  1. Thanks for the heads up! I may actually take a trip down there.
  2. Apparently, Transcare (Formerly Metrocare) is now pushing into Dutchess County.
  3. Check this out! Seems pretty cool....... http://www.strongarmfirefighting.com/
  4. Pushing, moving, expanding, whatever, lol. Didn't mean it that way. Competion is definetly a good thing in the commercial for-profit EMS business. However, it would've been smarter,IMO, for Wappingers to create their own EMS, instead of having a for-profit commerical entity provide it. They don't contract out for their PD or FD, do they? When you provide your own service, you have better control over its quality and operations. And let's not forget Transcare AKA Metrocare is still new to the area, lol!
  5. Coincidentally, I actually passed right by where this happened a few hours prior. What a horror of an incident. I don't even know what to say either.
  6. If you're over 18, just take the little extra time and become an EMT...CFR is just the first 40 hours of EMT anyways..... See my comments here: http://emtbravo.just5buckshosting.com/phpB...opic.php?t=1909
  7. Just a reminder to anybody remotely considering taking this class whether you take it here or elsewhere..... Even if you're "just a firefighter".....It's not a hard course at all, it's a great tool to add to your training aresenal, and it also looks great on a resume. Especially if you are aiming to be a career FF.
  8. I hear IFC was running the dishwasher all day long the next day. CFD even brought in mutual aid glasses. LOL.
  9. Awesome! Who's frequency is that around here? Also, I once was told you can hear 46.26 loud and clear from the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Too bad you can't hear it loud and clear from many parts of this county.
  10. I've noticed it in a couple of EMS publications as well...looks good from what I can tell.....too bad it's not a front 3/4 shot......anyone seen one of those yet?
  11. Just doing some browsing around on the web, and found this... http://www.thelunatick.com/ems/JFK.htm Pretty cool. I always knew PAPD had an ambulance at JFK, but I never knew anything about these "JFK Medical" flycars. Anyone got any further information? Is this staffed by Vinnies? (I love airport operations and airplanes, so just curious) (I also love the "This equipment pays your salary...take care of it" sticker inside the cab.)
  12. Thanks for the info....I wonder if the airport detail is a pretty fun detail at JFK like at my old job. :-k

  14. My condolences to Chief Byrnes, Mike, and Trudy...and the rest of your family on your loss.
  15. Just came across a mention and a few samples from this book while reading a magazine.....looks somewhat interesting and unique. (I also kind like "old time" LA) Even has the foreword by the LAPD Police Chief, William Bratton. I ordered the book, I'll let you know what I think of it when I get it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846
  16. An example of kitbashing: Somebody buys one of Code 3 Collectible's Mack CF releases like this one: http://www.code3.net/product/detail.asp?item=12500 Then they chop it up, remodel and add stuff, and repaint it......to make it look like, lets say, Engine 119. LOL
  17. Thanks for the info! Seems like it would make a GREAT Ladder for White Plains, except for the Dash chasis, lol.
  18. Nice pics!! San Fransico seems like an extremly traditional department. Also seems like they got some oldies for rigs. I hear they don't even wear bunker gear
  19. The Westchester County Fire Museum. Oh, wait...........
  20. One of the nicest, largest, and most luxurious firehouses I have ever seen. A ton of bathrooms too, lol!
  21. It sounds SO good, I really want to go see it. LOL, by the time my shcedule frees up though, it'll be out on DVD!
  22. I think it's the Highway Pattrol cops who have more of a problem with Fire Apparatus then EMS. Sometimes for a logical reason, though. As for me, for the most part, no problem here. Gives us a couple extra hands, can manage hazards, lighting where neccasary and provide traffic control. The main reason though......it's nice to have that big, red, flashy barricade....(when the driver actually positions the rig appropriately) A side note- while removing a patient from a vehicle a few weeks ago after a seemingly minor MVA, the vehicle cabin started to smoke mid-removal. NO smoke or smell was present beforehand. Turned out the car had caught fire. This was about 7-9 minutes AFTER the impact...and 4 minutes AFTER they had opened the hood and disconnected the battery...thankfully, the FD was on scene.
  23. Well, I saw the new WMC ED for the first time yesterday, and was extremly dissapointed. One of the first things I noticed, was that the EMS report writing area/office, which appeared pretty nice has already been converted into some other staffs office. The sign was covered up. WTF is the deal with that? That annoyed me.... The second thing......this ER is no bigger. Same size as the old ED, maybe even a little smaller. The layout stinks, theres no ryme or reason to the flow......the hallways are narrow, crowded, and windy, with tons of doors to have to get a stretcher through. You have to go to twenty diffent places to accomplish one task. Also, all ambulance transports now have to trek through the ED to get anyplace else in the hospital. Trauma bays are right there, though. The ambulance bay....prbaly going to be very tight when it gets busy, very small as well. It doesn't even look attractive IMO. So much for a modern, progressive ED. Just my .03 cents.
