  1. I'm annoyed by just about everything they do.
  2. Can you carry the "Raine" line of belt pouches, that are geared towards the EMS professional? They make some great and innovative stuff for holding equipment on your belt, unfrontunetly, nobody carries a good selection around here or online. Also, uniform accesories would be nice, especially cold weather gear, lol.
  3. http://www.tenethealth.com Tenet is basically a hospital corportation. They own a bunch of actue care hospitals across the country. They own one in the Worcester, MA (Operating as Worcester Medical Center AKA Med City AKA St Vincents). They bought St Vincents after they shut down. I'm familiar with the one in Worcester because I used to work at UMass, another (seperate) hospital in that city. Med City,It's just like any other hospital. One of Tenet's strategy's is to purchase a hospital post-closure, therefore they can get their hands on the facilities and sometimes employees and not have to assume any of the debt. Unfortunetly, I think it would be a stretch for Tenet to buy United because of the lousy demographics. The only other place I could remotely see buying United would be, big laugh here, the Archdiocese...but Ifigure they would buy St Agnes first if anything.
  4. Unfortunetly, United Hospital is closing. I cannot see anyone wanting any remote affiliation with the name, or wanting to assume the debt or aging, outdated facilities, or large amount of clientel with the inability to pay. If anybody wanted United, the deal would have been struck long ago. Greenwich/Yale Health System will not have anything to do with United, and part of that is due to United being in NYS, and Greenwich being in CT. Both are run under two completly seperate set of rules and state laws, and it would probaly be not advantageous for Greenwich to try and work against that. New York Hospital (Columbia/Cornell) obviously laid low and didnt want much to do with it. White Plains Hosp/Stellaris doesnt have the capital to buy it or handle the debt load, nor does Sound Shore. The only company that I would think MAY want it would be Tenet Healthcare, but this may even be a stretch for them. Westchester's population is growing, yet the amount of hospital beds declining, yet hospital admissions are growing. Another problem with the WC hospitals is our proximity to NYC. Many of the yuppies who are invading and ruining what was once a very nice county have lived in Manhattan for years and choose to seek medical care there, and when they need hospitilization, they seek it there. I feel bad for all the patients that grew to trust United Hospital and their staff, mainly the elderly who have gone to United for years. I'm also quite suprised that the Port Chester community didn't rally against this. But then again, much of PC's residents are not citizens.. I don't think PC is what it used to be either. I wonder how these new Port Chester resident will be accessing healthcare now? Whatever happened to charity?????
  5. I'd just like to take this oppurtunity to wish all my fellow board members a Merry Christmas!! I can't believe its here already!
  6. Just curious if anyone uses Fire/Rescue or EMS software for their PDA, what is the program(s), how do you like it, and what/when do you use it for? Is it for Palm OS or Windows Mobile OS? I just downloaded eMedic, and it's pretty cool
  7. I am curious....does anyone in the area actually do a decent job of decorating the firehouse for Christmas? Most of the ones I am used to seeing just have some lights slapped up seemingly without any thought......Maybe I am missing something...anybody do a decent, cool, or unique thing while decorating for X-Mas at their firehouse or EMS station?
  8. I'm just curious to see everybody's favorite dining establisments in Westchester, and see if I can find a few new ones. Some of my favorites include: Breakfast: Homefield Deli, Yonkers Fountain Diner-Hartsdale Lunch Walters-Mamaroneck- Best Hot Dog Stand in Westchester Rocky's Deli-Millwood- Great Hot and Cold Deli fare. Dinner: Fountain Diner-Hartsdale Maneros-Greenwich Hmmmm....still thinking of more Chains Outback Steakhouse-White Plains-Great Steaks Cheesecake Factory, White Plains-Great Food And Desert Red Lobster/Olive Garden Pizza/Italian Ardsley Pizza, Center St. I'm probaly forgetting a few, but those are a couple, for now, lol! What's yours? I know I am missing out on tons of unknown-to-me places, so let me know whats good in your neck of the woods!!
  9. I don't like the Putnam,Dutchess and Rockland numbering. I'm a fan of the Maryland and California style Station based numbering. For example: Station 33 Engine 33, Engine 331, Engine 332 Truck 33 Rescue 33 Mini-Attack 33 Ambulance 33 etc, etc. Couldn't get any simpler then that, and the only real thing to remember is what number is each station.
