I thought the Evolution was ugly when it first came out, but it's kinda growing on me.I'm starting to dig it. Plus any rig that says "Paramedic Engine" is ok in my book, lol!

Just saw this on News 12. It's always nice to see a community turn out like that to support their fellow neighbors who lost everything. I'm sorry I couldnt be there this evening, but it looks like you had plenty of people otherwise!

Well said!!!! I like the term "Ladder Tender", which is the term I always used when referring to Kisco's CST. In fact, I think the concept would still do well in the modern day WC fire service. Communities which dont exactly warrant a full-out truck company, well, at least not yet, such as Croton Falls, Vista, etc, a Ladder Tender/CST would be just right. Also, I found this topic has been discussed a few months ago, for further insight, click here: http://emtbravo.just5buckshosting.com/phpB...topic.php?t=318

A possible solution to keeping a single "Truck" designation and differentiating between types would be to make SS's 1-50, and Tower Ladders 50-99, or something similar. Also, just to add on as to using a bucket to evacuate victims. I feel it's alot safer to evacuate the victims via a moving bucket then to make the people walk down the aerial, a risky thing to do, especially if it is wet/icy or you are evacuating children or the elderly. The drawback to this is you may not be able to evacuate as many victims as quick.

As I've said before, an Engine should be an Engine, a Ladder a Ladder etc. Whether it is a tower or SS, it should be able to perform the job of a truck company. Since there is a ton of TL's in the WC here, IC's should know what they are requesting without having to refer to the name, which I will expand on in a moment. There should be, IMO, some clarification to the designation system in this county I.E. Adding a Cascade Desgination, and unifying ALL L's and TL's to a single truck desgination. Yes, I do mean "Truuck #". I personally feel this would consitently remind people in this county that it is a truck and their purpose is truckwork. When some people say ladder, they get tunnelvision and seem to think only of the stick on top and nothing else. Not to mention it would be a heck of alot buffier, lol. As for a single Truck designation, IC's should know what type of apparatus they are requesting, and if they don't, then they should not be IC. (within a normal scale incident) For "non-conformists", who do whatever they want on the radio system, that shows lack of respect for everyone. For a County that should be showing a drive to work together, not conforming to a set countywide standard only drives people further apart, and creates more confusion. I've had people say "It's really no big deal". I feel it kinda is. It, IMO, sets off a chain of events. If one person starts doing it, then it rolls downhill and control is lost. There is absolutely no way for the county to really enforce anything, so it's basically a free-for-all. It's fine how people wanna refer to their apparatus in person or on the rig,etc.....but to be profesional on a radio system my feeling is that conforming to a standard way of operations is the only way to do something.

Regardless if their are assigned riding positions or not, and despite whether it is a career or volunteer department, ALL FF's on a responding apparatus should have an assigned postion/duty upon arrival. Too many times have I seen everybody jump off a rig, and go for a nozzle,or Hurst tool, while other tasks are neglected. Not only does this lead to accountability issues, but also leads to a disorganized, chatotic scene. When I used to ride, when we had a good crew, we would determine who did what prior to arrival as time permitted enroute, and based on dispatch information, and then upon 10-84, initiated those tasks. One of the components that went into this decision is the FF's experience, and ideally a inexperienced FF was teamed up with an experienced FF (again, as levels permitted) in order to help the member learn. "Firm" riding positions, or seat assignments, only work well when you have a steady crew, IMO, such as personell assigned to that rig for the day that know each others strengths and weakness', and duties can be pre-determined. Also, for this to be fully effective, you can't ride with 2 or 3 guys, all positions must be filled. I can only imagine the fights that must go into getting the "Nozzle" chair, lol. One barrier to this though, is a rig with a "doghouse" engine. This hinders the ability to plan your attack. This is where the headsets come into play, lol. As for career departments who ride with an engine, truck, rescue concept, with appropriate staffing, I beleive in the riding assignment concept. For volunteer departments, where crews and how the crews arrive may vary greatly for each department, it should be the responsibitly of the officer on board to know his crew and assign duties prior to arrival . Having well trained, experienced, and competent leadership is critical to this concept.

Nice! Does Fort Worth run their Quints as Engines, Trucks, or (cringing) both?

I went by Bedford Village Firehouse yesterday, and as beautiful as it is, it is obviously outdated and obsolete. Everything is packed in there. I am curious as well, does anyone in the Bedford area know the status of this project?

I remember that program, it think it was actually a study. I worked there when it started around '98......I dont know what type of program it was, all I remember right now is John Wood and Dr. Derobertis teaching the class at St. Joes, and the paperwork that went along with a clearance. I didnt get the final results of the study, but I remember some in-progress results as backboarding going up, as DG said. I will see if I can find the training and paperwork on this study when I finally get unpacked.

I could use that $10,000 in many ways. I would use the money for: 1. Purchase of an additonal AED to remain in the firehouse. 2. Make available a personal trainer to Firefighters who want to improve their "cardiac lifestyle" and improve their endurance, or supplement gym memberships. 3. Give an in-house CFR class for all FF's, and bring department equipment up to CFR level. 4. Issue all firefighters small flashlights, door chock, leatherman, rope bag, spanner, window punch, extrication gloves, BSI gloves, and a pocket reference guide I think it's spent for the most part now.
