OK, anybody know of or hear any rumors about anyone getting anything new in 2005 in WC????

According to this week's Enterprise (our local area weekly), Greenburgh PD, along with Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Irvington, Elmsford, and Tarrytown PD's are consideing centralizing their dispatch centers into one. Currently, all PD's have one officer to man the desk and dispatch 24x7. Some of these departments have only two or three cars on the road at most. Quoted from the Enterprise article, this quote is from Dobbs Ferry PD Chief George Longworth "With seven different dispatches, it leads to confusion and people stepping on each other in responding to the same situation or not communicating to each other about other situations". The Village PD's often work closely together and share much of the same information. Among the benefits of this centralization agreement mentioned in the article, it would free officers from desk duty on the overnights, to be used elswhere such as on the busier 4-12 shift, or save the Villages money by not having to man the desk. The agreement would also include a shift in sectors, to allow more "dual-response" type plans as well. As it stands now, calls will be recieved, processed, and dispatched by GPD Communications, located at GPD Headquarters on Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh. The town would also probaly hire more civilian dispatchers for the GPD Communications. The communications would be done on GPD's current digital equipment, and through grant money, all Village PD cars and officers would be outfitted with GPD Communications equipment, that would also be maintained by the Town Of Greenburgh Radio shops. The Town of Greenburgh already works with the Village PD's to provide such centralized services such as a Advanced Life Support, SWAT team, Drug and Alcohol Task Force, and Animal Control. The Initiative was spearheaded by Chief George Longworth of the DFPD. "Intergrated Communications will make for better coordinated multi-agency response to everyday operations as well as emergency situations" Now for my opinion. This plan has to be approved by the town and village boards, which may cause this plan to stumble. This is an awesome idea that is long overdue. I'm excited by this, because it's ridiculous for each small dept. to have their own dispatch. What I am curious about, is who will dispatch the Fire Departments and VAC's that are currently dispatched by these PD's??? I hope this doesn't bump the plan, and I hope these departments use this oppurtunity to go to 60 Control. This plan will also allow the 7* medics to be better dispersed. The other rumor floating around town is of a townwide ESU.

This was a horrible incident, but I wanna clear up two things: #1. It appears to me this was an Ambulette (Wheelchair Van). As per the photos, and if she was an "AD", where was her partner? #2. EMT OR PARAMEDIC! NOT AMBULANCE DRIVER!!! JEESH, Can't these story typers get it right, lol!
-
Wow on the number! Every member of this board rocks, I've learned so much from each and every one of the 15,000 posts. I predict early next week, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. Looking foward to the next 15,000!
-
So then a green light could not be used in NYS to indicate an Incident Command Post, as per ICS???? Or does this just apply to V&T law?
-
Thanks for the update, code3rnd. What a crazy and tragic incident, and all because of one nut job. LA sees some really crazy stuff. However, they seem to deal with these incidents quite well and seem very, very organzied each and every time.

Here is a photo of the Jimmy Boy Bracelet. I hopefully will have more posted on EMTBravo.com when I return Friday.

I've never really heard a solid answer on this question. What is the proper length of time to hang bunting for??? And is there any other protocol for hanging it?

Nah. Hook that bad boy up to a small portable air tank. Reminds me of an episode of "Pimp My Ride" "Oh, good morning Garrett" HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK "Hi there Ray." BrWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwwap! "Al, my man!" BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSST  =D> ROTFLMAO! Ya wanna do it? We're working opposite each other tonight! I'll bring the air tank!

Check out Greenwich, CT's new E-One Monster rescue: http://www.nefirenews.org/ne/GreenwichCTSO1.jpg Photo from www.firenews.org, and photo by Ron Arnow First Cos Cob, now this. This one is hot too. Except for the PowerArc lights, I wonder why GFD is so in love with these department-wide. Does anybody know what the staffing will be for this unit?
-
The truck was manufactured by E-One. It appears to be on an "FDNY Style" Cyclone II chasis. The lights AFD65 is referring to are called "brow lights". They are halogen/quartz perimiter scene lighting and I think thats an excellent idea. The lights I was reffering to are the PowerArc, or the brand of warning lights they use. The lightbar and grill light rotators are powerarc. I'm just suprised GFD doesnt go with Whelen or storbe or LED.

Now there's an idea......a German car with a German siren!! LOL. Actually, I should mount it on my 45-M-1 truck...now that would be interesting. Except WAS967 would probaly have too much fun with it.

I'm just curious how departments and firefighter and EMS personel are dealing with the extreme cold and snow???? Has the county or your department made available a readied and warm Bee-Line bus or other type vehicle 24/7 to respond to working fires for rehab/rewarming? How arre hydrants thawed? Do you carry buckets of sand/salt?? Dress in extra gear?

Watching Channel 5 News at 10 infuriated me tonight. What was the top story?? The weather. The airport delays. And this isn't the only station, all the TV stations websites, the weather and Johhny Carson's passing come before the firefighters, which is mainly just small blurbs. Kinda shows how important FDNY is those ratings-hungry newscast directors and producers. Absolutely disgusts me. Should have been the top story, with team coverage. I guess firefighters aren't really important to the general public anymore, and the "fad" is over. How selfish! We'll see what Ch 2, 4, and 7 will do at 11p for their newscasts, and which ones are the truly caring human beings.
-
Thumbs up to Channel 4 for making it top story, and doing it with some class. Anybody catch what Ch 2 or 7 did? It'll be interesting to see what the papers do in the AM.
-
I like Johhny Carson, and the weather definetly is important and interesting story to me, but these 7 guys died and were severly injured serving the citizens of New York City. A storyof this magnitude should always come first. More time is alloted for a drug dealer who got shot in a deal gone bad, and other BS stories. As I said, I'm going to wait to see what 2,4,and 7 do. I do enjoy Ch 5 news, but they will do ANYTHING for ratings, and there news is like a fast-paced consensed version. So, I'll wait for the more respectable stations. Anyone see what Ch 9 or 11 did @ 10???

Over a foot in my driveway in Hartsdale/Ardsley....and when I left Lincolndale Firehouse in Somers, it was approx the same. Way too much in my opinion, lol!
-
OK. As said by another member of this board, I am not a buff, I am an enthusiast.

Sorry to make another thread about this, but this photo and plane is so awesome it deserves its own thread: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/761932/L/ From the AWESOME website, www.airliners.net

Check out this month's (Jan 2005) issue of Fire Engineering. On Page 67 is an article by Yonkers Fire Capt. Doug Leihbacher (Head of YFD's probie school/NYS FI) regarding operating safely on peaked roofs. Not only is it an well written article full of information and points to know, but it contains photos of Yonkers Firefighers as well as the WCFTC's Roof simulator.

Got the camera helmet, now just gotta affix it to 2441's head (shouldn't be a problem, the valium comes in dart form, lol) and mount the reciever in Lincolndale. J/K... Have a great trip home JA3KFD and family!!!
-
OOO...OOO, I have an idea for a series!! I'm going to pitch this to Fox.......ALSFF and RES20CUE put Paris through FF1 and get her certified, and then for season 2, she becomes a Paramedic with WAS967 and mikerabbit as teachers!!!!
-
Can't wait to see you guys....the weather will be a typical Northeast welcome....I'm glad you guys are coming home and your white gold will be coming down.......I will be trapped behind the console, but I'm working on getting 2441 a camera helmet to mount to his head so I can watch the whole event live. If anybody goes, be sure to bring your digital camera and submit photos to EMTBravo if you can!!
