  1. Just wondering if anyone knows anything more about this, or is planning on entering their department????
  2. Looking good! Can't wait to see the finished product(s)! Hope you will send in some pics!
  3. I'd think more simply with this event. Sometimes, bells/whistles and all the extras isn't what matters. It's your being there and showing support that matters the most. I think the majority of the people receptive to this idea would like to get this done. Hopefully, I will have some further details later.....
  4. Thanks for the info! At the DPW Garage, is that going to be a manned or unmanned temporary station??
  5. Jim, Gina, Jimmy, and family.....you know we are all here with you. We know how tough and discouraging this is, but we all stand together in our support and love for you guys. Let any of us know if you need anything at all.....
  6. I'm looking to get into Kayaking. I've never been, but have always wanted to. I hope to rent one and try one out on the ocean in Florida next week. I'm also hoping to take a trip to a Kayak store either in CT or NJ for research. As far as I know, there are no good Kakak stores in the WC? Or a Kayak club? Just looking to see if anybody on the board is into it, or has any advice for a newb, like what to do, where to go, etc.
  7. Great photos on HFD's website, especially the vintage ones!! I miss seeing the old 171 and L-46!
  8. Special sneak preview next Tuesday at 10PM (repeating at 1AM and the following weekend) on the Discovery Channel. Should be premeiring as a regular series soon. The show sounds awesome and is about one of my favorite FD's! I can't wait to see it! Heard it may be a little drama-laden, though.
  9. GREAT NEWS! I love Emergency, I've been waiting forever for this since Cablevision didnt carry TV Land when they showed it, and to have the complete first season on DVD is going to be AWESOME!!!I have a few of the JEMS episode tapes of the show, and I'm hooking and want more!! Each of those tapes was like 30 bucks too. I'm sure subseqent seasons will be released as well as time progresses. Do all the younger members know what Emergency is/was??? From TVShowsOnDVD.com
  10. Pre-Ordered Emergency! And Adam 12 1st season DVD's on Amazon today!!! :-)
  11. Recently, I purchased my second Cyberhome brand DVD player from Target for my home (I have a Sony on my main TV, but now with the 2 Cyberhomes all my TV's have DVD players and 2 have Tivos). We also have this player at 45-M-3's station, and are hoping to purchase one for 45-M-1/40-A-2's station. This DVD player is compact in size, has a large amount of features, and seems to be of good quality. The best part is, it's only $38.99! Comes with the player, remote w/ batteries, and A/V cables. Just a heads up for a great bargain for your home, firehouse day room, or EMS station!
  12. Just found out some additional info in additon to the above, the chasis will be a Pierce Dash and the whole rig is going to be HOT!
  13. The Ranch Pizza at Gerardo's is really good too, albeit a little messy. It's pizza crust, topped with Mozzerella, tomatoes, bacon, and ranch dressing. I like a good slice of Buffalo chicken pizza too. Ardsley Pizza (Center St.) has a decent slice, but still have yet to find a really good slice of this. I once had a slice of Philly Cheesteak pizza at some place in New Rochelle. It was pizza crust, topped with tomato sauce, sliced steak, and cheddar cheee....it was really good too. Have yet to find this anywhere else exept Minas, which I do not like. Hawaiian Pizza in Hawaii?? Isn't that like French Fries in France? Hawaiian Pizza is pretty good too though. And despite all this, I really appreciate a decent slice of true plain cheese pizza.
  14. Don't you find EMS overpriced, lack of selection and not knowledgeable though? They were so much better when they used to be in Ardsley...now they seem to just want to cater to the Yuppies. I may take a trip to Campmor, Ramsey Outdoor or Dicks Sporting Goods...all seem to have great Kayak depts. Also, there is this great store in CT that is Kayak specific that allows you to "test drive" in a nearby lake as well...just picked up a magazine with tons of tri-state possibilities.
  15. This seems like an awesome oppurtunity...thanks for the head up.....I'd love to go, but I can't find any info about it on their site...seems like it is at Derektor Shipyard in B-Port most of the month.
  16. I can back Dave up! His cooking definetly was much better then "Very Good"!! I miss the meals myself, Dave (The Official Chef) (636) Hap (602) Vicki (628) and Bobby (625) used to share together! We ate great, even late!!! Also, remember 642's late night (or way early AM) dessert runs to White Castle when he was just a wee lad on our group?? And Ricky and several others cooked real well too! I wish we had kitchen at M-1's station. I like the cook off idea. Me and Skoot were actually talking about it Saturday night.
  17. Anybody familiar with automotive matters, what would cause a wheel to just come off? Is this something that just occurs sometimes like a flat tire, or is there something that would directly cause it?
  18. That is the sign of the times- Some Fire apparatus just doesn't get out for the calls anymore, and if no one shows up, What is the commuity to do. They will have to pay for the Fire service. If you were to listern to Westchester County Fire Depts. there are many times some Depts, just don't get apparatus out on a response, and they tone out over and over for a response. pbvpm, You must remember that if FD's are to pay, they must do it properly. Responding with insuffcient manpower just to get an apparatus out the door is still a very large safety issue. Just because an apparatus gets out the door does not mean it is all good. There are issues on boths sides of the equation, but we must figure out how to get the proper, trained staffing there quickly no matter what the situation is and put egos aside. But I divert. That's not what this thread is about.
  19. Thanks for the update!! :-) Any word on if/when the Rescue will be upgraded to a Pierce Arrow XT heavy rescue, lol????
  20. My photos have been submitted, 80 are now posted. Thanks to 2371 for his hospitality. I had a good time, however the weather made shooting really difficult. Pleasantville and Montrose are both cursed for rain, combing the parades on the same day guarenteed it, lol! Just a question though, did Bedford Village win for the Engine or the Source Pumper????
  21. Recently, I found out that the Westchester Parade Judges Association has me in target, lol. I'd just like to say I have nothing against them, and respect what they do and the decisions they make. I stand by the fact I think TL-57 looked GREAT, and it should have won. Just like a referee/umpire or Olympic Judges, or other public judging associations there are going to be people who don't agree with or like the decisions made!! Since they are a public orgiinization, that is part of the deal with making judements. I do respect their decision of E-199, it looked great as well. But that's a whole different story. This post has nothing to do with them, and is just my opinion regarding parades in general, NOT them. I AM NOT forming a parade judging association to compete with them by any means, but I am going to judge a couple of parades using my standards for FUN and unofficially, and post the results on the site. (See This Thread:The EMTBravo.com Parade Judges Association Despite what I have been told by someone, I'm pretty sure I am allowed to do this! Anyways, I'm pretty sure that this is the year 2005. I think that judging Parades by shiny trucks, how many guys in march and in step, etc etc is antiquated and really serves no purpose for enhancing our main goal, serving the public. Apparatus should be judged on other things such as layout, maintainence, tools carried, innovative hose pack, progressiveness and innovations, NFPA compiance and safety features, pride taken in the apparatus, etc etc. Manpower should be judged on certifications/classes, turnout gear, physical fitness, etc We should be proud of winning trophys at parades for firematic reasons, not because we can detail a truck and march in step. Everybody likes a shiny firetruck, and many people enjoy the competion of who can do it the best. But we are here to serve the public. Why can't we be more competive and more focused when it comes to that? Why can't we be more proud of our ability to be better firematically at a parade then at a traditional parade? Who knows what great ideas that a "new style" parade could breed, and where it could lead us... Just my 0.02 cents. What's yours?
