  1. I think Somers U-5 is sorta a basic Traffic Control Vehicle.
  2. Based on existing molds they already have and have replicated similar, I have come up with these that they could do: Bedford Hills Tower Ladder 57, Dobbs Ferry Tower Ladder 23, Peekskill Tower Ladder 45, Town Of Mamaroneck Ladder 19, Yonkers Ladder 72, Yonkers PD ESU REP, Thornwood Tower Ladder 1, Elmsford Tower Ladder 21, Yonkers Engine 306 NEW ALF, Hartsdale Engine 171, Westchester County PD or Yonkers PD Command Unit, Yonkers Mack CF Aerialscope 77 or 75, White Plains Engine 70, Somers Engine 180, 181 and TL-18, Larchmont TL-7, Harrison Engine 12, Mamaroneck Engine 38, Mount Kisco TL-14 What's been done in Westchester so far.......Port Chester Tower Ladder 2, Verplank Suburban, Harrsion Engine 11 x 2, Yonkers Mack Engine 306, Yonkers Tower Ladder 71 Am I forgetting anyone in either category?
  3. I was curious to see what everybodys' agencies qualifications and minimum age was. At a recent parade, I saw several Engines and tankers being driven by 18 and 19 year olds. Is it me, or is that age too young? How do the insurance companies allow those ages as well? In one town I know, the VAC you can't start driving the bus until 23 because of insurance, yet you can drive a fire truck or engine at 18. I think an appropriate age to start driving is 23, or maybe 21 then with a 2 year driving internship. It's my opinion that driving is a skill gained by time and experience. To let a person that young drive a large truck is risky, not only for the safety of the crew and others, but also what if there were to be an accident and the media were to find out? Also, that 18-23 year old firefighter should be getting experience as a firefighter, not sitting at the control panel. Minimum requirments for drivers (again, my opinion): -23 Years of age and mature -Clean, immaculate driving record -6 month-1 year "internship" -Pertinent Courses -Random drug testing -Pass both a rigorous departmental written and practical examination -CDL? This doesn't really apply too much to most career departments, as the driving is left to the senior man in most cases.
  4. Worst thing Saulsbury ever did was sell to E-One. Another great fire truck company, and upstate NY town, becomes the victim of corporate America  Just to add, Saulsbury closed in 1998 when they sold, in my eyes. E-One ruined this great innovative and legendary company.
  5. Horrible incident, and one that was preventable with education at that. ALS summed it up pretty well. I'm interested in that last line about the Transcyte burn treatment. Gotta go find some information about that, but if it works, I wonder if the WMC Burn Unit will ever try it or if its even used around here at any of the burn centers. Sounds like it could really help.
  6. Great article!! Thanks for the links. They really have a great trauma system down there, too bad lessons down there wont work there way up here.
  7. If you do a google search about this, the protocols that I found that addressed situations like this stated to only remove an impaled object if it intereferes with CPR and/or the airway. If you think about it though, if the object is lodged in a major vessel, and you do CPR , what damage are you doing to that vessel in the process...so it is a double edged sword in a way. I will try and find out from a real trauma team and trauma surgeons next time I am in Worcester.
  8. good scenario!!! Hmm, I liked MikeRabbits way of thinking lol. I'd ask the medic. Oh, wait a second! Darn!! Uh, according to some texts I read, you have to remove the object if it interferes with CPR. That does make sense, since you'd problay be repeatedly stabbing the guy if you did CPR around it. It's a double edged sword (The scenario, not the object, lol) Also to note, if you're not going to do CPR, dont do ACLS meds. They won't get circulated. Even though, chances are, where the location of the injury is, they will get bled out before they do any good. Easy way out, I'd contact Medical Control. I'm curious why FDNY does not allow the AED for traumatic arrest? I have some ideas. Do they allow regular defib for traumatic arrests?
  9. Code 3 announced yesterday at Code 3 day at Westchester Collectibles an limited edition FDNY Rescue set of 1/64th die-cast replicas of each 2002 E-One/Saulsbury Rescues. They will be sold as a set of 5, and come with a special display. Other releases announced for Q3 (as per virtual Code 3 day): FDNY Ladder 26 Chicago Pierce Dash Rear-Mount Ladder Chicago O'Hare Airport E-One Tower Kansas City E-One Tower Cincinnati E-One Rearmount Ladder Los Angeles PD LDV Command Vehicle Jacksonville Freightliner Tanker And the afformentioned FDNY Rescue Set Also announced, next year, they will be releasing a classic Seagrave K-tiller. Pre-ordering begins Monday for club members. More information can be found at C3's website: www.code3.net Overall, I'm very happy personally with this quarter, although my wallet is not, lol. However, I'm still waiting for the Yonkers REP to be released, but I'm sure we will see it sooner or later!!
  10. Jacksonville rolled Tanker 31. Code 3 will be replicating Tanker 28. I believe Jacksonville has approx 10 of these style Freightliner/Pierce tankers in their fleet as well. Tanker 31 was delcared a complete loss, but will be replaced by a similar model. Also, while on the subject of Jacksonville FD, they will soon be starting to accept delivery of several new Pierce Dash engines.
  11. Bump for tommorow night.

  15. Reminder: Another one of my favorite shows, the New England Chiefs Association Expo, is being held this weekend in West Springfield, MA. It's about a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive from the WC. Rumor has it that the new Stamford Engine 1 (2004 HME/"Ahrens Fox") and Boston Ladder 15 (2004 Pierce Dash RM) will be there. Also huge apparatus-only parade on the AM of the 27th. For more information, visit: http://www.newenglandfirechiefs.org/
  16. Another year, another excellent show. However, IMO, they do have the room to expand a little to allow some more vendors and space. Some highlights for me (See the photos on EMTBravo.com): -Stamford's new Engine 5. Nothing too impressive on the engine, and I was actually horrified by some choices (one is the lighting package :-( ) but since I like the Stamford FD, it was a highlight. -Yarmouth's Pierce Tower Quint -Oxford EMS's new Ambulance. Fully loaded and custom by Medix Ambulances for only $87,000. I'm not sure about the construction quality or materials, or the "Carson" siren, lol. -Pierce Arrow XT Rescue Demo. Similar to what's going to Providence, RI, and the Arrow XT is an awesome rugged chasis with a nice layout. -The Seagrave Attacker Meanstick. Nice rig, and the two new sales reps were awesome as well. -Smeal Altair, Smeals new spartanlike chasis -ALF Eagle Rearmount Tower, Fun Ride in the bucket!!! (The TL rides are probaly the best part of the show! hehe) -Phoenix Engine. What a progressive awesome design! -Firematic B.R.A.T What an awesone brush truck! -The Vacum tanker! Amazing, it pulls in a whole tank of water in less than a minute. There was a ton more, but thats all that comes to mind right now. Also, another highlight was catching the Avon Parade on the way home. Cool town and parade.
  17. Engine 13 is to be replaced. Engine 11 will remain (Another Beautiful Mack CF preserved for a little while longer!! And in a couple weeks, it, in both forms, will be sitting on my shelf)
  18. I've also heard LMFD VFA will be restoring their 1932 Mack?
  19. When you say ARD's, are those the EMS Dispatchers in Maspeth? Does FDNY do a full EMD program?
  20. Some cool classic photos on this site! http://www.weegee.org/
