I'd really love to know the name of the dept. I'd think New Haven too, but I think Excelsior only represents Fairfield County, CT....could be wrong though...maybe New Haven County too. Norwalk has white trucks, but they are not getting anything new and are a loyal Spartan fan. I can't recall any other white departments in Fairfield County, unless a department is trying something new. I hope I can get some photos of this rig!!

How right you are George!! I LOVE LA! It's awesome! Beautiful weather and landscape, beautiful girls, beach, combined with a modern, progressive FD that sees a diverse and large amount of incidents, and responds to those in beautiful, shiny, solid red and well thought out apparatus, you have a paradise for me!!! LA City FD is amazing...they are so organzied, progressive, and effiecient. They have such a wide and diverse variety of incidents to handle, and some wicked natural disasters. Code 3 Day, sponsored by Code 3 Collectibles, is a great introduction to SoCal Fire Apparatus. I hope to attend this year, and can't wait for it to be announced so I can buy my tickets and fly JetBlue into it's newest SoCal Desitnation, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA (Burbank is the new Hollywood)...and hopefully, I'll be able to make one additional trip out there this year before then....maybe even be able to find a job!! www.lafd.blogspot.com

Another aspect to this issue is that why do some agencies drive the flycar Code 3 to the hospital, and some even tailgate the bus doing it? That has to be one of the most ridiculous, unsafe, negligent acts ever. Many times, the person driving isn't even trained to drive Code 3!! Also, what is the purpose of leaving the lights flashing in the ER bay??? IMO, It's much harder to assess and work on a patient going Code 3, and it puts everybody in that bus at a much greater risk. There are departments in the WC that transport EDP's Code 3, and I mean a fast and furious Code 3...what is the point???? BTW, even with a routine (if there is really such a thing) code going on in the back, if it's being worked ALS by a competent provider, chances are there's not much more the ED can do anyways.

When trained and equpped first responders are on the scene, then the situation is or should be under control, period. This isn't a fire here. There is absolutely NO justification for an BLS ambulance to expedite the medic...use your BLS skills, training, and common sense!! Proper, rapid, and efficient BLS will save lives. Patient not breathing? BVM Trauma? GO! Bleeding? Direct Pressure! MI? O2, Stretcher, move! It's SIMPLE! Remember, BLS is a neccesity, ALS is just a luxury (a much needed important one though)......that's just a way a good EMS provider should think within reason.......the medic is part of your team. It is such a ridiculous phrase, as is asking for an ETA. The two main reasons why I think it is said.....worried, untrained mostly urban cops who aren't trained or equipped as to what to do (When was the last time you heard an ESU cop request a rush on the bus? Never!) and the second reason is because it sounds cool and buffy to say.

Looking for a date on that Mount Kisco fire in the mid-90's, where the bookstore and a large portion of other buildings on the bloxk burned. Anybody have the exact date? Also, the exact addy?

Reading through the latest edition of the Pennysaver today, I came across this very vague ad in the Reader Ad classified section: Doesn't say anything else....I wonder what this is about, and why the ad is where it is and why it is so vague? Anybody know anything?

Just ordered my ticket as well, Orchestra Row H? Never been to TMH, is that a good seat? He's also got a show in Manhattan the night before, and a show at the Borgota in AC on May 29th.....I hear the Borgota is an awesome place, that might make for a fun trip.

Interestingly enough, it's the same type cab as Croton Fire-Rescue Tanker 10. But look at the difference in damage. More/bigger photos here: http://www.tfdfire.com/ Scroll down and click on the link. And commercial fire truck cabs shouldnt smoosh that way!!!!

Here's the photo: My question is....how do they miss something like this? I assume that normal people would stop making the batch!!! Did the guy even notice he chopped his finger off? I suspect this may be a false story...maybe a smear campaign by Mc'ds or BK.

I too had a great time at Ham night while I was there. Always great to see my friends from BHFD and surrounding departments.

Great article. I think I'm going to try one. Just a question....there's a ton of different filter brands out there.....which is a good or reputable filter brand?

Some pretty interesting news coming out of Greenburgh Town Supervisors Feiner's latest email regarding this years Capital Budget. So, I guess we will be seeing a new 75, and the current one will go to the PD Patrol division. I just hope that they keep the current 71!!! That still is the hottest truck in the fleet. Also, the ambulance is sorely needed. However, I wish they would buy some new marked patrol cars, and maybe a marked slicktop or two. No real interesting DPW deliveries this year, except for a new line painting truck.

The particular or speficic incident really doesnt matter, so people in this discussion need to stop being so defensive over that one issue....I think its the whole issue at hand thats being discussed. In risk of sounding like a prude here, I'm going to state my opinion on this subject. I've often discussed this issue with several other firefighters I know who feel very similar. Back in the early days of firefighting, the fire department was often a social center in the community. Today, firefighting is a profession. The social club portion should have been clearly seperated from the Suppresion,Rescue, and Education/Prevention division long ago. Although it can be accepted that firefighters are regular people, and drink like everybody else, is that really the case? I think that when wearing a uniform, we represent our department and everything that stands behind it. When people get drunk, it is normal for them to act out in whatever way they do, and often it is inappropriate while in uniform. It's acceptable to wear a uniform and drink socially and with signifcant restraint at a department sponsored function such as a dinner , funeral, and similar type events.....but to go out drinking after a parade or other public event should really evoke some serious thought on how the department is being represented. Put yourself on the other side of the picture....Imagine you are in a bar, as a civilain, and in comes a police officer and several other police officers, all very loud and drinking? What kind of image would they present to you? Would you recall this image every time you saw a cop? What would you think if you needed a cop at that very moment? Just some food for thought. To add to the above, I've heard a comment to the likes of "Well, everyone else was doing it" or "Everybody else was FF's" on this thread...two questions, does that make it right, and is it still not a public place, where people pass by? As far as chiefs cars outside of bars, thats just plain wrong. If you're going out to socialize for the evening, take your own car. And as far as alchohol in firehouse, that's just totally unacceptable and a disaster in the making. But that's a whole nother subject. Will these issues change? I think so. Either when we see a chief that is not afraid of the old-timer and social member backlash, or when a department gets bad press when, and I emphasize WHEN, somethig happens because a member is intoxicated in a uniform, a uniform that implie we are on duty.

Well, it looks like the old Fairview Ladder 1 (1980 Pierce/LT-1998 Refurb) is going to Brookfield.  Passing by Fairview Station 2 today (Worthington Road @ Dobbs Ferry Road/100B), where Ladder 1 has been sitting outside for several months awaiting a buyer, seems to have been trashed. It's Fairview logos have been spray painted over black(in a very sloppy way), numerous items have been seemingly brutally stripped off, and a tarp is wrapped across the middle of the ladder, covering the ladderboards. I can only assume it is going to be disposed of. First the Telesquirt, now this.  grrrrr What a sad end for such a great ladder. To bad it couldn't be donated somewhere or turned into a special service vehicle.

Most important part (and not used at all in this county) is the whole Priority Dispatch part. Priority Dispatch is used to determine level of response, such as ALS, BLS, PD, FD etc, and the mode of response (Code 1,2,3) This would help, so you're not sending a medic unit on an ankle injury, etc...but sending them to a chest pain or syncope.......or not sending a unit code 3 to a minor injury or incident.

I will pay $2.10 .....but do you have the sanity in stock, or is it still on backorder? BTW, can't wait to see the reality series!
