  2. OK Then, LOL ( I love 183, just not as a Rescue Pumper) Out of curiosity, would a Searave Lo-pro RM fit???? Also, by saying a "unique vehicle", I can only assume that this means Somers FD will be getting a Helicopter. 3 out of the 4 stations have the room for a helipad.....either that, or the world's first tiller-brush truck....now hows that for a crazy idea!!! Regardless of me getting of topic, It's sad to see Somers getting rid of a piece filled with such history, but also kinda cool to see that they are getting their fleet updated. This rigs deserves a retirment party.
  3. LOL, give it a few more years and Somers won't need any brush trucks!! My two hopes for Somers FD Brush trucks: (although I'm not happy about the disposal of another classic) 1. Convert/Rehab 183 into a Brush truck 2. Unimog!!! http://www.unimogtrucks.com/products/firefighting.asp And my third hope for Somers: 3. Pierce Arrow XT 75' RM Ladder w/ 1250gpm pump and 500 gallon tank.
  4. Yup, I'm glad some people still reconize my voice, lol! I was 45-Medic-Dispatch (LOL).....I came off the road Sat to fill in for a dispatcher who was very ill so he could go home and get some rest. (My agency, Westchester EMS-Stellaris Health, provides communications services for the Somers Fire District, under contract, from SFD HQ's in Lincolndale) I also worked last Sat. It's actually a lot more complicated job at times dispatching Somers than it seems..any dispatching job for that matter, but for the purpose of this thread, uniquely so in Somers....extreme multitasking, and everything has to be done 100% right at exactly the right time. There's a lot of different things to remember, and a lot of manual tasks to be done. They certainly do expect high performance out of their radio dispatchers, and hold them accountable for their actions. With that said, being I'm still learning the system, hoping I did a good job, hopefully I can stop hiding from 2441 and 2442 and not get banned from seeing 185,lol!
  5. Thanks for the updates. What chasis will they be on,Ferrara's Inferno,Igniter,Ultra, Spartan, HME, or other???? Also, suprising P'ville went from a Cadillac to a Ford. I would've thunk Pierce or ALF wouldve been next.
  6. Very, very disappointing news. Now, I understand there are a lot of agencies that operate Wheeled Coach and are satisfied. However, most of these places, they are the low-bid winner, or people don't any better. With the excpetion of LA City's ambulances (which are built completly differently then the regular wheeled coachs) Also, look how many repeat customers WC has had in the WC. Those who bought once never bought again. Harrison, Eastchester, Empress, Transcare/Metrocare, etc etc. I've seen several photos of Wheeled Coach modules involved in MVA's, and the mods just disintergrate. And what bothers me the most about Wheeled Coach, is, put it up side to side with another quality manufacturers product, and you can actually FEEL the construction differences. You guys must be happy with Wheeled Coach, if you voted for it. (or members who dont actively ride have way too much of a say). Mohegan EMS, being as busy as they are, and being a volunteer agency, shocks me that they would put price over quality. ScarVac and EFD EMS, SAME thing. There are plenty of other great quality brands out there besides Wheeled Coach, that you could probaly get a similar value for, especially if you bought a demo. Lifeline, Road Rescue, MedTec, Braun, Excellance, Horton, etc. Oh well, best of luck with it.
  7. If only I had some extra money and a big garage, lol!!! E-90 is the twin, and you guys will still have that, right?
  8. Does anybody have the IPN service? www.incidentpage.net If so, what are your opinions of it? Do they do a good job of putting out Westchester County FIRE incidents? I noticed they also raised their monthly fee, so is it worth it?
  9. Are the ambulances even going to be allowed to post at this station, or is it going to be like all others stations and the bus will have to go to a CSL?
  10. Congrats, when delivery to be expected?
  11. Oh, in addition to my above post.........EMD for the most part IMO is useless if we are not going to use it to Priority dispatch. EMD IS NOT JUST PRE-ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!! We need to realize that there is more to EMD than just that!!