  10. tbendick or Truck 4, could you recommend a good, inexpensive, easy to use hotshoe flash that would help in obtaining a photo like the above and fire related stuff at night. Preferably one that's compatible the the Canon D-Reb. Also, which is better, a flash on your camera, or one that you can hold in your hand?
  11. Well, I had an awesome Christmas. I hope everyone else did as well. Got to spend time with my friends and co-workers while at work from 7-3, then came home to some awesome presents, got to give some awesome presents, and ate an awesome dinner. I'm sad that Christmas is again another year away. This one came so fast, and went even faster.
  12. I'll believe the new firehouse is being started when I see it for myself......they've been saying "in the Spring" since 1996. Hopefully the department won't comprimise what they want and need to the villages ignorant trustees demands for the cheapest possible firehouse. No, I don't mean inexpensive, I mean they want it cheap and as no-frills as possible....if they had it their way, it would be one of those pre-fab metal structures thats jusst a garage, maybe even a canvas tent. I'll be sure to get tons of photos of the demolition and construction though, as it will be quite a historic time for the village, plus it's going to be interesting to see the innards of the old Firehouse.
  13. The trains are quite nice and as stated above, definetly needed. I gotta figure out what times they run because I wanna ride on one. BTW, an awesome safety reminder from mstrang.
  14. What an AWESOME Christmas suprise and treat for everyone! Martin has such a huge heart, as do many of the FF/EMS proffesionals in this county, and we all should have suspected he would help in pulling something like this!
  15. I like the new Squad 22. I think it's hot, but 2 more improvments would have made it hotter....a Code 3 MX7000 Strobe/LED lightbar, and painted roll up doors to match the color of the truck.
  16. Got this email passed along to me from a friend, who has arranged donations for this department. I found it pretty interesting, and thought I would share it with you guys.
  17. Good to hear that you are back. I hope your family, even though you guys are spread out on both coasts, has a wonderful holiday! AFD65, I talked with JA3KFD last night, more details about purchasing of the bracelets should be available next week. As far as the parade goes, I definetly think that is something that could be accomplished. I'm sure several people could send a chiefs car or apparatus.
  18. I swear, I've never seen it rain this heavy this often in my life. If this keeps up, we're all gonna drown. Well, at least its not snow.
  19. To make an update to one of my favorite threads of this board... I have to add Tony's in Hastings, and Horsefeathers in Tarrytown to the list. Both have EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT food! Tonys is a Portugese resturant, but has mainly American fare thats really good. Same with Horsefeathers, they have great burgers and an excellent brunch!! In addition to the above,I ate at City Limits Diner for the first time last week, and it was great!! I had the Crab/Lobster cakes benedict, and it was AWESOME!! mmmmmm.... Also, the new Pizza place/Italian Resturant near WEMS HQ's, 444 E. Main St. (Route 117)in Mount Kisco opposite Freindlys has some really good and different slices. I forget the name, Gerardos I think it is. This, IMO, is one of only three good pizza shops in the Mount Kisco region. Otherwise, the other pizza places in the MK region suck. Service is great too at Gerardos. Also had some take out Italian food from Venetian Delight on S. Central Ave. in Hartsdale, and that place has both kick ass/excellent food and service. My first time patronizing them, definelty not my last. (I've grown tired of the Italian food in the Ardsley area, and this place is just as close to my house) I wish Westchester would have more normal type of resturants though. It seems a lot are fading away and becoming more "Manhattan" to suit the Yuppies who have invaded this county. We have many new people on this board, I'd like to hear from them what their suggestions are....
  20. Jeesh, the rain today is really coming down!!! I never want, or think we will need to, hear the words "drought" again..... Well at least its not snow. Although a White Christmas would be nice....
  21. In my buffiest opinion, I don't think "the term "Squad" is the most appropriate designator for these type of units. They should be called "Haz-Mat Support Units" or something of the like. I feel a "Squad" should be a Rescue-Pumper, with standards for equipment similar to FDNY and other Rescue Engine companies.
