where it is going. A few thousand is one thing, but having $5 million dollars go missing over 10 years and have no one notice, that's a situation that needs deep investigation and serious reform. All the details have yet to be presented, so it's hard to speculate how it actually occurred and who needs to be held accountable for all facets of this. I'm sure we'll find that out in the coming months. However, until the investigation and forensic accounting is completed, I don't think slashing funding by the town, not replacing a tanker, not maintaining the current fleet, and not maintaining the stations is a smart move and is premature. In the end, it punishes the taxpayers more. Not giving the Mahopac Firefighters and EMT's the equipment they need to do their job just hurts everyone all around. But, these items do need serious oversight by an outside party until everything is back in order. As does how they spend their money and on what. Maybe freezing spending, on things such as social items, would be more wise. For example, $77,000 yearly on parades is a lot of money, and a compromise would show good faith in the meantime. In the end, transparency will be key in regaining taxpayer trust.