  12. I want to say a million things in response to this topic, but I'm too tired to type it all. The way the 911 phone and radio system in this county works is not only embarrasing, but it is quite dangerous to us all. How can we continue to live like this? I don't see anything improving anytime soon in this county. Before any change can come, the county needs to step up to the plate, and prove to the field people that they want to and are capable of handling a centralized 911 operation. The way the things run now, its not possible. By this I mean they need to enact legislation, improve facilities and equipment, better organize and supervise their communications operations, enact standard protocols for everyone, improve training, improve agency relations/public outreach and most importanly, improve pay and increase morale for the 60 Control dispatchers. These guys and gals jobs are incredibly high stress and complicated, and continue to get more so each day with all the different ways of doing things in this county, and by the total lack of respect, appreciation, and thanks that they get by those in the field and others.. People in the field need to learn to put aside their control issues, make comprimises, and learn to work together. And respect each other on the air. And be professional on the air. Another thing to consider....how much time and money is spent by the agencies that choose to dispatch themselves????? Money that could probaly be better allocated elsewhere. Unfortunetly, simple nursery school principles are out, and chaos is in. A professional, organized, allied, responsive communications system, what keeps holding us back????? Beuracracy and tradition, IMO. I'm not going to even get into the radio system...........yet. LOL
  13. Sounds like a fun oppurtunity
  14. Ladder 49 would have made an awesome TV series as well, had they not killed Jack. :-(
  15. I LOVE their ALF Rescue pumper!! http://www.goshennyfd.org/apparatus/images...s/large/931.jpg
  16. I feel this article is excellent. I posted it a couple months ago, and I think it deserves a repost. One of the things that bothers me most in the Westchester County Fire Service is the way some people think about dispatchers, and how underappricated and misunderstood their job is, especially in a county as fragmented and complicated as Westchester. I found this editorial by Chief Billy G. from an excellent site, www.firefighterclosecalls.com, and it's definetly worth a read.
  17. Well, I finally saw Ladder 49. Shawshank Redemption gets bumped to #2, Ladder 49 is now my all-time favorite movie!!! It was very exciting, inspirational, and also very, very sad. I absolutely hated the ending, but at the same time, it reflected a harsh reality. As for the technical details, I felt it was extremly realistic. The authenticity of the firefighting details was awesome for a movie, and the special effects were too. A million thumbs up to Ladder 49! I will be going to see it again in the theatres, and also purchasing it on DVD when it comes out. I'd also love to see a companion movie, Engine 33. GREAT movie!!

  19. Haven't heard much about this. The regular FDIC shw in April in Indy is supposed to be awesome. Hope this pans out and we see some nice classes offered here.
  20. Bump. Anyone planning on going???
  21. I've ridden in a few large ambulances that the ride is great. The ones I did ride in had all special suspension systems, and upgraded chasis. However, those buses seem to be more the exception. And in many areas of the country, they swear by these types of ambulances, and they work great. The ride in many of the larger ambulances on medium duty chasis ambulances is absolutely horrible....embarrasing even. I don't know how anybody can justify tranporting a hip or skeletal injury pateint in one of these things, it can be brutal. The ride even scares some people. Drive-wise, and other functionality, these ambulances are great. They have more power, better turning radiuses, more storage space, more work space, bigger altenator for electrical equipment, etc......
  22. First off, the new graphic design is HOT!!! I really like it! The lightbar, I forget what make/model it is.....its "Star" something for the manufacturer. As for the blue light issue, whats the big deal if the cops have it? In my opinion, it only benefits volunteers.....the public will reconize/identify it with a PD light and be more likely to pull over. As for the "we want people to reconize us as volunteers" goes, do you think motorists in the WC even care anymore nowadays. In addition, I would like for the WCPD officers, many of which are my friends, to have that added visibilty that comes with a red/blue combination....especially while operating on the poorly designed and maintained roadway deathtraps they call the Saw Mill, Hutch, Cross County etc. Anything that would make it safers for these guys I'm all for. Again, my opinion, there are lots of laws in this business that aren't enforced......this is not one people shoul be worried about. After all, if we're gonna follow the state laws to the letter, then technically we need CDL's when operating fire apparatus for a non emergency function, such as returning from a call. And how many volunteers actually follow the blue light lawas it reads? Personally, with all the traffic and liability issues, I'm not even too big a believer in the whole blue light system as it currently stands.
